2014 IACBE STUDENT CASE-STUDY COMPETITION FOCUS ON: BUSINESS ETHICS
Wednesday-Thursday | April 9-10 | 2014 San Diego, California, USA
This competition is open to students from all IACBE-member schools and is scheduled in conjunction with the 2014 IACBE Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting.
The IACBE is committed to partnering with colleges and universities in preparing todays business students for tomorrows workplace. In this spirit, the case-study competition is intended to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their ability to analyze a case, to identify and discuss recommendations for action in an ethical and thoughtful manner, and to think on their feet. The case-study competition will require their ability to (1) work as members of a team, (2) collect, analyze, and use data, and (3) present information and answer questions in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
Teams: Teams are to include no fewer than three (3) and no more than (4) members. Each team must be accompanied by a faculty advisor.
Entry Fee: The entry fee is $450/team, which covers the cost of certificates, awards, breakfast and lunch on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Accreditation and Awards Banquet on Thursday evening. In addition, there is a discounted $300 conference registration fee for faculty advisors, which covers the cost of meals and allows advisors to attend concurrent sessions.
Other Costs: All other expenses (hotel, meals, transportation, activities) not specifically included in the entry fee are the responsibility of the respective teams.
Winners: A first-, second-, and third-place team will be selected, and each placing team will be awarded a plaque that can be displayed at their respective schools. Student participants from Elms College (2013)

The competition will be held at the conference hotel on Wednesday and Thursday of the IACBEs Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting.

3 Case-Study Competition Rules (for both rounds)
Competition is open to students from all IACBE- member institutions and is scheduled in conjunction with the 2014 IACBE Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting. Teams are to include no fewer than three (3) and no more than four (4) members. Each team must be accompanied by a faculty advisor. Judges will be drawn from the San Diego business/university community, if at all possible. Multiple teams from a single institution may not transfer, switch, or change students once teams are registered. Violation of the Faculty and Student Code of Conduct can result in immediate dismissal from the case-study competition and possible suspension from future competition events. Faculty advisors and/or students who are dismissed due to a violation will promptly leave the area of competition. All communication regarding problems, concerns, or inquiries relating to the student case-study competition are to be directed to Rochelle Petway by registered faculty advisors. The IACBE has the authority to make final decisions on any situation not specifically covered by these rules.

Round 1
(1) Each team is to select and prepare a case for presentation that has ethical implications. (2) Teams are expected to explain the legal, financial, economic, marketing, and management issues relevant to the situation and present the ethical issue that they have chosen to address. (3) After presenting the case information, each team must make recommendations for action this are solidly grounded in ethics theory. (4) The case presentation (with PowerPoint slides) must be no more than 20 minutes in length, followed by up to 10 minutes of questions from the judges.
Round 2
(1) The top three teams emerging from round one will have five hours to prepare a case selected by the IACBE. (2) Teams are expected to explain the legal, financial, economic, marketing, and management issues relevant to the situation and present the ethical issue identified in the case. (3) After presenting the case information, each team must make recommendations for action this are solidly grounded in ethics theory. (4) The case presentation (with PowerPoint slides) must be no more than 15 minutes in length, followed by up to 10 minutes of questions from judges. Rules
