King Cobra
Swaying and slithering
he weaves a magic of his own
Deadly as he has become
still the choice of the Divine.
What hand or eye could
come up with this perfection
and poison all crafted into
this magical being. His courtship
is legendary, his venom
an instant relief from life.
Adams lure but a yogis allure
His mesmeric gaze could be
an invitation to Life or Death.
Your venom has cured me of Life
Your venom saved me from Death
Above all, your venom did dissolve my Ignorance
You have been fatal to my love and life
But can I ever help adoring you.

Dear Readers,
The question posed to Sadhguru in our Lead Article refects a common human predicament that we
seem helplessly subject to: the mental and emotional ups and downs of day-to-day life. The only way
out of this endless cycle is The Golden Means of Blissfulness, Sadhguru says. What this is all about
and how to get there, he expounds on in our article of the same title.
In the highs and especially in the lows, the thought process can develop into a vortex that sucks us
in. But what is actually the Source of Thoughts just the mind? Find out the more differentiated and
in-depth answer, delivered from the unique perspective of a mystic.
Honestly, have you ever felt quite special about being initiated into spiritual practices that most other
people are clueless about, or about going to sacred sites like Kailash that others can only dream of?
In Divine Calling, Sadhguru addresses the question whether there are chosen ones on the spiritual
path, and why a few get to embark on it while the majority doesnt.
The second excerpt of the Death & Beyond conversation between lyricist Prasoon Joshi and
Sadhguru deals with the question Why Death Rituals. What may appear as empty rituals or plain
money making today has a much deeper root than meets the eye. Sadhguru explains the context and
possible impact on our lives and that of the deceased.
Death rituals follow a certain sequence, and so does Hata Yoga as taught in Isha. The article First
Things First examines why the order of asanas is imperative, and where it actually stems from.
From the postures of Hata Yoga, we transition to the fowing movements of dance. During the Leela
program, which was flled with the most exquisite expositions of this art form, naturally, the question of
its signifcance arose. In the article Dance or Death Sadhguru expands on the matter in its existential
dimension.
The Happenings in this edition are mostly green, and so is this months recipe. Enjoy a light and
favorful Chana Spinach Bhel!

ISHA FOREST FLOWER July 2014
The following is an excerpt from a darshan with
Sadhguru at the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences,
McMinnville, Tennessee, USA, on 19 April 2014.
Questioner: Sadhguru, there are days when I am
extremely happy, and there are days when I am
extremely sad for no reason. How to deal with these
ups and downs?
Sadhguru: In southern India, if someone laughs
too much and is too happy, they say, Dont laugh
so much. It will be followed by misery. This is an
unfortunate kind of wisdom that they have come
to because life has been like that to them. If they
experience too much joy today, misery will strike
them tomorrow. This is because people work
themselves up. In their minds, they multiply both
misery and joy. Now you may ask, If we dont do
this, where is the beauty in life? Life is beautiful as
it is. You do not have to give it a coat of make-up.
It is because you have no attention for life in
its fundamental sense that you are lost in your
psychological reality. The psychological and
physiological aspects of who you are happen in cycles.
You may be overly exuberant and on a high today
and hit the bottom tomorrow. Most human beings
are going through this psychological rollercoaster.
You will always fnd some outside infuence as an
excuse, but even if we lock you up in a room and
there is no one who can cause happiness or misery
to you, still these psychological cycles will happen.
Similarly, there are physiological cycles, and both
the psychological cycles and the physiological cycles
can infuence each other, depending on which is the
bigger force at that moment.
The knowledge about these cycles has sunk into
people in a certain way, and they kind of psych
themselves into believing that anyway, misery will
strike them and it will. If you understand that

you alone make up both joy and misery, there will
be no problem. The biggest mistake that people
make is they try to be happy. And not only happy
they try to be happier than someone else. That is a
serious problem. Do not try to be happy. Once you
experientially know that whatever happens within
you is caused by you and nothing else but you, you
will be blissful. You will neither be fying high nor
will you be in the dumps you will just be blissful.
This maintainable height of pleasantness may be
different from person to person, depending upon the
intensity and the amount of energy that you have,
but it is a stable platform. If you want to enjoy an
ecstatic state, you can always go up and come back.
