The SavAgE TruTH

of RAvaged YoUth
h a r l e q u i n

A scrawny selection of rotten ramblings from the whimsical head of the harlequin Enjoy at own risk.

h@rLeQu!n It Really is Bad
Cape Town, 2000

You delight in the pain of never just one
Your pickings dispensed with, mere tokens of fun
Consequence only remembered at dawn
The line was crossed before it was drawn

h@rLeQu!n Ping
Cape Town, 2000

Just in time for a holiday fling
With one arm tied in a canvas sling
You might not have had to wear that thing
But you had to punch me in the jaw last spring

Doesn't exactly make you want to sing
Now does it?

h@rLeQu!n - A Study
Cape Town, 2001

I had an awful injury to the temple yesterday
Some bastard threatened to hit me with his golf club
I wasn't about to move though
Tenacity usually worked for me, but he broke my face
I am now very angry with my golf instructor
"Whatever the situation," he said
"Keep your eye on the ball"

h@rLeQu!n - Seeking Completeness
Cape Town, 2000

The pie in my sky is long overdue
To fall nonchalant in a pit of swine
A chaotic myriad of lessening buzz
Heaven compared is like old vile brine

Why is the one you need furthest?
Why is the one you need always best?
Perhaps, you think: "Why need?"
Perhaps not (ever again...)

Who knows, I say, but silently so true
The grass indeed far greener on the other side
Depression stemmed in dilemma is enough!
Overheard whispered: "May as well go hide"

h@rLeQu!n Beginnings
Cape Town, 2001

The Beginning
Intellectual Mediocrity
Inefficient Education
Cerebral Undercompetence
Ignorant Arrogance
Irresponsible Convention
Superficial Degradation
Catastrophic Normality
Supernatural Presence
Unavoidable Intervention
Flawless Performance
Captivating Humility
Replenished Necessities
Unobtrusive Excellence
Inconceivable Restoration
The Beginning

h@rLeQu!n - Just Before I Ate
Cape Town, 2002

One day in my past
Three hundred and sixty of breathtaking beauty
We walked in her shadow
With a wine so precious and
All was stillness

But the calamity of calm and
The sin of serenity was our downfall
To return, a distant wish
For she never said a thing
That really meant a thing

The best was apparent and yet
Never left for last, it left for lost
Now I can only dream
Of my recent infinity
In charm and disarm

h@rLeQu!n What What?
Boca Raton, 2003

Am I missing something?
What happened to forever after?
Is before anything to go by?
I think I'll panic briefly and
That is about it for now

h@rLeQu!n - Drugs for Example
Cape Town, 2003

Exhausted plastic and eliminated hopes are yearned returned
Plastic and loneliness: a perfect match and hope makes mope
Amaterialism can save a heartless mind, never mind my heart
A mild mind may mend a hard heart or you can just quit dope

h@rLeQu!n Inspire
Boca Raton, 2002

Days are long
Nights are cold and
Life is a timebomb of twists

But I always found
I could cope much more
With your hands held warm in my fists

h@rLeQu!n Piece of Mind
Boca Raton, 2003

If I was older I still wouldnt learn
Its getting ridiculous, tough to discern
My thoughts provoke mischief and I fear, despite
My actions speak volumes and I know Im right

Still if I was smarter or sharper by looks
My first idea would be back to the books
Yet stubborn as hell and angry as such
I need someone else who needs me as much

h@rLeQu!n Kill Him
Cape Town, 2003

If I could find a quicker way
To rid the threat, I always say
I wouldn't waste another day
Like John's head on a silver tray

h@rLeQu!n Domestic Homicide
Cape Town, 2003

Brutality is the splice of life
Certain rampant thundrous strife
The logic present grabs the knife
And liberates the sweetest wife

h@rLeQu!n Rape?
Cape Town, 2003

Passant guardant lion sentry
Holds the veil oer crime in entry

h@rLeQu!n Essay #1 (Punk)
Cape Town, 2003

Punk is a socio-anthropological representation of non-conformity in a vaguely paradoxical and non-political, almost estranged community theme where
there exists a crude, continually accelerative relationship between succinctly drawing lines for one's self and crossing others, whether musically or
otherwise. I believe being punk ultimately results in the unprecedented vindication of ones beliefs by an unbiased repertoire of that particularly
oxymoronic acceptance into a punk community totally without prior provocation or solicitation - simply by being a freely expressive individual due to
personal, non-derivative choice. It is fantastic by its liberal design, far from contrived by trends or discipline, and it introduces one to an unbarring
lifestyle, like possibly none other in your experience hitherto.

