SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY OF RAW MATERIALS IN EUROPE





About ERA-MIN
The ERA-MIN project Network on the Industrial
Handling of Raw Materials for European
Industries is a four-year ERA-NET action,
financed under the Seventh Framework
Programme, which aims to contribute to the EU
security of non-energy non-agricultural raw
materials supply, through coordination of
research in the European countries.
ERA-MIN has launched the second Joint Call on
Sustainable Supply of Raw Materials in
Europe (2014), to support transnational needs-
driven research projects, along the value chain.
The indicative total available budget is in excess
of 7.500.000 (national public funding only).

RTD topics
The research and technological development
(RTD) topics to be funded under the second
ERA-MIN Joint Call (2014) address all aspects of
the non-energy raw materials value chain,
grouped into three topic areas:
1. Primary resources;
2. Secondary resources (recycling);
3. Substitution of critical materials.
In conjunction with these three technological
areas, ERA-MIN also supports horizontal
activities under the areas environmental and
social aspects, public policy support, mineral
intelligence, education and international
cooperation. For more detailed information on
the research needs per each topic and sub-topic
areas, applicants are invited to consult the ERA-
MIN Research Agenda, available at the ERA-MIN
website www.era-min-eu.org,

Funding agencies
14 funding organisations from 12 countries
committed to fund the second ERA-MIN Joint
Call (2014): TEKES (Finland), ADEME (France),
ANR (France), OTKA (Hungary), NCBR (Poland),
FCT (Portugal), UEFISCDI (Romania), MENV SR
(Slovakia), MINECO (Spain), VINNOVA (Sweden),
SGU (Sweden),TUBITAK (Turkey), DST (South
Africa) and MINCYT (Argentina).
Other agencies from other EU and non-EU
countries are currently considering
participation. Updates will be published as soon
as a decision becomes available. Potential
applicants are therefore advised to check
regularly the ERA-MIN website: www.era-min-
eu.org, section Joint Call.

Target groups
Eligible consortia will have to include at least
three organisations from at least two Call
funding countries. Consortia involving both
academic and industrial organizations are
particularly encouraged to apply.

Timeline
The second ERA-MIN Joint Call (2014) will close
on the 17
th
June 2014, at 17.00 CEST.
Proposals will be submitted via the Electronic
Submission System (ESS), which will become
available by mid-April 2014 on the ERA-MIN
website. Eligible proposals will be peer-
reviewed by independent experts. The final
funding decision is expected to be known by the
beginning of 2015.
