Implementing a fundamental ISO 9001 QMS

Andre Soresa-Poza of the Department of Engineering,

Management and System Engineering, Old Dominion University,
Norfolk, 23529 USA in his conceptual paper provides guides for a
development of a functional ISO 9001 QMS in small and medium-sized
enterprises. Its purpose is to help and define QMS implementation.
Quality Management System (QMS) is one of the quality tools in
organization to improve quality performance. They are usually used
in the effort to diagnose, maintain, and improve their QMS. This made
company organization to maintain the QMS based on ISO 9001
standards to undergo series of audit. E. Ramly,et. al. ( --) in his article
a conceptual framework in knowing the effectiveness of QMS audit to
improve quality performance,, given the physical and conceptual
system, this only fail to adhere the objectives set forth to assess the
effectiveness of and at the same time fail to recognize area of
implementation.

The study of P. Elesriotes and D.G. Warehorn (2005) in the
relation of sustainability to ISO14000 environmental management
standards, the study aims to explain the lines between standards
development and the ISO 14000. This environment management
series was conducted in a large engineering facility in the Canadian
Provincial Crown. Discussion on the use of ISO 14000 for environment
management had a number of weaknesses . This include the facts that
they that they do not include the environmental performance goals
and that the language is sometimes ambiguous which may give
different interpretation which may thus complicate implementation.
Despite this, their wide spread adaption makes it clear that they are
seen to the industries that they are reasonable tool for the effective
measurement of environmental responsibilities and commitments.
One reason for this may be that they represent an operational
approach at the philosophical level resonant with the notion as
sustainable development.
