State Illinois Common Core or Learning Standards Standard Area IVB: Memory National NCSS Themes Theme 5 Objective Students will read the article found at: http://education- portal.com/academy/lesson/three-stages-of-memory-in-psychology-explanation- lesson-quiz.html#lesson Students will then demonstrate understanding through making a flowchart of the steps of memory in their own words.
Materials: Printed copies of article Paper Pencils Objective Intuitive Students will reflect on their own memory and decide whether they think they use their long or short term memory more and if they had to lose one, which would they rather lose? Students will write their thoughts down and share them aloud if they would like.
Intuitive Positive/Strengths Positive/Strengths Students will play a memory game online at: https://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/stm0.html Students will then write about how they felt that they did and what strengths that they have dealing with their memory. Negatives/Weaknesses
Students will also write about and weaknesses they felt that they had in their memory. Negatives/Weaknesses Creative Creative Students will create their own memory game of any kind that they would like.
Materials: Paper Pencils Markers Scissors Glue
Thinking About Thinking Thinking About Thinking Metacognition is used throughout the whole lesson by the students thinking about their own memory. For the last part of the lesson students will share their first memory that they have. Students will write a narrative story of their earliest memory.
