ORAL INTERVIEW FOR UMC DECK AND ENGINE CADETS
#he followin" "uidelines have been desi"ned to assist test providers in
familiarizin" with the assessment of spea$in" and listenin" s$ills in conductin"
fairly and e%ciently the oral interview for En"ine and &ec$ adets at
Universidad Mar'tima del aribe who "o on their internships.
#his oral evaluation will serve as a benchmar$ for the identi(cation of the
pro(ciency in )eneral and Maritime En"lish with re"ard to the previous
mentioned s$ills* developed throu"hout their ma+ors. #his test relies on the
premise that for UM adets to master En"lish pro(ciency* they should handle
not only Maritime En"lish #erminolo"y but also )eneral En"lish ompetences.
,n reco"nition of this fact* the e-chan"e of information in this particular
conte-t is e-pected to include the combined listenin" and spea$in" s$ills where
test ta$ers will be e-pected to understand and communicate e.ectively in
En"lish. ,n other words* success in this assessment relies on listenin" carefully*
thin$in" critically and e-pressin" properly in oral form.
Re"ardin" #he or"anization of this evaluation* this consists of two main parts/
