Heritage as an Asset for Inner City Development
nai010 publishers 2014 ISBN 9789462081161 Acqm 23352
Pb 20x25cm 190pp 140ills 100col 31

Heritage is playing an increasingly empathic role in the development of the contemporary city. It
is an important location-determining factor for a new generation of city dwellers, newly developing
companies in the service sector and creative industries and also for recreation and tourism. At the
same time, unrestrained urban growth is putting historic inner cities under increasingly greater
pressure. Accordingly, it is time for a new orientation toward the historic city.

Lebbeus Woods, Architect
The Drawing Center 2014 ISBN 9780942324846 Acqn 23373
Pb 15x23cm 136pp 140ills 120col 17.50

Lebbeus Woods, Architect brings together drawings from the past 40 years by one of the most
influential designers working in architecture. Beyond architects, Woods (19402012) has been
hailed by designers, filmmakers, writers and artists as a significant voice in recent history; his
works resonate across many disciplines for their conceptual depth, imaginative breadth and
ethical potency. Woods worked cyclically, returning often to themes of architectures ability to
transform, resist and free the collective and the individual. As an architect whose work lies almost
solely in the realm of the proposed and the unbuilt, his contributions to the field opened up new
avenues for exploring and inscribing space. The publication centres on transformation as a
recurring theme. The organization of the images of works is thematic rather than chronological.

Collecting Architecture Territories
GSAPP Books 2013 ISBN 9781883584788 Acqn 22106
Pb 20x18cm 292pp 200ills 150col 13.95

Collecting Architecture Territories presents a research exhibition developed by Columbias
Graduate School of Architecture, (GSAPP) in collaboration with the Deste Foundation. The
exhibition examined the relationship between architecture and collection, considering architecture
both as an agent that organizes, supports and informs various contemporary collecting practices,
and as an object of collection in its own right. One of the most significant developments reshaping
the domain of art and architectural practice over the last three decades is the explosion of
institutions and foundations that have emerged out of private collections. Collecting Architecture
Territories proposes that the historical institution of the museum no longer suffices to describe the
territory in which the practices of artists, collectors, curators and architects now operate.

C3 358 - Live,Work Hybrids. Recovering Wood
C3 2014 no ISBN Acqn 23847
Pb 23x30cm 208pp 250ills 150col 21.95

This instalment investigates two main themes: Live/Work Hybrids and Recovering Wood. In
the first, seven small office projects are examined that raise questions about how working space
will be organized in the future. With advancements in communications technology, Fraher
Architects, Carlo Bagliani, Akitoshi Ukai and others demonstrate the office blocks possible
demise. Also, wood is back in fashion. Projects by Shigeru Ban, Gensler, HAMR and more show
its recovery as a contemporary building material, revealing the motives for this renewed interest,
like technological discoveries and softening the encounter between our natural and built
environment.

elaborated in a wide variety of case study designs. After all, energy is relevant at every scale and
all levels of abstraction, from global political strategies to the solar panel on the roof. The
challenges receive due attention in a series of essays on the energy market, the role of politics,
the psychology of transition, and technical developments and constraints.

Hb 21x28cm 280pp 250ills 100col 41.95

The Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914-1973) is internationally reknown for his activities within the
CoBrA and the International Situationist groups. Quite apart from his paintings, prints, ceramics
and sculptures, Jorn produced a remarkable amount of theoretical work. His ideas are still
extremely relevant to contemporary discourse. However, in contrast to his artistic oeuvre, Jorns
theoretical arguments have received much less attention from scholars of architecture, art history,
or philosophy. This book for the first time reveals this largely ignored aspect of Jorns work.

a+t 42 - Reclaim Domestic Actions 2
a+t Ediciones 2014 ISBN 24x32cm 152pp 175ills 100col 26.50

Rounding off the Reclaim series, which arose from an environmental sense of reclaiming land,
objects, infrastructures and materials, this issue focuses on the refurbishment of dwellings,
analysing actions carried out on both private residences and collective housing. Through works
by Lacaton & Vassal, for instance, the collective housing passed down from the last century is
reconsidered, demonstrating that selective redemption of architectural heritage is becoming an
increasingly viable option for todays cities.

Patrick Berger - Animal?
Les Presses Du Reel 2014 ISBN 9782840666981 Acqn 23980
Pb 17x23cm 156pp col ills 33.75

A manifesto for an organic architecture that provides a new reading of Parisian architect Patrick
Bergers proposal for the Canopy of Les Halles in Paris, this publication also delves into the main
research and experiments he has undertaken. By comparing architectural and biological
structures in an examination of early human constructions with those found in nature, and by
placing them on the same level, Berger suggests that the notion of economy is key to
manifestations of organic life. The optimisation of materials, productive energy and environmental
advantages or constraints together yield a singular geometry for each species and situation or
urban context.