h@rLeQu!n Similarity
Cape Town, 2003

Shadows of help in a clinical Styx
Tally up siblings, minus six
Impossible to pull through with no head
Wait, here it comes, look, almost dead
The cord gets severed from round my throat
Too much in common is rarely the tote

But lets talk about happy things

Incredulous details, the subject of talks
Most reverent replays, the object of walks
Ages apart but never too close
But only one difference: one is verbose
Destiny takes a new meaning it seems
Our traits are exact: the future writes reams

h@rLeQu!n My Friend
Cape Town, 2003

Riddle dee dee, here a riddle for thee
Cosmo hair detailed as if page three
On the first day of Christmas, in London you see
Two months of fun by the river Dee
And a gothic donkey in a pear tree

h@rLeQu!n In Your Sleep
Cape Town, 2003

In a dream there she lies sweetly curled
The most beautiful girl in the world
She knows even now
She will conquer somehow
Sees her future before her unfurled

h@rLeQu!n Space Cake Factory
Cape Town, 2003

Fake it or heave it
Take it or leave it

Slake it or weave it?
Bake it and sleeve it!

h@rLeQu!n See You Soon
Cape Town, 2003

The reason I went and wrote this
Is I love you, your companys bliss
So my skill wont suffice
But the meaning is nice
And already your presence I miss

h@rLeQu!n Talking
Cape Town, 2003

For hours we sat down and spoke
But it felt like a ten second joke
How fun I did find
Digging deep in your mind
I was smiling still when I awoke

h@rLeQu!n Dear X
Cape Town, 2003

My life is a burden to bear
But with you I could go anywhere
Your radiant grace
A smile on your face
Youll never know how much I care

h@rLeQu!n Luck vs. Fortune vs. Love
Cape Town, 2003

Do you believe in the difference that exists between luck and fortune?
Could I be the most unfortunate man in history and still have good luck?
I am glad to announce I need not make that distinction, you see for what I have encountered
Is beyond proportion and limitless. Isnt it funny how life can become its polar opposite before your eyes?

h@rLeQu!n Spellbound
Cape Town, 2003

She knows who she is, I wont tell
And in love with this girl I soon fell
With each passing day
And in every small way
Succumb deeper into her spell

h@rLeQu!n Extra-Sensory Perfection
Cape Town, 2003

To bed back and forth I went
Were all of my messages sent?
All six of my senses alive
Yet sleep I feel I should deprive

For how I could be satisfied
If she didnt know how I had vied
To submit all our wonderful news
I believe it could not be excused

For nitpicking comes and it goes
But theres something I do that she knows
I select but a few perfect words
Like a swan among scavenging birds

h@rLeQu!n Essay #2 (Numbers)
Cape Town, 2003

Evolution is fundamental. Technology evolves. My most crucial argument with digitalization and incrementation (as advancements in technology,) is
their inherent conflict with my view that numbers rule your life. If humans were designed to think in character-form we would have integration sockets
and power buttons. Numbers typically serve a bigger role in society in modern times owing to the increase in the dynamics of daily living. Time and
money are suddenly of the essence and certainly age is a factor never overlooked in so many facets. I believe this to be a self-detrimental and
potentially implosive trend that will possibly result in the collapse of economics and possibly modern life in general. People should be more open-minded
and less constringent in their thinking and we will go far. The fact that so many prejudices are adapted from constraints of numbers is quite alarming
based as they are not on morality or religion but rather a suggestive code of moral conduct or a social ethics framework. This in itself is enough to
convince me that humans are simultaneously the cleverest and the stupidest animals on the planet. Fair enough?

h@rLeQu!n - Make a Wish
Cape Town, 2004

I cannot describe what I'm feeling today
It must be that shooting stars make me this way
Believe in your heart and those wishes come true
My wish is that you feel the same as I do

h@rLeQu!n - Stars
Cape Town, 2004

For every shooting star up high, a dream from Heaven passes by
So should you ever start to cry, remember this and don't ask why

h@rLeQu!n - Upside Outside
Cape Town, 2004

I could not wait, it's not too late
And thanks to fate, I'm at your gate

I got my way, I had to pay
A trip to say, You made my day

h@rLeQu!n - Dja Vu
Cape Town, 2004

The strangest thing happened to me just today
An angel appeared right inside your hallway
The remarkable part of this story is true
As I got closer to her I saw it was you

h@rLeQu!n - Grandeur
Cape Town, 2004

How to escape the corporate hive?
Millionaires by thirty-five
Do it your own
But never disown
The dreams that scared you to strive

h@rLeQu!n - Psychadelic Saviours
Cape Town, 2004

Somewhere out in sands of time
Gin and tonic splashed with lime
Typical old pantomime
I relish it, is that a crime?

