PRESTRESSING (POST TENSIONED) CONCRETE SOFTWARE DESIGN WORKSHOP

12.30 1.30 LUNCH - (Provided at Venue)

1.30 3.00 SESSION 3 PT Industrial Slabs on Ground
Designing industrial slabs on ground is a specialised PT area
therefore this session will address the formulas and methods
associated with stressing slabs on the ground.
It will address soil friction values, the various applied loads,
general restraints, total loss of prestress and how to measure
this on site.
The session will then use a new program called PTsog to speed
up the process of design but again provide simple and useful
graphical images to allow the designer to understand what is
happening during the design process.
3.00 3.30 Afternoon Tea
3.30 5.00 SESSION 4 PT Tanks
This session will address all the formulas associated with
stressing a post tensioned tank (either in situ design or precast
design). The design of tanks is quite a complex process so
engineers really need to understand PT in order to design
correctly. This is why the presenter will be very thorough in
his explanation of all the steps and reasons for making certain
choices before embarking on the full design
The session will then use a powerful (but user friendly) program
called PTtank to speed up the process of design. This program
calculates the effects of liquid pressure, temperature effects,
earthquake, soil pressure etc. it then provides the designer with
the size of tendons and spacing both vertically and horizontally
in the walls (and foors).
5.00 5.15 Feedback Sheets & Certifcates of Attendance
THE WORKSHOP
This new PT software workshop will allow structural/civil engineers
to design PT structures quickly whilst still understanding the
processes involved via a more interactive input of data and
output of results.
Some software programs today have become so sophisticated
that the design engineer has no real feel for the processes carried
out by the program and thus has to rely on the correctness of its
output.
For this reason CCS is introducing this new course which will
be a logical follow on from the standard two day Prestressed
Concrete Design Workshop that CCS has conducted over the
past 10 years.
The course will be broken up into specifc sessions addressing
various areas of prestressed concrete (ie primarily post
tensioning) .
Each attendee will be issued with a dongle on the day with the
programs to be used in the workshop. Please note that these
programs will be deactivated at the end of the course.
However if attendees are interested in purchasing the relatively
inexpensive programs for their offce this can be discussed with
the presenter.
PROGRAMME
8.30 9.00 Registration
9.00 9.10 INTRODUCTION
9.10 10.30 SESSION 1 General PT Design
This session will start with basics of prestressing and the
formulas upon which the design is based.
The presenter will outline the materials used (eg 12.7 mm vs 15.2
mm PT strand), grades of concrete chosen for PT specifcally,
Australian Standards requirements for design and so on.
Much of this information will be referenced from the HELP
section of the various PT programs available from this speaker
eg PROFILE.
10.30 11.00 Morning Tea
11.00 12.30 SESSION 2 Suspended PT Slabs and Beams
Once the attendees have had a refresher in PT design, then
the presenter will explain the basics of designing PT beams and
suspended slabs in buildings.
He will then use an effcient but simple program called EFNG to
speed up the design process. This program allows the designer
the ability to size up beams and slabs and the necessary
tendons and reinforcement requirements to satisfy the applied
loads, minimum P/A requirements minimum radius of curvature
for tendons and so on for a PT system.
Clear graphical outputs gives the designer a step by step
understanding of the processes carried out by the program. The
program also does a fnal estimation of the quantities of materials
required to allow for a more accurate costing estimation.
Professional Development
Attendees may be credited towards IEAust Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) requirements. Members of IEAust are required to
undertake a minimum of 150 hours of equivalent CPD every 3 years.
