We continue to work on a list of things that need to be done
around DRUMC. The yard crew has fixed the water valves and timer so that our yard on our corner will return to green. A short discussion was started about changing to a more drought-friendly landscape. The parsonage hill was very overgrown with dead brush and palm trees. We decided to hire Luis Palacios and boys to remove 1.6 tons of debris and take it all to the dump. The backyard looks a thousand percent better and is ready for the next step. The needs of our summer program, Happy Days and Summer Nights, will be met over the next few weeks. We continue to have some strange events at DRUMC like missing paper towels, doors open, lights on. If you find any of these things happening please lock, turn off or secure our building for another day. Board of Trustees Next meeting - July 7 at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Reappointed Pastor Reappointed I am very pleased to announce that Bishop Minerva Carcano and the cabinet of our Conference have once again seen fit to appoint me as Pastor of Del Rosa and Emmanuel United Methodist Churches. This marks the beginning of my second year in this dual appointment. My wife Arthur and I love the people of our two church families and we are very happy to be able to continue serving among you. The first year was a time of getting to know the family and making adjustments to one another. Although Id already served Emmanuel for the previous three years, going to half-time signaled a new relationship with the church. And, for Del Rosa, having to share a Pastor for the first time in its history was a new, and for some, a difficult adjustment. Both Emmanuel and Del Rosa are great congregations; each with a long and very proud history of Christian ministry and service. But each church has also experienced decline in recent years; hence the two-point charge. My Objective My Objective My objective as pastor is to strengthen each congregation to the point that it is once again vital, alive, and able to stand independently. Together we can accomplish that goal. But we cannot do it by focusing on the negative. That is, we cant just keep going around complaining about what we dont have: the members that we dont have, the ministries we dont have, the finances we dont have. Instead, lets begin to praise God for what we do have: faith in God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Eph. 3:20) When I was in high school I competed in the Optimist International Oratorical Contest an experience that changed my life. The Theme for the competition that year was Optimism: Youths Greatest Asset. More important than the trophies and victories, I learned about hope in the face of challenges. Attitude shapes destiny! That is true for individuals, families, companies, communities and churches. Its easy to sink into despair when things seem to sour in our lives. But God is greater than our fears and our failures. The God who stepped out into the void and created the universe out of nothing is surely able to revive and restore us. So as we begin the journey of this new Conference year together, let us renew and celebrate our faith in the one who said, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Mt 7:7) Pastor Hilly METHODIST MEN Because of Gods great blessings, the Methodist Men are able to start a new ministryTHE EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP MINISTRY. This ministry is for those who are seeking a higher education and need some financial assistance. We are in the beginning stages. A scholarship committee will be working on setting the criteria and guidelines for this scholarship. Details to come. July 18-20 School of Christian Mission @ Biola In May we spent more than we received but received more than we spent for 2014. (We paid an extra payment toward Benevolences, see below) It continues to be a good year, despite having fewer members and fewer pledges. We have received rent from CGP and the parsonage of $15,600 which is a big help. Our goal this year is to raise $160,194. That is $13,350 per month; $66,750 through May, Through May we raised $72,495, $5,745 more than our goal. This puts us ahead of our goal! As for 2014 Apportionments & Benevolences our goal is to pay $19,932, 100% of our conference asking. To date we have paid $9,017 or over 45%. This includes the $5,593 Finance Committee voted to send as an extra payment. We are within $10,915 of our goal. This month (July) we have our major fundraiser; the Fireworks Booth. Please come out and support it!!! It is held July 1-4; only 4 days.

We sincerely apologize for not having acknowledged this very special occasion in last months newsletter. New East District Superintendant, REV. JAN WILEY, will begin July 1. We encourage you to read them and bookmark the web site, delrosaunitedmethodistchurch.org. We were sad to hear that LOYCE CRUTCHFIELDs sister passed away on June 18. LOYCE was very close to her and considered her to be not only her sister but her best friend. Please keep LOYCE in you prayers as she goes through this difficult time. We have several members who are unable to attend church for various reasons. If you are able, call them up and offer them a ride to church. We miss seeing them on Sundays. If youre unaware of who these members are, call the church office if you think you would be able to provide transportation. Its camp time again. Please keep all the kids who are going to the different camps this summer in your thoughts. Pray that t hey would be come back with a greater knowledge of our God. And pray for their safe keeping while theyre away from their families. It was the week of Annual Conference and REV. SANGMAN SHIN stopped by to pay a visit! It was wonderful to see him and hear about how things are going in Hawaii. PHILLIP is back on the mainland living with a roommate and looking for work. We miss them all.