For who can truly know or say
What happens to the time of day
Or why it never goes my way
At least it will today, I pray

Sooner yet I may be dead
Then I will lose whats in my head
And so Ill slowly stop to tread
Upon the sands of time, now red

h@rLeQu!n - Forever Plus
Cape Town, 2004

Friends that came and wouldnt go
Blessed with love Ill never know
Like every part from tip to toe its far too precious to let go

h@rLeQu!n - Hooray for Nerds
Cape Town, 2004

A blade of grass in seas of green
Is trod upon but rarely seen
Yet each of these in time did spawn
To contribute to lusher lawn

A grain of wheat, of sand or sleet
Could never clash, if even meet
Yea if the wind just turned its eye
The little grains would go bye, bye

The moral of the tale is this
Eventually we turn to piss
So bide the time without duress
And flaunt about that cute pink dress

h@rLeQu!n - Anti-Climb-Axe
Cape Town, 2004

Much as my fat pompous cat
I laze on my woven straw mat
As the sun seared my ears
Through jeers and cold beers
A distant bird shat on my hat

h@rLeQu!n - No Turning Back
Cape Town, 2004

From dark disarray I come here today
Im seeking a life of my own
Ive made bad mistakes, devoid of retakes
Far gone yet too near to disown

I guess that I know like I reckon I show
Just enough to erase it away
Im hoping with time to revoke all my crime
Through this journey Ive started today

h@rLeQu!n To Be Continued
Cape Town, 2005

To be continued
From far as' been issued
Leave me be still 'till then

Hail the surprises
My writing comprises
When soon I return again

h@rLeQu!n Joan of Arc
Cape Town, 2005

Spires hail an arrow storm
Armour jewels the mounds
Horde and horse maintain a form
Upon rouge battlegrounds

A talcum brow aloft a deer
Enrobed in silent silk
Whisks a gesture smooth and leer
Twin olive pearls in milk

Beneath the veil of virgin voice
Her hand commands the war
A peasant child deprived of choice
Shall conquer France once more

h@rLeQu!n - Players
Cape Town, 2005

They try to impress you or offer you pearls
Imbue and undress you with bitter gin whirls
Needing to gratify
Seeking to satisfy
Spewing out nonsense to all the same girls

h@rLeQu!n Perfectly Circular
Cape Town, 2005

Swimming through the wild tide of red pennies
Frantically hunting for a dime

Finding nought but sweat and fervent bellies
Wasting all the while our worthy time

Lusting and impoverished he quivers
Money trees are sprouting in his eyes

Overlooking all beneath the shivers
Therein lies the answer or his prize

h@rLeQu!n What a Drag
Cape Town, 2005

Twist the key and spin the rotor
Pedal down and swing the motor
Dial a gear and prod her horses
Drop the clutch and feel her forces

Cylinders banging up fiery violence
Tyres uproarious, slaying the silence
Rushing off promptly to untold speed
Mechanical predator of a rare breed

h@rLeQu!n Rain and Rose
Cape Town, 2005

My English Rain and Rose return
As timeless as a marble urn
Yea if the world would care to learn
From knowing rain and rose, I yearn

For never twice shall mortal meet
A pair so cultivated, sweet
Flickered flames that fell refleet
That blaze in sunshine, hail or sleet

My English rain and rose reside
In permanentia by my side
Never more their bare soul hide
Resplendent rain and rose, my pride

h@rLeQu!n - Rhodesiache
Cape Town, 2005

There once was a monkey called Bob
Whose peoples' own farms he would rob
Adjusted the polls
From aft the black Rolls
In order to save his own job

There too was a country called Zim
Whose futures thus woefully grim
Its thanks to old Bob's
Own collaborate mobs
The economy died at a whim

h@rLeQu!n Bride to Bribe
Cape Town, 2005

I'm innocent officer, just hear me out
I happened to be there at thereabout
It's not that I hate her
It's not in my nature
Do you prefer tenners, a cheque or a pout?

h@rLeQu!n Feigning Ailing
Cape Town, 2005

Baroness reclining fair
Glimpse upon her sterling chair
Sung four chords of waving hair
Before retiring down the stair

Gaze across the lotus frond
Shade the glimmer on the pond
Wave again your precious wand
Yet cast no spell for I have yond

Baroness reclining high
Rays adorn thine silken thigh
Woudst thou not invite to lie?
For would I, grace, before I die

h@rLeQu!n - Violence
Cape Town, 2005

Her blood curdles slow
Yet after the show
She captured my heart and much more

Retracting like claws
A scythe through her jaws
Beneath her own dark cellar door

h@rLeQu!n The Dream
Cape Town, 2005

Where I reside, now lurking inside
Demons abound around

Tearing to free, the wires of me
Heavenly void of sound