If you like melancholy, you can go down and come
back up again.
This mean experience of blissfulness is the golden
mean, the middle path that the Buddha and others
have talked about. It is just that different people
arrive at a different mean. This is not a passive,
sedate state but a lively, pleasant state like a nice
morning. No thunder claps, but everything is fne,
going well. This is where the Good morning!
comes from. When you wake up in the morning
after having been removed from the world for a
period of time, it feels so nice. Even the afternoon
is nice, and so is the evening and everything else,
but it takes a withdrawal for you to notice this.
It is like after having nothing but kanji [liquid
porridge] for fve days, you eat regular food again.
You will suddenly notice how nice it is. Every
moment is good in its own way, but it takes a
withdrawal for you to notice this.
This golden mean is not non-participating. If you
want, you can fy up and land again, or you can go
down and come back again, but in any case, you
maintain a certain level of blissfulness. Organizing
this blissfulness is the work of your kriya. If you do
your kriya properly, you will hit that golden mean
and maintain it. From there, you can strive to set
your golden mean at a higher, more exuberant level.
Depending on how much energy and aliveness you
generate within yourself, your mean will settle at
a higher or lower level. But wherever it settles,
it will be a beautiful experience for you. It is not
effervescent ecstasy because you cannot maintain
that, or if you do, you cannot be active in the world.
You can get sozzled with ecstasy, but then you will
not be able to do whatever you have to do.
If you want to be effective in the world, you need
to maintain the golden mean of blissfulness
a blissfulness that is, for lack of better words,
a combination of natural peacefulness and
joyfulness. Lets say you are moving around in
the morning, making your breakfast, humming
without knowing; you simply feel nice this
is blissfulness. Ecstasy is a freaked-out state of
pleasantness. You cannot stay there unless you
have reached a certain level of energy. There
are yogis they are called avadhutas who are
in such states of ecstasy that they do not even
know that they must eat. They do not care to
do anything. Someone has to feed them; someone
has to take them to the toilet as if they were
completely drugged out. But in todays world,
there is no one to take care of you you better
come down.
You must hit your golden mean. It is time to simply
sit no matter if your knees swell, your ankles hurt
like hell you are blissful. One part is in heaven,
one part is in hell in between is the golden mean.
That is why long meditations to arrive at a state
where you can be engaged in everything in the
world, but still be blissful. If you do not have this
stable platform and you get into activity, you will
get lost. In todays world, most of peoples lives are
too controlled nothing extreme happens to you.
Suppose you were living in the wild, your golden
mean of blissfulness would make you very alert and
enhance your survival capabilities.
If you are miserable and depressed, you will not
survive well you will want it all to end and become
the tigers lunch today. If you are too ecstatic, you
do not care if the tiger eats you either. Only if you
are in the golden mean, you can maintain your
survival instinct, do all the work that you can, and
still be pleasant to yourself and to everyone around
you, which is important if you want to live in the
The following is an excerpt from a Q & A session
with Sadhguru on 19 August 2013 during the Kailash
Manasarovar Sacred Walks.
Questioner: Namaskaram, Sadhguru. They say
that only upon divine call, people are able to visit
Kailash. Why is this divine call only showered upon
a few select people?
Sadhguru: The Divine doesnt choose. The Divine
is just calling. Only some people hear it that is all.
That is so with everything in the universe: Some
people dont hear. Some people hear and ignore it.
Some people hear and respond.
There are no chosen ones in the world. The Divine
is equally involved with an ant, an elephant, a
tree, a bird, a man, a woman, a rock, a plant
with everything. Do you think the Divine is less
involved in making an ant than in making you?
Have you ever paid close attention to an ant and
seen how fantastic a creation it is? If you see an
ant, you will crush it. If you see an elephant, you
will run. That is your problem. The Divine has not
paid any less or more attention to one thing than
to another. Even a pebble has received the same
attention as you. The only question is whether you
are able to respond or not.
