Introduction
SAMR !as set u" as an autonomous R & D laboratory at Mumbai under
the then De"artment of lectronics# Government of India !ith a broad mandate to
!ab'i(a,ion o- -ie&. op,i(s &ens

underta&e R & D !or& in the areas of Micro!ave ngineering and
lectromagnetic ngineering Technology. De"artment of Information Technology
under the aegis of 'ai (igyan )ational S&T mission "ro*ect initiated the
develo"ment and de"loyment of +M( integrated Medical Linac for the treatment
of cancer. ,nder this "rogram si- machines are to be fabricated and de"loyed in
si- cancer hos"itals in the country identified by De"artment of Information
Technology# Government of India. During first "hase of the "rogram# t!o
machines have been develo"ed. The first unit SIDD.ART./$ !as commissioned
at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Science# Seagram# 0ardha and is
successfully treating "atients since 1ct. 233+. The second machine#
SIDD.ART./2# has been commissioned at the 1ld 4ancer Institute# Adyar#
4hennai since May 2335.
SAMR is establishing a dedicated centre at 6ela"ur in )avi Mumbai for
the integration and testing of these machines.
