A
man and his son were once going with their Donkey to market. As they
were walking along by its side a countryman passed them and said : "You
fool, what a Donkey for but to ride is upon?"

So the Man put the Boy on the Donkey and they went on their way. But
soon they passed a group of men. One of whom said : "See that lazy
youngster. He lets his father walk while he rides."

So the Man ordered his Boy to get off and got on himself. But they hadn't
gone far when they passed two women. One of whom said to the other :
"Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along."

Well the Man did not know what to do. But at last he took his Boy up
before him on the Donkey. By this time they had come to the town and
the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The Man stopped and
asked what they were scoffing at. The men said : "Aren't you ashamed of
yourself for overloading that poor Donkey of yours - you and your hulking
son?"

The man and Boy got off and tried to think what to do. They thought and
they thought, till at last they cut down a pole, tied the Donkey's feet to it
and raised the pole and the Donkey to their shoulders. They went along
amid the laughter of all who met them till they came
to Market Bridgewhen the Donkey, getting one of his feet loose, kicked
out and caused the Boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle the
Donkey fell over the bridge and his fore-feet being tied together, he
was drowned.

"That will teach you," said an old man who had followed them :

Elephant and Friends :

One day an elephant wandered into a forest in search of friends.

He saw a monkey on a tree.

Will you be my friend? asked the elephant.

Replied the monkey, You are too big. You can not swing from trees like
me.

Next, the elephant met a rabbit. He asked him to be his friends.

But the rabbit said, You are too big to play in my burrow!

Then the elephant met a frog.

Will you be my friend? He asked.

How can I? asked the frog.

You are too big to leap about like me.

The elephant was upset. He met a fox next.

Will you be my friend? he asked the fox.

The fox said, Sorry, sir, you are too big.

The next day, the elephant saw all the animals in the forest running for
their lives.

The elephant asked them what the matter was.

The bear replied, There is a tier in the forest. Hes trying to gobble us all
up!

The animals all ran away to hide.

The elephant wondered what he could do to solve everyone in the forest.

Meanwhile, the tiger kept eating up whoever he could find.

The elephant walked up to the tiger and said, Please, Mr. Tiger, do not
eat up these poor animals.

Mind your own business! growled the tiger.

The elephant has a no choice but to give the tiger a hefty kick.

The frightened tiger ran for his life.

The elephant ambled back into the forest to announce the good news to
everyone.

All the animals thanked the elephant.

They said, You are just the right size to be our friend.

Bad Temper
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a
bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must
hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next
few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number
of nailshammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was
easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told
his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out
onenail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed
and the boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said,
"You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The
fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a
scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It
won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry. The wound is still there."

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

The Pigeon and The Bad Crows

all the people. Enjoy reading this story.

Once upon a time there lived a farmer. He had amassed wealth by selling
the produces that he got from his farms. He distributed that wealth to all
the needy people. So, the whole village revered him for his magnanimity.
But he had a persistent problem in his farms. Whenever he sowed seeds
in his farm, the crows would come and eat them up. He was worried about
this trouble and his profit from the farms went reduced. The contemplated
the problem and came to a conclusion.

I must do something about these crows. I will be ruined if I do not stop
this dangerous and destroying tendency of these crows, he thought. He
consulted this problem with his friends. They gave an idea to get rid of
this nagging problem.

The next day, as suggested by his friends, the farmer bought a scarecrow
and placed it on the farm. The he sowed his seeds. This season, I hope, I
will get a good harvest, he said to himself softly.

When the farmer came to his farm a few days later, he saw that crowshad
pushed the scarecrow on to the ground. And the grains were all eaten.
The farmer cried out, I am ruined. He again took this matter to his well-
wishers. They decided to adopt another idea to bring this matter to an
end.

The farmer sat the whole night thinking of a plan to get rid of the crows.
Finally, just before dawn he had an idea, I must go to the town and buy
a large net. I will trap the crows in the net, he decided. Then he went to
sleep.

The farmer then bought a net and some grain. He laid the net on the farm
and spread the grain over it. Then he went and hid himself.

Soon the crows came to the fields to pick the grains. They were there.
More grains! That farmer is indeed a foolish, he does not seem to learn,
said the crows to each other. And they laughed among themselves. But
suddenly they realized that they were trapped. They realized their foolish
approach and greedy nature.

Before long, the farmer was standing over the crows. Aha! Finally, I have
got you all. For the destruction you have caused me, I will put you all to
death.

Suddenly the farmer heard a feeble voice among the noises of the crows.
There was a pigeon among the crows. Both the pigeon and the
badcrows were in the net. Both the pigeon and the bad crows were
sad. The pigeon said, Mr. Farmer, please let me go. You are angry with
the crows, not with me.

The farmer said, But you too have been caught stealing from my farm. I
will not spare you, said the farmer. The pigeon had to pay a heavy price
for having been in bad company. The farmer did not spare the
pigeoneither and he killed all the birds caught in his net. After that day,
he was happy with his farm and he earned as usual heavy profit from his
harvest

Fair Shares

Ali and Abraham were brothers. Their mother died very early. Their father
also died after some time. He left for his sons a cow and a date-tree.

Ali was cunning. He was greedy too. Abraham was kind and honest. He
trusted his elder brother. They wanted to divide their fathers property. Ali
said, I will be very fair with you, Abraham. You take the front portion
ofthe cow as your share. I will take the hind side of the cow. Each one
gets his profit only from his share. In the same way the tree was also
divided. The upper part of the tree went to Ali. And the lower part of the
tree went to Abraham.

Abraham fed the cow very well fresh grass and water. The cow became
healthy. It gave lot of milk. Ali got the milk. He sold the milk and got a lot
of money. But he did not hare the money with Abraham. Abraham asked
his brother about his share of money. Ali replied, I got the milk from my
portion of our cow. Hind part is mine as per the agreement. Each of us
gets the benefits only from his part. Abraham said nothing.

A wise man advised Abraham. He said some thing in the ear of Abraham.
The next day Ali was milking the cow. Then Abraham beat the cow in the
front portion. The cow started kicking. Ali shouted at Abraham. You fool!
Why do you beat the cow? Do not see me milking the cow?

The front portion of the cow is mine. I can do anything. That is
ouragreement, said Abraham.

Ali could not say anything. Finally he agreed to share the money.
Abraham said, Not just money. You must also share the work of feeding
and taking care of the cow too. Ali agreed.

With regard to the tree, Ali had taken upper part of the tree. He made
holes on the upper part of the tree. A kind of sweet-smelling juice came
out of these holes. The juice was collected in pots. These pots were kept
near the holes. Ali sold the juice for money. But he did not share either
the money or the juice with his brother.

Again the wise man advised Abraham. The next day Ali was on the top of
the tree. He was fixing pots near the holes. At that time Abraham was
cutting the lower part of the tree. Ali shouted at Abraham. But Abraham
reminded Ali about the agreement. He said, I can do anything with my
part. You can not question or stop me.

Ali now realized his mistakes. He said, Abraham, I have been a bad
brother to you. I feel ashamed of my selfishness. I ask your pardon. I
promise to look after you well hereafter.

And so he did. Both the brothers lived happily. They shared the profit.
