Office assistant

SATI is seeking to appoint one or two assistants to work in the SATI office one morning a week.
The position will involve administrative work with a view to the person(s) becoming familiar with
SATIs operation and helping to manage the office, especially when the executive director is away.
We are hoping to find a member of the Institute with a passion for the profession, who would like to
help build the Institute within our culture of giving back to the profession and recognising our
limited resources.

Appointees will work under the executive director at her office in Rivonia, Johannesburg. This will
be a contract position. We would like to appoint someone who works in the language practice
profession, so that they have the necessary background knowledge for the work that will be
needed. In time, some work may be able to be done from home. This is intended to be a long-term
relationship and is not suitable for an intern or someone looking just for temporary work.

The position will start in July 2014 and the appointee will be required to work a four-hour period
one day a week, at a time to be agreed.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, aspects of the following:
Registrar functions registering new members, recording payments, maintaining the Institutes
membership database and records, membership invoicing, updating member information on the
website and related tasks
Maintaining the SATI e-groups
Communication with members and the public, answering enquiries, providing information
Organising and running events
Publicity campaigns or activities
Administration related to bursaries, the triennial SATI Prizes, etc.
Other tasks as may be required

Requirements:
Own transport
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook; internet research skills
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Proficiency in another official language(s) would be an added advantage
Translation and editing skills would be an added advantage
Good interpersonal skills
Strong planning and organisational skills
Self-motivated, a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Able to use own initiative and take ownership of his/her tasks
A commitment to providing excellent, customer-friendly service
Good time management skills
Own laptop and Internet access would be an advantage

As this is a freelance contract position, it does not include leave or other benefits.

Digital assistant
SATI is seeking to appoint a person to take charge of its website and social media presence. We
are hoping to find a member of the Institute with an interest in the digital world combined with a
passion for the profession, who would like to help build the Institute within our culture of giving
back to the profession and recognising our limited resources.

This will be a contract position. Appointees will work under the executive director. Initially it may be
necessary to spend some time at her office in Rivonia, Johannesburg, but generally the work can
be done from home. The appointee will need to have the requisite skills and so the position is not
suitable for an intern.

The position will start in July 2014. No particular number of hours is set for this work, but it will
require at least a small amount of time on a daily basis.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, aspects of the following:
Maintaining and helping develop the SATI website, which will include updating as well as
preparing new information for the site
Maintaining the SATI Facebook page, adding at least one post a day and ensuring the page is
of interest and draws visitors
In time, possibly maintaining other social media presences for SATI

Requirements:
An interest in the digital world
Experience in using website content manage systems
Experience in social media
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Proficiency in another official language(s) would be an added advantage
Translation and editing skills would be an added advantage
