Etymology

Derived from the English mole and Greek sophia ('knowledge') A moles means a permanent
small dark spot on the human body as defined in the English dictionary. Moles are found on
many parts of the body and can be of honey colour, red, black and sometimes wheatish and pale
in colour.
History
Despite a cultural predeliction for physiognomy, which developed in a considerable literature,
mole divination was not a major feature of Greco-Roman culture, and references to the practice
are rare. Birthmarks enjoyed a somewhat higher status, and are mentioned. Seleucus, the first
Macedonian king of Syria, was said to have received from Apollo an anchor-shaped birthmark
on his thigh, which was also borne by his descendants.
A short Greek manual of mole interpretation survives from antiquity, appended to the end of a
much longer work on divination by twitches ascribed to the legendary Greek seer Melampus.
Although the treatise on moles lacks an author, and differs in style from the work on twitches, it
is customarily also referred to as by pseudo-Melampus. The text is titled Peri Elaion tou Somatos
"On the Olives of the Body," the term presumably being applied to moles because of their
similarity in shape and color. There are indications, however, that the text also covers
birthmarks, as "fiery" red "olives" are mentioned.
In general, the work relies on fairly straightforward analogical reasoning. A mark on the back of
the throat portends beheading. One on the lips portends overeating. A mark on the nosewhich
the Greeks like many other cultures associated with the privatesportends the recipient will be
"insatiate in lovemaking." Some distinctions are made between men and women, left and right.
A later Turkish translation of the Ps-Melampus text, ascribed to "Leo the Wise," was translated
into French by J ean Nicolaides (Les Livres de Divination Traduits sur un Manuscrit Turc Indit,
1889).

The moles on different body parts indicates the Zodiac sign by which the person is being
dominated. Moles are found by birth. But it is observed the moles appear also during one's life
time. They disappear, change their size or colour which indicate change of fortune. A raised

The significance of moles differs between males and females. Generally, the moles are
considered to give auspicious results in males if they are found on the right side and for females
on the left side.

2. Less than twelve moles on the body are beneficial.

If and individual has moles close together, he will have two serious love affairs or may be
married twice.
When two moles exactly balance each other, such as moles on both knees, both cheeks etc. they

It may be true that all spots on the body need not be moles and may not be necessary to expect

Colour of Moles
There are six types of moles based on their colours.

Honey or brown moles are very auspicious.
Emerald green coloured moles are auspicious.
Red-coloured moles are very auspicious.
Light brown moles are auspicious but of negligible extent.

Significance of Twin Moles
When there are twin moles irrespective of their location,the person possesses a dual nature. The
presence of two moles, side by side, is indicative of a person being in love with two people.

Significance of location of Moles
According to this method, a mole on the left shoulder indicates a person of quarrelsome nature;
one on the left thigh indicates a life of sorrows, while one on the right thigh denotes a life filled
with good fortune. A mole between the wrist and elbow indicates a person with a happy and
peaceful disposition.
Head
As a general rule, moles in the area of head indicate an ambitious man of high desires and pride.
He has a taste in art and poetry, is critical and of inquisite nature. Interested in politics, or social
affairs. To obtain fame, such persons spend lavishly at the expense of family responsibility. A
mole on the right side of the scalp indicates that the person will become famous, God-fearing,

On a woman's face, a mole in the lower half is auspicious. If it is honey colored it indicates a
hospitable nature; a red mole denotes a tyrannical, irritable disposition. A black mole means an

brow (honey) colored mole indicates sorrows due to deception by evil men or even molestation

Nose

A mole on the right side of the left eye of a man indicates a spendthrift and a man with many

Waist
As a general rule, a male or a woman having moles on waist, stomach and buttocks are kind-
hearted, of critical nature, who stand for truth and honesty. He appears cool-minded but is short-
tempered. He lacks self-confidence, never allows others to interfere in his private matters. He
enjoys premarital sex relations. In childhood, health is afflicted. After 30 years of age, he enjoys
life very much. Also fond of loneliness. In case of a woman, a mole on the waist indicates a good