If you respond, you will consciously know the
Divine. But even if you do not respond, still you
are breathing, your heart is beating you are
living. You are not doing any of these things. You
can call it nature; you can call it the Divine, but
everything is being done to you. Whether your life
is mundane or magical simply depends on whether
you consciously respond to all that is being done
to you free of cost, or whether you are ignorant of
those things because you are too full of yourself to
respond to the Divine. That is all the choice you
have, and that determines everything.
Divine Calling
Sadhguru on the Choice between Mundane and Magical
world. If you are so freaked out in ecstasy that
you do not care what happens around, you have to
withdraw completely. Such people usually will not
last too long they will die young, but this does
not matter ecstasy serves its own purpose. They
are in such a freaked-out state of ecstasy that life
may pop out any moment. If instead of living for
ffty years, they were in freaked-out ecstasy for fve
years and then died, it is perfectly all right. They
have seen everything that human experience can
touch there is nothing more to do.
The Bhava Spandana program is to show you that
you can freak out in ecstasy for no reason, which
is nice, but you cannot stay there. If you want to
always be in a pleasant state, you need to create a
stable platform a golden mean of blissfulness.
Meditating a few days in a year will not do. The
idea is to take the sadhana into your life. If you give
yourself to sadhana, I will be a living reality in your
life. Right now, I am a thought, a memory in your
mind. If you want me to be a living reality every
moment of your life, you have to invest some time
into bringing clarity to who you are. If who you are
is murky, whatever I am will be missed. There is
no space, no nook or corner, not one atom which
is not touched by the Grace of the Creator, but you
completely miss it as long as who you are is murky.
If you settle this, suddenly, it will be like a new
existence altogether.

ISHA FOREST FLOWER July 2014
The following is an excerpt from an in-car
conversation with Sadhguru on the way to Redding,
California, on 7 January 2002.
Questioner: Sadhguru, what is the source of
thoughts?
Sadhguru: In terms of content, the source of
your thoughts is the accumulation of your sense
perceptions. In terms of substance, a thought is just
a reverberation you can give it any form. When
the reverberations become continuous, the thought
process picks up momentum. Through meditation,
you calm down the reverberations into stillness. The
reverberation that you experience as thought right
now would on a lower scale of evolution be instinct.
Instinct is not exactly the same as thought there is
much more clarity in instinct than in thought.
A thought can be formed one way or the other it
can be contradictory. Instinct is clear-cut. Animals
that are lower on the evolutionary scale seem to be
so much surer about their life than human beings,
because their reverberations are on the level of
instinct. Instinct is always about survival mostly
physical survival. If you look at a worm for example,
it seems to be surer it just knows where to go,
because it follows its instinct.
We can say instinct is a lower form of thought, or
thought is a higher form of instinct whichever way
you want to look at it. Instinct has minimal reach
it is always about your immediate surroundings. But
your thoughts need not be about your immediate
surroundings they can be about anything. That
is why you think of so much nonsense that does
not really concern you. You think about all kinds
of things heaven, hell, a million years later or a
million years ago thoughts can go anywhere.
In the evolutionary process, as the body evolves, the
reverberations that happen within also evolve from
instinct to thought. Thought is a certain freedom it
gives you larger access to life. But at the same time,
thoughts create total turmoil in human beings. All
suffering is because you do not know which way to
think and what to do. If you went by your instinct
alone, you would know what to do. Life would be
much simpler, but also very limited. There would be
no possibilities other than survival.

After instinct evolved into thought, and the thought
process became excessive, the struggles have
arisen, because the thoughts happen involuntarily,
according to the sense impressions that you have
gathered. The thought process has become a
problem for people only because they are not aware
that it is just a reverberation. These reverberations
can take any form, or you can experience them just
as reverberations without giving them any form.
In a way, the process of Shoonya meditation is just
that. It is not that your reverberations have stopped,
as yet it is just that you have stopped attaching
forms or meanings to them. Being aware enough not
to attach forms or meanings to every reverberation
that happens within you is an enormous freedom,
and it releases you from the past content of your
mind. Or in traditional words it is unbinding your
karmic structure, because you are not giving it any
form or meaning anymore.
The whole process of Isha Yoga is about not
giving a form to the reverberation that you are
right now. Your thought is a reverberation, and
in a deeper way, what you call as myself is also a
reverberation. Life itself is a certain reverberation.
