Pre-Installation Information
The Heat Trace Combination Drench Shower/Eyewash has been designed to maintain a constant
internal water temperature in freezing conditions to -50F (-46C). The unit is acceptable for use in
Class 1, Division 2, Groups B, C and D rated environments and complies with ANSI Z358.1-1990
(SEI and CSA approval pending).
The unit is protected by self-regulated heat trace cable with a thermostat that will shut off power
when the outside air temperature reaches 54 to 64F (12 to 18C). The heating cycle will resume
when the temperature falls below 50F (10C). Power to the unit may be left on year around. Internal
water temperature will range from 45F (7C) to 85F (30C).
Activation of the drench shower or eyewash will purge the warm water from the units piping within
seconds; therefore a tempered water supply feeding the unit is highly recommended to encourage
effective use of the fixture. ANSI recommends a comfortable water temperature range of 60 to 95F
(15 to 35C). The tempered water system is supplied by others.
Components
Showerhead: The showerhead is 10" (254mm) in diameter and is rated at 30 GPM.
Shower Valve: The 1" NPT stay-open, valve operates by pulling a stainless steel triangular pull rod.
Eyewash Sprayhead Assembly: Twin perforated disc eye and face wash heads include 2.5 GPM flow
control. Protective dust caps pop off when water pressure is applied. The integral flow control assures
safe, steady flow under varying water supply conditions from 3090 PSI. NOTE: The ANSI Z358.1
standard requires an uninterruptable supply of flushing fluid at a minimum 30 PSI flow pressure.
Eyewash Valve: The 1/2" NPT stay-open valve operates by pushing the stainless steel push handle.
An optional drench hose (Model S19-876) is available for use with the eyewash valve.
Pipe and Fittings: The pipe and fittings are 1-1/4 galvanized steel.
*Electric Heat Trace Cable: The cable wraps around the pipe and fittings and is self-regulating to
-50F (-46C). The cable has a tinned copper metallic overshield, is rated T5 per NEC 500-3(b) and
is UL recognized. The cables thermal ratingis 5 watts/foot, the service voltage is 120VAC or
220/240VAC (depending on model ordered) (50/60 cyclesingle phase) and the amperage/wattageis .7
amp/80 watts at 120VAC (.35 amp/80 watts at 220/240 vac) at 50F (10C) internal unit temperature.
Thermostat: The thermostat opens at 64F and closes at 54F, and has a preset single-pole single-
throw (SPST) switch.
*Junction Box: The junction box is constructed of aluminum with four 3/4 NPT openings.
Pipe Insulation: 3/4 polyethylene closed-cell insulation encases the pipe and heat trace cable. A
vertical slit allows insulation to be easily removed and reassembled.
Protective outer shell: The units protective outer shell is constructed of bright safety yellow UV
stabilized ABS plastic. Four easy-to-remove sections allow for quick repairs and maintenance. The
shell is sealed with quick edge flexible vinyl trim with aluminum core for added weather protection.
Freeze Protection Valve: In the event of power loss to the unit, the freeze protection valve will
begin to activate at 45F (7C) and will fully open at 35F (2C). This allows water to circulate
inside the unit without freezing. Water drains from the valve to the outside of the unit through a
hose. The freeze valve does not require a drain connection. Maximum pressure rating is 200 PSI.

Optional Scald Protection Valve (Model S19-877): An optional scald protection valve may be
used to prevent dangerous over-temperature conditions (valve is sold separately). The valve activates
at 85F (30C) and fully opensat 105F (41C). As with the freeze protection valve, the scald
protection valve does not require a drain connection. Maximum pressure rating is 200 PSI.
Optional Indicator Light: An optional indicator light (Model S19-869 or S19-869EXP) may be used
to provide visible indication that power is being supplied to the unit (indicator light sold separately).
Optional Shower Alarm: An optional shower alarm (Model S19-320 or S19-320EXP) may be used
in remote locations to alert others that the drench shower/eyewash is in use. Alarm activates when
water flow is detected by the alarm flow switch (optional alarm sold separately).
*Standard Specification Components are rated Class 1, Division 2, Groups B, C, D, explosion-proof.
IMPORTANT: All emergency shower and eyewash equipment should be installed in
accessible locations that require no more than ten seconds to reach
and should be within a travel distance no greater than 30.5 meters
(100 feet) from the hazard (ANSI Z358.1-1990).

WARNING
Read this installation manual completely to ensure proper installation, then
file it with the owner or maintenance department. Compliance and conformity
to drain requirements and other local codes and ordinances is the
responsibility of the installer.
Separate parts from packaging and make sure all parts are accounted for
before discarding any packaging material. If any parts are missing, do not
begin installation until you obtain the missing parts.
Flush water supply lines before beginning installation and after installation is
complete. Test the unit for leaks and adequate water flow. Main water supply
to the eyewash should be ON at all times. Provisions shall be made to
prevent unauthorized shutoff. Flushing fluid should be tepid per ANSI Z358.1.
The inspection and testing results of this equipment should be recorded
weekly to verify proper operation. This equipment should be inspected
annually to ensure compliance with ANSI Z358.1.
Workers who may come in contact with potentially hazardous materials
should be trained regarding the placement and proper operation of emergency
equipment per ANSI Z358.1.
