General Information
OIC International Mission
The mission of OIC International is to improve the quality of life of low-income,
disadvantaged individuals in developing countries through sustainable human resource
development. OICIs wor! around the world has focused on training the least-
educated, most socially and economically underprivileged youth and adults, increasing
their incomes, and turning them into productive employable or self-employed
members of their communities.
Staff
OIC International currently has "# full-time staff on its headquarters payroll.
$rograms in Guinea have a staff of #%, programs in &igeria have '", and programs in
Ghana have almost %((. The balance of our programs are e)ecuted by contractors and
&GO partners as described below. OIC International has a volunteer *oard of
+irectors with a current membership of eight. ,e have hundreds of additional
program volunteers who perform services for periods ranging from a few wee!s to
many months.
Partnerships and OICI Philosophy
OIC International believes that every component of an integrated development pro-ect
should be implemented by the organi.ation with the most relevant e)perience and the
most established presence in the area. /or this reason, many of our programs are
implemented through e)tensive partnerships with organi.ations spanning the spectrum
from large international &GOs to small local associations. OICIs distinctions in the
field of international development are a holistic, integrated approach to pro-ect design
and an emphasis on transfer of capacity, the cornerstone of the self-help philosophy of
/ounder 0eon 1ullivan.

2+32 Ghana hosts OICI /armer-to-/armer volunteers in the area of /ood $rocessing,
6alue-added services and 7ar!eting to assist with training. OICI is also partnering with
2+32 in implementing the Ghana 8nhance food security initiative.

28+ is bringing its considerable e)pertise to developing education materials for OICI9s
Ghana :O$8 program by helping to developing :I6;2I+1 care support guides.

2gribusiness in 1ustainable &atural 2frican $lant $roducts 421&2$$5
21&2$$ is wor!ing in Ghana to help create and develop successful 2frican
agribusinesses in the natural plant products sector. 21&2$$ is hosting /armer-to-/armer
volunteers so that :erbs;7edicinal $lant 1pecialists can assist beneficiaries by
introducing them to herb varieties, uses, transformation of herbs, and the promotion and
sales strategies of medicinal products.

C238 is currently wor!ing in 7ali to create sustainable socio-economic development in
communities. C238 hosts OICI /armer-to-/armer volunteers for its initiatives that aim
to improve the mar!eting and production of farm products. C238 is also helping to
develop :I6;2I+1 care guides for OICI9s Ghana :O$8 program.

Catholic 3elief 1ervices 4C315
C31 is currently helping to construct borehole wells as part of OICI9s Ghana 8nhance
food security initiative< borehole wells are instrumental in bringing clean water to rural
communities. C31 is also helping to develop :I6;2I+1 care guides for OICI9s Ghana
:O$8 initiative.

Counterpart International
Counterpart International is providing !ey medical e)pertise in helping to implement the
maternal and child nutrition component of OICI9s Ghana 8nhance food security initiative.

8nterprise,or!s;6ita
8nterprise,or!s;6ita is providing its !ey technical assistance in implementing the
microirrigation component of OICI9s Ghana 8nhance food security initiative.
7icroirrigation brings irrigation technology to farmers who would typically not have the
capacity to access irrigation technologies 4such as subsistence farmers5.

:eifer International
:eifer International is helping to integrate improved livestoc! breeds into local farming
systems for OICI9s Ghana 8nhance food security initiative. The organi.ation is also
helping to distribute vitamin 2 tablets along with deworming medication for a component
of OICI9s Guinea /ood = 0ivelihood 1ecurity pro-ect.
082$ 2frica
082$ is an international &GO headquartered in 0agos, &igeria that equips youth with
leadership s!ills. 082$ has helped to train staff involved in OICI9s &igeria >O*1
program, and has also provided s!ills and health leadership training to ?(( youth enrolled
in OICI9s program.

$O2 has over a decade9s worth of e)perience in implementing a @12I+ /armer-to-
/armer program. 3ecogni.ing that $O2 is an e)ceptional resource institution, OICI has
partnered with the organi.ation. $O2 is providing assistance to OICI9s /armer-to-/armer
program in technical and mentoring capacities.

,orld /ood $rogramme
The @nited &ations ,orld /ood $rogramme is providing food aid assistance to food
insecure communities in Ghana as part of OICI9s Ghana 8nhance food security initiative.
,orld 6ision
,orld 6ision is helping to construct borehole wells for OICI9s Ghana 8nhance programs<
these wells are critical in bring clean water to rural communities.

OIC 8thiopia
OICI9s local affiliate in 8thiopia, OIC 8thiopia, is currently providing s!ills development
services to OICI9s 7itigating Conflict and 2dolescent 3eproductive :ealth pro-ects in
8thiopia.

The 2ddis 2baba Chamber of Commerce
OICI wor!s with the Chamber of Commerce in its 7itigating Conflict program to help
establish possible employment and apprenticeship lin!ages between its students and local
businesses.