Modern physics is proving that the whole existence
is a certain reverberation of energy. The physical
body, thoughts, emotions, and everything else are
different aspects of the reverberation that existence
is. In human beings, this reverberation has evolved
from an instinctive state to a thought state, which is
a freedom because it gives you a larger access to life.
At the same time, without the necessary awareness,
all suffering that human beings are going through is
just in their thoughts it is in the way they think.

ISHA FOREST FLOWER July 2014
In this series, Sadhguru discusses various aspects that can signifcantly impact the quality of your
yogic practice.
Questioner: Namaskaram, Sadhguru. What is the
importance of the sequence in which we are doing
the asanas? Can we change the order?
Sadhguru: The order is not something that you or I
invented it arises from the observation of how not
only the physical body but the whole human system
functions. In your system, there is something called
skeletal comfort, muscular comfort, organ comfort,
and energy comfort. If you sit in a reclining chair,
your muscles will be comfortable, but your joints
will be strained. You may have noticed that if you
travel for some time sitting reclined in a plane or
a car, by the time you reach your destination, you
will be exhausted. If you sit up straight, this will not
happen. If you sit in a recliner, only your muscles
are relaxed, but there is a lot of stress on the skeletal
system, and above all, on your organs.
The vital organs in the trunk are not frmly
fxed with clamps and bolts or fanges but hang
in connective tissue like in nets. If you sit in a
recliner, especially in a moving vehicle, your
organs will suffer enormously. In a moving vehicle,
you must always sit straight, so that your organs
have greater comfort. If you lean back, one organ
will press on the other. This is why they say you
should never lie down right after food. In India,
they always told you that you must eat before
or just after sunset, and leave at least four hours
before you go to bed, because the food should have
left the stomach by then. If the stomach is full and
you lie down, it presses on other organs. Lets say
you have one or one-and-a-half kilogram of food
in your stomach and you lie down for a few hours,
depending upon how you are lying, this weight
could cause serious damage.
In Hata Yoga, this organ comfort is always
considered. Energy comfort is also considered.
Your energy functions in such a way that if
you activate one aspect of your energy without
activating another aspect of it, your system will
become disjointed. There are many disjointed
bodies everywhere. Disjointed energy means living
a broken life. Somehow, you may manage to live
long, but no matter what enters your life, you will
not be complete. You may win the lottery, you
may get married to the best man or woman in
the world, you may pray 24 hours of the day no
matter what you do, you will live a disjointed life.
First Things First
Part 7:
9
ISHA FOREST FLOWER
July 2014
The order of the asanas is not according to my or
your preference, it is the way the human system
is made. We need to activate it from one end to
the other. Sudden activation of a certain part will
lead to disjointedness. Life situations can be such
that there is no choice about how to act and no
system to it you may have to jump into action
whichever way it comes. But if you have activated
your system in a certain way, whatever situation
occurs in your life, you will be able to take it
without causing too much disturbance to your
system. One can distinctly see this if you do
proper classical yoga, whatever situations you face,
they will not leave you scattered. This preparation
creates a certain integrity in the system. Therefore,
the order of asanas is not by choice, it is according
to the way the human system is structured.

July 2014 ISHA FOREST FLOWER
Questioner: Sadhguru, Namaskar. I just wanted to
know, what is the importance of doing shraddh
(rituals for the deceased)?
Sadhguru: You know, in India, if someone close
to you dies, you are supposed to sit and watch
no one leaves a dead body alone. If you keep the
body for over two to three days, the hair will grow.
If it was a man and he used to shave, you can see
this from the facial hair. The nails will also grow.
Therefore, in countries where they preserve the
dead bodies for a longer time, the undertakers clip
the nails and shave the beard.
This is so because of the way life manifests. For
the sake of understanding there is fundamental
life and physical life. Physical life energy, which
is generally referred to as prana, has fve basic
manifestations. These are called samana, prana,
udhana, apana, and vyana. Within 21 to 24 minutes
from the moment when a doctor would declare a
person as dead, samana starts exiting. Samana is
in charge of maintaining the temperature in the
body. The frst thing that happens after death is,
the body starts cooling down. The traditional way
of checking whether somebody is dead or alive is to
feel the nose they would not check the eyeballs
and other parameters. If the nose has gone cold,
they concluded that he is dead.
