Under The Sea
The program contained within this section is designed to be broken into weekly
meetings. You may find that a particular section could cover more than one mob
meeting, with its crafts and games. This is completely in your hands as the Joey
Leader.
Other suggested activities include:
A visit to the beach where the Joeys collect shells to make jewellery,
wall hangings, shell creatures from.
A visit to an Aquarium
A visit to your mob by a local person who has knowledge about the
ocean maybe a Lifesaver, discussing surf rescue, someone who has
an interest and knowledge of fish life ( even a parent with an
aquarium can be a bundle of information!!) an oceanographer, a scuba
diving enthusiast. You are only limited by your imagination.
Visit the local library and find information about King Neptune and his
friends local librarians can be lots of help with activities to help the
children and stories.
A fancy dress night and the theme Under the Sea

All begin by boarding a yellow submarine and travel to our undersea destination

Octopus Garden
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.

Yellow Submarine

Beatles/52EEBAD13A32818948256BC20013C0D0
In the town where I was born,
Lived a man who sailed to sea,
And he told us of his life,
In the land of submarines,

So we sailed on to the sun,
Till we found the sea green,
And we lived beneath the waves,
In our yellow submarine,

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

And our friends are all aboard,
Many more of them live next door,
And the band begins to play.

(Trumpets play)

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

(Full speed ahead, Mr. Barkley, full speed ahead!
Full speed over here, sir!
All together! All together!
Aye, aye, sir, fire!
Captain! Captain!)

As we live a life of ease(life of ease)
Every one of us(every one of us) has all we need,(has all we need)
Sky of blue,(sky of blue) and sea green,(sea of green)
In our yellow(In our yellow) submarine.(submarine) ( Haha! )

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

(fading)

We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine,
We all live in yellow submarine,
yellow submarine, yellow submarine.

the back, fins on the top and bottom, eyes on the face and heart shaped
mouth on front)

Rainbow Fish Craft

1/2 inch or so bits of various colour tissue paper or construction paper (we
used tissue paper in the photo above).
small amount of tinfoil
thin strips of various colour tissue paper or construction paper
one big blue piece of tissue or construction paper OR a blue marker or
crayon
glue
scissors
INSTRUCTIONS:
print rainbow fish template (or draw the outline of a fish on a piece of
paper)

It doesn't have to be perfect as we're going to cut out the fish at the end.

glue strips of various colour tissue or construction paper on the fins and tail
(see photo).

glue 1/2 inch (ish) squares of tissue paper or construction paper onto the
body.

glue a few strips and 1/2 inch squares of tinfoil over the fish (or just glue
on one square scale to show Rainbow Fish after he shared).

Cut out along the lines (if you used tissue paper you'll be able to see the
lines through it... if you used construction paper, just estimate where the
lines are). This step will require adult assistance for younger children.

Cut out the mouth and eye and glue them onto the head. (you can colour
them in with markers if you wish.)

Whale Paper Craft
Materials:
Scissors
Square paper
for decorating:
wiggly eyes

The first fold is from one corner to another

Use the scissors to cut a 2.5cm slit from one
corner along the fold. This is ultimately be
used for the whale's tail.

The second step is to fold the other two
corners over to the centre of the paper. The
edge of the paper should line up with the first
fold.

The third step is folding the top corner down to
meet the edge of the paper from the second
fold. Sort of like a dog ear.

the fourth fold is repeating the first fold and
folding the entire project in half again.

On the pointed end (where you made the slit in
step one) fold the two halves to the outside to
create the tail for step 5.

The sixth and final fold is sort of on an angle
and works to raise the tail up above the back
of your whale.

Take some time to decorate your whale. You can use googly eyes or draw
the eyes on your whale, colour it, make polka dots with a dauber or
whatever you see fit!

Have fun!!

Sticky tape or glue the flippers to the paperbag
You can poke a hole in the top of the bag with a pencil and squish the

Paper plate Port Hole

2 paper plates
Silver craft paint
8 pieces of ring shaped cereal
Fish-shaped crackers
Silk plant leaves
Sea shells
Sand
White craft glue
Blue cellophane
Wax paper
Scissors

How to make it:
1. Take both paper plates and set them on the table. One should be right side
up and the other should be upside down.
2. On the plate that is right side up, draw your sea floor about 1/3 up the
center of the plate.
3. Line the floor area with white glue, use an old paintbrush or your finger to
spread the glue out evenly.
4. Cover the wet glue with sand and set aside to dry.
5. On the upside down plate, draw a circle where you will cut out your porthole
in the center of the plate.
6. Glue ring shaped cereal pieces around the circle; these are the bolts on the
porthole. Let dry.
7. Paint the cereal pieces and the paper plate from the outer edge to your
penciled lines. Dont worry about painting over the lines a little, as you will
be cutting it out. Set aside to dry.
8. Take the paper plate with the sand on it and hold it over a sheet of wax
paper. Turn the plate sideways and gently tap it to loosen any excess sand.
The sand should end up on the wax paper and you can save that for another
project.
9. Glue sea life onto the plate with the sand floor. Glue on shells, silk leaves,
and fish shaped crackers. Let dry.
10. Take the silver painted plate and cut out the center circle to create
your porthole window. Place it gently over the top of the other plate to see if
you are happy with its size and viewing area. Increase size of the hole if you
like.
11. Turn silver plate upside down.
12. Cut a piece of blue cellophane large enough to cover the hole on the
plate and glue in place. Let dry.
13. Place porthole plate over the top of the sea life plate and glue
together. Let dry.
14. You can add a hanger to the project if you like, simply glue some
string or yarn between the two plates at the top during step 13.
Tips:
You can simplify the supplies in this project by using construction paper to
make fish, plants and even shells.
Make your fish scene more cartoonish by adding wiggle eyes to the fish.
If you dont have blue cellophane, use clear plastic wrap and paint the
background of the seal life plate blue before adding sand and sea creatures.