The 2ddis 2baba Credit and 1avings Institution
OICI9s 7itigating Conflict program in 8thiopia is wor!ing with this institution to help
graduates of the s!ills training component of the program access the necessary credit
should they want to start their own small businesses.

GANA
/armers 1upportive 1ervices and Community @tilities 4/21C@5
/21C@ aims to improve the quality of life of poor rural farmers through training in
agricultural production, processing, mar!eting and entrepreneur activities and
development. /21C@ hosts OICI /armer-to-/armer volunteers who provide training to
the groups beneficiaries.

OICI9s Ghana :O$8 program is currently wor!ing with local orphanages and foster
homes in Ghana in order to assist them in providing proper support and nutritious meals
to youth orphaned by :I6;2I+1. The orphanages and foster homes that OICI is

Ghana /ederation of Traditional 7edicine $ractitioners
OICI9s Ghana :O$8 $rogram is wor!ing with this association to ensure they have the
proper materials and capacity to offer effective :I6;2I+1 education and support to their
members.

7ushroom $roducers 2ssociation
The group engages in the production, training and sales of edible mushrooms and
sustainable compost bags. The group hosts OICI /armer-to-/armer volunteers so that
they can assist in product development strategies for product design and usage.

&orthern 3egional Traditional :ealers = 7edicinal $lant Growers9 2ssociation
This association is made up of spiritual healers, herbalists, and traditional birth
attendants. The group see!s to improve the mode of practice of traditional medicine by
the adoption of codes of conduct and practice. The group hosts /armer-to-/armer
volunteers who provide assistance in agricultural mar!eting.

OIC Ghana
OICI9s local affiliate, OIC Ghana, is currently providing s!ills development and
counseling services to youth orphaned by :I6;2I+1 as part of OICI9s Ghana :O$8
program.

/outa /armer /ederation
This federation is well !nown in the international &GO community because of their
strong capacity of organi.ing farmers in the 7iddle Guinea and providing them with
improved seeds, fertili.ers and technical assistance. The federation hosts OICI /armer-
to-/armer volunteers who provide technical assistance to their wide range of farmer
initiatives.

7alian 2ssociation for the Conservation of the /auna and the 8nvironment 427C/85
The 27C/8 wor!s to promote the sustainable management of renewable natural
resources through mobili.ation, sensiti.ation and education. The association hosts OICI
/armer-to-/armer volunteers who provides training to beneficiaries in natural resource
management.

OIC 7ali
OICI9s local affiliate in 7ali wor!s to increase women9s income through mar!et
gardening operations and to develop gardening activities and eudcation services. OIC
7ali hosts OICI /armer-to-/armer volunteers who provide training to women
beneficiaries in how to effective start, manage and mar!et their small farming enterprises.

NIGERIA
*etem 7ushroom Growers Cooperative 2ssociation
This cooperative wor!s e)tensively with its members to enhance their capability to
increase their mushroom production and mar!eting capacity. The cooperative hosts OICI
/armer-to-/armer volunteers with e)pertise in mushroom production and cultivation.

Community $articipation for 2ction in the 1ocial 1ector 4CO7$2115
CO7$211 aims to create an environment in which all &igerians are involved in
learning, planning and improving health and education in their communities. OICI is
helping to provide CO7$2119s pro-ect beneficaries, particularly those who have been
affected by polio, with entrepreneurship, life s!ills and vocational training.

I** is a local community-building organi.ation in Cano that wor!s to economically
empower women. OICI9s &igeria >O*1 program has provided entrepreneurial and
vocational s!ills training to over ?,((( women from the I**.

Gawo ,omen 8mpowerment 2ssociation
The Gawo ,omen 8mpowerment 2ssociation is an organi.ation that wor!s to promote
gender-equality through poverty alleviation, s!ills acquistion and income generation
activities. OICI9s &igeria >O*1 program has provided entrepreneurial and vocational
s!ills training to over "(( women from the Gawo 2ssociation.

Gidauniyar 2lheri
This national &GO provides human resource development training to youth in &igeria,
and particularly in Cano 1tate. OICI has trained some of their staff in microenterprise
development, and they now assist in providing microenterprise training to OICI9s &igeria
>O*1 beneficiaries.

Global :I6;2I+1 Initiative &igeria
This five-year pro-ect aims to rapidly strengthen and e)paind :I6;2I+1 services in
&igeria. OICI9s &igeria >O*1 program will provide this organi.ation9s beneficiaries with
microenterprise assistance, life s!ills and vocational s!ills training.

1/: is the local affiliate of $opulation 1ervices Interantional. OICI is collaborating with
1/: in order to provide road transport wor!ers, out-of-school youths and female se)
wor!ers with microenterprise, life s!ills and vocational s!ills training.

,omen +evelopment Initiative 4,+I5
,+I provides microcredit support to women and youth interested in establishing small-
scale businesses in Cano 1tate. ,+I provides loans to microenterprise graduates as part
of OICI9s &igeria >O*1 program