Somewhere between 48 to 64 minutes after
somebody is considered as dead, prana exits.
Between six and twelve hours after, udhana exits.
There are tantric processes through which we could
revive the body before udhana exits. Once udhana
has exited, it is practically impossible to revive the
body. Then, somewhere between eight to eighteen
hours, apana exits. Subsequently, vyana, which is
the preservative nature of prana, will start exiting
and may continue to do so for up to 11 to 14 days
if it is a normal death that is if someone died of
old age, because life became feeble. For that period
In another edition of the In Conversation with the Mystic series, Sadhguru met with
lyricist, writer, and advertisement guru Prasoon Joshi for a session under the theme
Death & Beyond on 28 March 2014 in Mumbai. Here is the second excerpt of their
conversation, this time addressing a question from the audience.
Why Death Rituals?

of time, certain processes will continue in the body;
there will still be some element of life. If someone
died in an accident, when the life within was still
vibrant unless the body is totally crushed the
reverberations of this life will continue somewhere
between 48 and 90 days.
During that time, there are things you can do for
that life. Your experience of death is that someone
is gone, but the experience of that being is that
he or she has exited the body. Once they have
exited the body, you have no business with them
anymore. You cannot recognize them anymore,
and if they came back, you would be terrifed.
If people you love died and would pop up again,
there would be terror not love, because your
relationship is with their body or with their
conscious mind and emotion. Once someone dies,
those two aspects are left behind.
The mind is just a bunch of information that has
natural tendencies which fnd expression in a
certain way. When someone dies, there is no more
discernment, no more intellect. If you put one drop
of pleasantness into their mind, this pleasantness
will multiply a million fold. If you put one drop of
unpleasantness, that unpleasantness will multiply a
million fold. It is a little like with children they go
out to play until they are exhausted and cannot go
on anymore, because they do not have the necessary
discernment as to when it is time to go.
After death, discernment is completely absent, even
more than in a child. Then, whatever quality you
put into the mind, it will multiply a million fold.
This is what is being referred to as heaven and hell.
If you go into a pleasant state of existence, it is
called heaven. If you go into an unpleasant state of
existence, it is called hell. These are not geographical
locations these are experiential realities that a life
which has become disembodied is going through.
How well or how ridiculously it is done today is a
different matter, but there is a whole science of what
to do at different steps. One of the frst things people
traditionally do if somebody dies is, they will tie
the big toes of the dead body together. This is very
important because it will tighten up the muladhara
in such a way that the body cannot be invaded by
that life once again. A life that has not lived with
the awareness that this body is not me will try to
enter through any orifce of the body, particularly
through the muladhara. The muladhara is where life
generates, and it is always the last point of warmth
when the body is cooling down.
The reason why traditionally, we always said that
if somebody dies, you must burn the body within
an hour-and-a-half or a maximum of four hours is
because life tries to get back. This is also important
for the living. If someone very dear to you died, your
mind may start playing tricks, thinking that maybe
a miracle will happen, maybe God will come and
bring them back. It has never happened to anyone,
but still the mind plays up because of the emotions
that you have for that particular person. Similarly,
the life that has exited the body also believes that it
can still get back into the body.
If you want to stop the drama, the frst thing is to
set fre to the body within one-and-a-half hours. Or
to be sure the person is dead, they have stretched it
to four hours. But the body should be taken away as
quickly as possible. In agriculture communities, they
used to bury, because they wanted their forefathers
bodies, which are a piece of soil, to go back to the
soil that had nourished them. Today, you buy your
food from the store, and do not know where it comes
from. Therefore, burial is not advisable anymore. In
earlier times, when they buried in their own land,
they always put salt and turmeric on the dead body
so that it quickly dissipates into the soil. Cremation
is good because it closes the chapter. You will see
that when there is a death in the family, people will
be crying and wailing, but the moment cremation
happens, they will become quiet, because suddenly,
the truth has sunk in that it is over. This does not
only go for the living but also for the disembodied
being who has just exited the body. As long as the
body is there, he or she is also under the illusion that
he can get back, and it is better to stop that.
