Paul Holland held the Frederic M. Lord Chair in Measurement
and Statistics at Educational Testing Service (ETS) where he has worked in research for many years. He has held faculty positions at the Graduate School of Education, University of California Berkeley (1993-2000) and the Harvard Department of Statistics (1966-1972). Holland has wide interests in the application of statistics to the social, behavioral and educational sciences. His major research contributions are in the following areas: Statistical models for social networks The analysis of multivariate categorical data Causal inference in experimental and non-experimental research The foundations and computations of item response theory Test equating and Diferential Item Functioning ("item bias"). He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as an elected Member of the International Statistical Institute and a past president of the Psychometric Society (1989-90). He was awarded the (AERA/ACT) E. F. Lindquist Award in 2000. Holland received an MA and Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University and BA in Mathematics from the University of Michigan. International Workshop INTRODUCTION MIMOS, in organising the frst of a series of workshops on psychometrics, is proud to welcome the expertise of global research and assessments organisation, Educational Testing Service (ETS). With ETS vast experience and expertise in the assessment feld, it is hoped that these workshops will help in raising interest towards psychometrics, the sharing of knowledge and more importantly, to underline the importance of quality assessments. These workshops, to be conducted by experts from ETS diverse portfolios, will cover the processes of test development, item writing and scoring rubrics, psychometrics principles, item response theory plus standards-setting and reporting of results. PSYCHOMETRICS CLUSTER The MIMOS Psychometrics Cluster is a pioneering institution in the feld of psychometrics in Malaysia. It aims to be a cutting-edge research and development centre for psychometrics-related technologies. It will review the diferent procedures available, mainly observed score equating and item response theory equating, and will present and discuss the assumptions and advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods. Course outline 1. Principles of test equating, linking and scaling . Observed score equating . Item response theory 2. Assumptions 3. Advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods 4. Selecting a scale for reporting . Assumptions . Advantages and disadvantages Who | should attend This workshop is designed for those with little or no knowledge of test equating, linking and scaling in educational and psychological testing. Educators, practitioners, researchers and students will learn the methodologies to ensure that scores from multiple test forms can be used interchangeably, how to relate scores from two or more tests, and how to report scores on standardized tests.
