Poetry Portfolio

The portfolio will showcase the poetry you write during this unit as well as the concepts you have
learned. In addition to your poetry unit test, this is the other big grade for this unit. Please read the
directions carefully and keep up with all of your work, including rough drafts. Make it look nice.
Decorate it and color it to make it unique.

Components (must appear in this order)
1. cover- must have an attractive cover with your name, title of your portfolio, class period and due date.
It can be homemade or store-bought.
2. Table of Contents with page numbers
3. Original Poetry: Use a separate sheet of paper for each poem. These should be written nice and neat
and not in pencil. Only the final drafts will go into the portfolio, but you will turn your rough drafts in
separately.

Directions for Literary Elements Component:
For each of the following terms, you will need to define each term in your own words and give 2 examples. If
the example comes from a poem in the book, you must cite the title and author. You may make up your own
examples as well.

Directions for Poem Analysis:
pick a poem we have read in class (be sure to provide the title) and complete the following activities:
1. paraphrase the poem
2. identify 2 examples of sound devices
3. identify 2 examples of figurative language and explain them
4. identify the tone and support your answer with evidence from the poem
5. identify the mood and support your answer with evidence from the poem
6. Provide 2 examples of imagery and explain what senses it appeals to
7. Explain the poem's theme or message to the reader in one well written paragraph.
