"rime #nd Violence In The "entral #merica #nd The "aribbean
It is important for members of this family to realiNe that 7ithin our region of the 7orld,
crime and violence does not occur in the main because of a lack of 7ealth or 7idespread
hunger and poverty, but are in the main related to OaP the level of eJuity in the distribution

Trinidad and Tobago, Gl $alvador, the Bahamas and else7here confirms that 7here
people feel that they do not have a stake in things, 7here they are restricted to playing the
role of onlookers, the risk of deviancy and crime is much higher than in those countries
7here they have a real chance of getting a piece of the pie and have a real input in the

In short there has been a total disregard for the educational opportunities and privilege the
society has provided them 7ith, there has been a most blatant disregard of the enormous
sacrifices parents had to make to send these girls to school%
The message from the Boko -aran and possible the Nigerian 7omen is clear, in many
parts of 0frica and in 0sia the only education a young 7oman can reasonably e=pect to
have is that of 7ashing clothes, cooking, pleasing their husbands and breeding% The
opportunities and privileges 7hich so many of our young 7omen and girls have so

girls in 0frica and in 0sia%
For those of our young girls 7ho are of the firm belief that se=ual intercourse and the
opportunities for having such are about to run out and that men and penises 7ill be a
thing of the pastD the Boko -aran and many in that parts of the 7orld have corrected such
erroneous beliefs by removing the clitoris and further east in 0frica, the vagina 7ould be

It is important to condemn the kidnapping of over 866 school girls by the Boko -aran in
the clearest terms even as 7e must bring our o7n daughters and nieces to book% Their
scant respect for themselves, their 7illingness to e=pose their nakedness to the 7orld,

!y nieces and nephe(s avoid the shado(s
My young nieces and nephe7s, I have learnt in a most brutal 7ay to avoid the shado7s%
There are times in life 7hen 7e believe that some things should be done or that things
could be done in a better 7ay, but because of our fear of ?going up front@ 7ith or vie7s,
because of fear of taking on responsibilities for others or simple to live a peaceful life, 7e
seek to act through others, 7e try to push up front others 7hose vie7s and positions 7e
think that 7e can influence, thus occupying a position in the shado7s%
It has been my e=perience, that such an approach does not at all times 7ork, and in fact
although 7e may run for years from taking positions of responsibility, although 7e may
seek to beat the Gthiopians and Benyans in long distance running, in the end 7e are
brought back to the very start and forced to move for7ard and occupy those positions
7hich in the past 7hich 7e sought to avoid%
There are many young 4avids among the Fletchers, and they should recall that 4avid did

lesson for the young among us% -ere I have enough e=perience to speak 7ith authority on