There are many rituals to see that you can somehow
put a drop of sweetness into such a non-discerning
12
ISHA FOREST FLOWER July 2014
mind so that this sweetness will multiply many
fold and they will live comfortably in a kind of
self-induced heaven. That is the idea behind the
rituals if they are done properly.
I am sure most of you have heard of runanubandha,
which indicates a physical relationship. Whenever
you touch somebody either because of blood
relationship or sexual relationships, or even if you
just hold somebodys hand or exchange clothes
these two bodies will generate runanubandha,
a certain commonality. When somebody dies,
traditionally, you are seeing how to completely
obliterate the runanubandha. The idea of putting
the ashes in the Ganga or in the ocean is to disperse
them as widely as possible so that you do not
develop runanubandha with one who has departed.
For you to continue your life, you must properly
break this runanubandha. Otherwise, as it happens
in modern societies, it will affect your physical
and mental structure. Children up to eight years of
age are immune to these things nature has given
them that protection. But adolescents will suffer
immensely when we do not take care of the dead
properly, because the energies of disembodied
beings are always there and the frst ones that
they go after are adolescents because they are the
most vulnerable. You see in the world today how
much upheaval people are going through during
adolescence.
One of the reasons why adolescence is more of a
struggle today than it was in previous generations
is that we are not properly taking care of those who
have departed and these runanubandhas are all
over the place. It is like loose software everywhere,
and it always affects adolescent life most.
Prasoon Joshi: But what to do? How do you grind
your emotions into powder and sprinkle it? I dont
think it is possible to cut off your emotions.
Sadhguru: Emotions are a different, secondary
aspect to life. It is the physical sameness, the
runanubandha with the dead that you want to
eliminate, because this can cause sickness and
mental derangement, among other things. Emotion
by itself is not damaging. If you had a beautiful
relationship with someone and now the person
is no more, it is healthy to cherish the beauty of
that relationship rather than suffer. But if the
runanubandha is there, it weakens your body and
your mental structure in such a way that instead of
cherishing all the beautiful things that happened
between two people, you are suffering, and not
only that it will lead to a certain derangement of
life. To avoid that, we try to destroy the physical
memory alone. It is not only that you cannot forget
the emotional and psychological memory, you
should not forget it either. Someone who meant so
much to you why should you forget them? You
must cherish that relationship forever.
Dance or Death
The following is an excerpt from Leela, the path of the playful, a unique exploration with Sadhguru
into the mystical realm of Krishna, which took place at the Isha Yoga Center in September 2005.
Leela Series
The path of the playful
Part LVII
Questioner: Sadhguru, I was wondering whether
you could talk about music and dance, which seems
to be a big part of Leela. And how do we cultivate
receptivity towards that dimension of life?
Sadhguru: It is not that Krishna was always singing
and dancing that was just one part of his life. What
is important is that you make your life process into
a dance. In the yogic culture, the process of creation
or shrishti has always been depicted as a dance of
energy, or a dance of fve elements. Today, even
modern scientists indirectly describe the whole
energy process as a dance. Likewise, there is the
dance of dissolution. Creation is a dance, and
dissolution also is a dance. It is a scientifc fact today
that everything in existence is a dance of energy.
Whether it is a joyful or a torturous dance is for you
to decide, because you have the possibility of using
your discrimination to either make yourself blissful
or make yourself miserable. But the play of energy
is on, all the time.
This is what Leela and Krishna are all about being
on all the time consciously, not compulsively.
When life situations compel you, when you act out
of compulsion and not out of choice, then it is a
great burden to be switched on you would rather
be switched off. Whenever you want to be switched
off, unknowingly, you are inviting death. Death
may not come straight away; it may come in small
measures, because your mind is not vibrant, intense,
and focused enough that the moment you wish it,
you will fall dead right there. It has happened to
people someone was having a great fght with
someone and in great emotion and anger they said,
I want to die, and they just fell dead, because they
14
ISHA FOREST FLOWER July 2014
wished for it at that moment, and their mind had
the intensity to make it happen.
