Our booth at the North AmericanChristian Convention, July 10-13,1990, Kansas City,
Missouri, afforded us a wonderful opportunity to greet old friends and to make many
new ones for the mission.
In Retrospect
We closed 1990 with our first mission trip to New Zealand and
Australia in September and October, then revivals among the
churches of Morgan County, Illinois (Jacksonville) and an IDES
Board of Directors' meeting in November, ending with preaching in
Rorida churches in December.
In January, two days were spent on the Campus of Kentucky Chris
tian College, leading in the Mid-term Faith Promise Mission Renewal
program, Crayson, Kentucky.
We were forced to cancel our planned Christian Leadership Training
mission to Surinam, South America, due to the poiiticai/military
coup, but were able to go into Guyana, South America, a week ear
lier than scheduled for evangelism and leadership training. Short
visits were also made among the churches on Barbados and St Yin-
cent
We shared in two Faith Promise mission programs in Florida, with
First Christian Church, Lake Wales (our home church), and Crystal
River Christian Church, Robert Hargrave, Minister, in February and
March. Both churches surpassed their Faith Promise goals.
Due to the serious security risks in several areas of the Philippines,
Jack Howard, Minister of Central Christian Church, Charleston, Illi
nois, and I had to postpone our trip to the Philippines (March 18
April 18) to a later date - hopefully in early 1992. Instead, I
scheduled speaking engagements in March and April in the follow
ing churches, all in Illinois: Sailor Springs; Red Brush, R.F.D.
Louisville; Pana; Louisville; Alma; North Harter, Flora; Brown
church. Kinmundy; Effingham; Enfleld; KInmundy; Hebron Road,
R.F.D., Robinson.

April 12, 1991
Among the most exciting events of the 20th Century are those that have taken place in eastern Europe within the
last two years. After more than 70 years of the blight and curse of communism In Russia, and 45 years of Its
throttle of the human spirit, heart, life and economy of much of the rest of eastern Europe, the chains are being
broken. Symbolized best by the destruction of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the IRON CURTAIN is almost rusted
through and the barbed wire borders, ruthlessly guarded by the hated military police, are now open to trade and
tourism, but most importantly to the Gospel.
No effort has been more effective in establishing beachheads for the Gospel and the Church of Christ In eastern
Europe than TCM (TAKING CHRIST TO THE MILLIONS). Once called TORONTO CHRISTIAN MISSION, TCM has
been the leader among our people in faithfully and patiently witnessing In eastern Europe since 1963. HAUS
EDELWEISS was purchased in 1975 near Vienna, Austria, as the center of Evangelism and Christian Leadership
Training. When the curtain falls on the 20th Century andfuture generations study Church History, the influence of
TCM will shine across its pages like a beacon light.
What a privilege Eileen and I have In the summer of 1991. We have been invited by TCM to spend the months of
July and August in a teaching ministry in HAUS EDELWEISS. We will share in the Seminars with Dr. Marion Hen
derson (Lincoln Christian College; past-president, Florida Christian College) and Dr. Alger Fitch (Pacific Christian
College, Fullerton, California).
Poland, historically Roman Catholic, and just now emerging from 45 years of communist oppression and the gall of
totalitarianism, is wide open for New Testament evangelism. Its borders are open; a Visa is not now required for
American citizens. What an opportunity! Rarely have I been so excited or more avidly looking forward to such an
adventure. I will be teaching Polish Bible students the Gospel of John and the Johanlnne Epistles the month of
July.
Czechoslovakia, carved out of the borders of central Europe, was born a nation after World War I, but the midnight
gloom of communism and the domination of Red Russia fell on it at the end of World War II. As In much of the
rest of eastern Europe the pall Is lifting, the gates are ajar andthe borders are open. Freedom has come. Denied
it for 45 years, the Czechs are hungry and eager to be taught the truth. Perhaps never again, certainly not In our
lifetime, will we have such an opportunity to take them the "sweets of New Testament Christianity." Deeply
religious by nature, they are open to receive the non-sectarian, undenominational message, the "unsearchable
riches of Christ." I will be teaching a hall full of Czech students the Gospel of John and l-ll-lll John the month of
August. I can hardly wait!
Now, how can we go? That is easy - Just call a Travel Agency, which will then make all the necessary ar
rangements and reservations; then go by, pick up the tickets and "away we go." But, the round-trip fares
(Orlando to Munich, Germany to Vienna, Austria to Budapest, Hungary) will cost $1,000.00 each, plus an addi
tional $500.00 each for ground travel and related expenses.
The $3,000.00 out-of-pocket moneyIs more than we can possibly afford. We can manage the normal expenses In
curred as guests In HAUS EDELWEISS. We will have enoughfor Incidentals and other expenses germane to travel
anywhere. But we won't have the $3,000.00 up-front cash for the fares. June 15, 1991 Is the deadline for the
ticket purchase. We are scheduled to leave Orlando July 1 at 2:35 p.m. via Delta Airlines and connect with
Lufthansa Airways, departing JFK, New York at 6:00 p.m. for Munich, Germany, with scheduled return to Orlando
Sunday, August 25.
We can't go unless we are sent. Hey, that sounds like Paul In Romans 10:13-15, doesn't It? "Everyone who calls
uponthe nameof the Lord will be saved. How, then, can theycall on the one they have not believed In? And how
can they believe In the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to
them? And how can thev preach unless thev are sent?" (NIV)
We are askingyou, dear friends, to help us with our ticket purchase. We ask you to pray and then determine In
your heart how much you are willing to share. Your contribution may be sent, payable to INTERNATIONAL
CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES, PC Box 848, Lake Wales, Rorlda, 33859, and designated Debault EuropeTravel. Even If
we are "on the road" (and we will be), our Forwarding Agent, Mrs. Louise Garden promptly handles the mission
mall and does the banking.
This Is sent with a prayer for you and we trust you will "wrapyour gift"with prayerto helpus on our journey. As
Jesus went to the Cross for us, we would like to go aaoss the sea for HIM.