Since your mind does not have this kind of focus and
intensity, whenever you want to avoid life, death
will happen piecemeal. Most people were really
alive when they were young, but except a handful,
as they grow older, they are not as alive as they
used to be anymore. They may be successful, doing
well in the sense that they have money, families,
children everything, but death has happened to
them piecemeal. When for example, I happened to
meet some of my school and college friends after
many years, and I slapped their back and talk to
them the way I used to 30 years ago, they looked
at me kind of strange. They were almost 60% dead
and could not understand this liveliness.
In so many ways, you try to avoid life and cause
a little bit of death to yourself, on a daily basis.
That is why, over time, most people do not carry
the face of life but the face of death. If someone
is around, doing something for them, people may
smile, but if they are alone, by themselves, they are
the face of death, because they have been inviting
death in small measure, moment by moment, on a
daily basis.
The whole purpose of Leela is that you are on
24 hours a day. You do not choose what is good
and what is not, or whether to participate or not. If
you do this for some time, you will shake off death.
Life is a dance of energy. If you consciously allow
yourself to do so, you will dance with it. If you
think life should dance in a different way, you will
kill yourself in the process. Life is just dancing. A
few things may happen your way, but that is not
important. The important thing is you are alive
and you enjoy the dance of life.
The main reason why you are not in tune with
the dance of life is you believe that you are super
smart. The cleverest man in the world is always the
biggest idiot when it comes to life. You may have
your property, your bank balance, or whatever
else, but you have missed life.
An Introduction to the A of Life
Sadhguru Conducts Inner Engineering in Atlanta
Nearly 800 participants from all backgrounds and
ages gathered from 1618 May 2014 at the Atlanta
Convention Center for an Inner Engineering
Program with Sadhguru. Within minutes, he
captured the audience with jokes and pokes, saying
that there would only be one boring topic to the
program: You, you, and you! Is it okay? The answer
was an enthusiastic Yes! He went on to introduce
everyone to the A of life simply being peaceful
and joyful. Only when ones body and mind are in
a state of pleasantness can one do ones best. You
are the basis of your experience. You are the basis of
everything that is happening within you right now.
Here is how participants and volunteers summed
up their experiences of the program:
Inner Engineering with Sadhguru is truly an
experience of a lifetime. As a Western-taught yoga
practitioner and teacher, his guidance and wisdom
brought alive the yogic teachingsThank you for
a deeply touching and hugely impactful experience
that has shifted me forward in my conscious
evolvement. - A Participant
Gurudev, in these three days, youve touched all
of our hearts. You said these big things in a very
simple way we could understand. Me, my husband,
my daughter, and son-in-law all participated in the
program. We got so much happiness and bliss
there are no words to describe.
- Ansuya I. Kumar, Participant
Being a volunteer is always a humbling experience.
To be able to take part in the transformation
of peoples lives is wonderful and peaceful. My
favorite moment was serving lunch I felt like a
mother, helping to feed everyone even though I was
hungry myself. Every moment was simply joyful.

PGH Raises Awareness with Clean-up Campaign and Cycle Rally
Project GreenHands organized a cycle rally in
Chennai and a Velliangiri clean-up campaign to
commemorate World Environment Day and spread
awareness about ecology and environment.
Velliangiri Clean-up
PGH in association with Salim Ali Centre for
Ornithology and Natural History (SACON)
organized a clean-up campaign of the Velliangiri
Mountains on 1 June. Hundreds of thousands of
devotees undertake a pilgrimage to the temple on
the Seventh Hill every year. Many plastic bottles,
bags, and wrappers get discarded on the forest
path, posing a huge burden to the environment.
Over 250 volunteers, NSS students, school
and college students, employees of corporate
companies and children from the nearby villages
made their way up to Seventh Hill, clearing all
the garbage along the way.
Cycle Rally in Chennai
In Chennai, PGH in association with the Tamil Nadu
Cycling Club (TCC) organized a cycle rally to create
awareness on global warming and carbon emissions.
The rally was fagged off by Mr. R. Nataraj, former
Director-General of Police (DGP). The cycle rally
started from VHS near Madhya Kailash to Siruseri
and back.
Later in the day, PGH organized a function to
launch its planting season for 2014. Member of
Parliament from Coimbatore, Mr. P. Nagarajan,
along with the Commissioner of Coimbatore
Corporation Ms. G. Latha, and Dean, Tamil Nadu
Agricultural University, Dr. S. Mahimairaja were
among the guests.
Four Million Saplings to Be Planted This Year

ISHA FOREST FLOWER
World Environment Day Celebrations at Isha Yoga Center
The Isha Yoga Center celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June. Here is a recap of the
events that brought equal measures of enjoyment and awareness.
To walk on this earth without leaving a mark
Is the path on which we are here to embark
Allowing seeds of life which are sown deep within
To be nurtured and grown to their full fruition
The land, air & sea vibrant with lifes purity.
Team Banyan Leaf
Ten teams of twenty people each, befttingly named
after different leaves, set out to celebrate the World
Environment Day with fun events. The outdoor
competitions included a cycle race. One person from
each team had to go as fast as his or her legs would
possibly allow from near the New Biksha Hall at the
ashram to the Maatu Mane near the forest check post
and back. In the meantime, the teams (minus the
cyclists, of course) were each given a strip of ground,
with the task of transforming it into miniature farm
land, ready for sowing. The team who cultivated the
land most neatly before the racing cyclists returned
won the most points. In the following relay across
the ashram, the cycle itself was the baton, passed
from one participant to the next. There was also
a slow cycling race, where, needless to say, the
slowest person was the winner. At the same time,
20 children from Isha Home School went on a
rally of their own to the Government School in the
nearby village of Semmedu, where they
distributed chocolates and 200 saplings
to the students.
The evening competitions at Spanda
Hall tested the participants creative
and aesthetic aptitude. For one, the
teams were asked to gather as much dry
waste as they could, and craft something
artistic or utilitarian out of it. A Ganesha made
from old CDs, a raincoat made from an abandoned
fex, dolls made from coconut shell, fowers made
from corn husk, and a purse made from a broken
umbrella were just some of the magnifcent artifacts
the different teams dreamed up and created. Second
was a poetry writing competition of sorts. The theme
was of course Nature and the Environment. The
last event easily the highlight of the day were
skits from the different teams on environmental
topics, ranging from Wastage to Conscious Usage
to Bottled Water to Potted Water. With tongue-
in-cheek repartee and satirical conversation, they
elicited laughter and made a point, all at once. The
winners in each category received terrariums with
saplings as a tribute to the environment.

Musings from the Master
Misty magic of the mountain dew
Drops so fagile and resilient
Drops hanging fom the tips of leaves,
drops rolling down the blades of grass
Drops that linger upon the spiders web
like a jewel of many splendored diamonds
Indestructible in its fagility
Beautiful as only a Trap can be.
Trap for the poor insect but palace
for the majestic spider crafing a
Cosmos of dexterity that decides
the fates of many lowly creatures
that are food and play for the
majestic spider with his many legs
and his spindle craf. The disdain
that he spills for the two legged
cripples as he dances upon his
agile ten legs casting inviting
nets of Hope and Death.
Death of the living who pity the Dead
Not knowing the bondage of life and feedom of Death.
Misty Magic
Excerpted from Sadhguru Spot of 4 June 2014
The Only striving worth its name is to strive for
death from which there is no resurrection. A Death
so complete that it frees you of the need to exist.
When you are free from the need to spin webs that
are cast to trap. One who traps cannot leave the web
either, trapped into his own trap.
Without setting a trap, there is neither work, food
nor play. So the trap has to be crafted with ones
heart strings of love, pain and ecstasy.
Dcor not of diamonds but drops of ecstasy that only
those steeped in love can smell. A trap that drips
with juices of life that flood away the fears of death.
Such an overflow of life that defies death and touches
the Beyond Here and Now. Such a honey trap when
you shake, drops of life will fall not unto Death but
into the Beyond.
Veils of misty myopia
Cocoon one with the warmth
of blindness beautiful
The beauty of a leaf, fower,
light, shadow, breast, hair
The myopic mist makes it all fair
You may burn your way
through these veils of mist
Or
OBeloved trust me
Behold my spirit in your Heart
Hold my hand in love
Become an ecstatic drip
That will let you fow unto the Beyond.
