The question of whether America in mentioned in the Bible

The scripture that lies at the root of the question

A number of people recently have wondered whether America is mentioned in the Bible.
The short answer is yes it is, but not directly.

To see the connection you have to go back to the account in Genesis chapter 48 when
J acob as he was nearing the end of his life, blessed J osephs sons, Ephraim and Manasseh.
The interesting bit is shown in verses 12 to 20 below

Genesis 48:12-20 (NIV) 12 Then Joseph removed them from Israel's knees and bowed
down with his face to the ground. 13 And Joseph took both of them, Ephraim on his
right toward Israel's left hand and Manasseh on his left toward Israel's right hand,
and brought them close to him. 14 But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on
Ephraim's head, though he was the younger, and crossing his arms, he put his left
hand on Manasseh's head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.

15 Then he blessed Joseph and said, "May the God before whom my fathers Abraham
and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,
16 the Angel who has delivered me from all harm may he bless these boys. May they
be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they
increase greatly upon the earth."

17 When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim's head he was
displeased; so he took hold of his father's hand to move it from Ephraim's head to
Manasseh's head. 18 Joseph said to him, "No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put
your right hand on his head."

19 But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He too will become a
people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother (Ephraim) will
be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations."

The characteristics that modern-day Manasseh would have

As Christians we believe that the Bible is true, so then we must also believe that this
promise of God to J oseph about 3,500 years ago is also true. If this is the case, then in the
modern-day world we should see a series of nations that have the following characteristics.

A common language
A common ancestry
A common culture
These nations are likely to be prominent on the world scene as befits Gods people
and as clearly shown by the fact that the modern-day State of Israel, although it is small
geographically, it is huge on the international scene

Specifically, as the Whole House of Israel (all 12 tribes) is to be the national instrument
through which J esus rules the world (and later the entire universe) then the Israel
nations should figure prominently in Ezekiel chapter 38 where God says that He would
drag the nations that are led by Gog to the battle of Armageddon.

These nations should be able to be identified as a group that all share a common core of
characteristics that reflect their common ancestry AND they should also be organized
as:-

A group of nations with common ancestry and characteristics
A single great nation within that general grouping but one who stands out and
alone from the group as a whole e.g. a super power

The question as to whether we can find such nations in the world today

Many people have long believed despite the fact that the belief in based only on
circumstantial evidence that there is a clearly identifiable group of nations today that fit
the Biblical description.

The group of nations are those whose ancestry and culture derive from Britain. These
nations are Britain itself, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The grouping of
Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand formed the original national grouping known
as the British Commonwealth and now known in its expanded form as The
Commonwealth of Nations. The original British Commonwealth nations fit the description
of the descendents of the Ephraim line.

America has its ancestral, cultural and language origins in Britain. However, it went its
own way through independence and went on to become a great people (nation). It stands
today as the sole superpower and despite its many faults is still a light unto the nations of
freedom and prosperity. Among the nations of the world current world today, America
alone fits perfectly the Biblical description of the nation who would descend from
Manasseh. I say this as an Australian who lives in Australia not America, so I dont have
any personal interest in this matter.

The nation of Israel in the Bible

The preeminent place of Israel in Gods plan for the world

We now turn briefly to the three scriptures below:-

Psalms 114:2 (NIV) Judah became God's sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

Psalms 108:8 (NKJV) 8 Gilead is Mine; Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet
for my head; Judah is My lawgiver.

Isaiah 2:3 (NIV) 3 Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the
mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so
that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord
from Jerusalem.

These scriptures clearly show that the center of the worlds legal system will be located in
J erusalem under J esus during His millennial reign as Lord of lords and King of kings. But
they also talk of both Manasseh (the great nation) and Ephraim (the group of nations) as
well.

The OT nation of Israel splits into two nations

Now both the Bible and standard secular history record that the Old Testament nation of
Israel split into two sections in about 930 BC following the death of king Solomon. These
two kingdoms became the ten-tribed northern kingdom known as the House of Israel and
the southern two-tribed kingdom who were known as the House of J udah. The full twelve-
tribed combined nation of Israel was known as the Whole House of Israel.

History records that in about 721 BC the last of the northern ten tribes (the House of Israel)
were taken into captivity by the Assyrians and there were never any significant return of
these people to their home land of Israel. They are collectively called today the Ten Lost
Tribes.

A number of invasions by the Babylonians of the southern kingdom (House of J udah)
culminated in about 586 BC. Basically all of the people of the House of J udah were
deported to Babylon during these successive invasions. A small remnant only of these
people returned to Israel to rebuild the walls and the temple in readiness for the coming of
J esus. The main (significant) return from the Babylonian captivity happened in about 454
BC (approx) when Artaxerxes granted Nehemiah permission to rebuild the walls of
J erusalem (Nehemiah: 2:1-6). The total number of people who returned to Israel from the
Babylonian captivity has been set by various scholars at only about 50,000. The J ews of
today are the descendents of this group of about 50,000 Babylonian returnees

Now the facts of history are quite straight forward by far and away the majority of the
original O.T. Israelites vanished from history and we are left with about (according to the
Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics) 13,420,000 J ews worldwide in 2009 that have
descended from the original (about) 50,000 returnees from Babylon. Now given that the
northern kingdom (The House of Israel) had a much larger population (believed to
probably be in excess of 2 million) than the House of J udah then clearly the current day

population that has grown from the original Assyrian deportees must be substantially
larger than the total number of J ews in the world today. This is circumstantial evidence that
Britain, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand roughly fit the demographic profile
needed to describe the descendents of Ephraim and Manasseh.

Ezekiel chapter 37 the two Houses of Israel reunited in the End-times

As I said earlier, many people believe based on circumstantial evidence that the group
of nations whose ancestry and culture derive from Britain are in fact the modern day Israel
nations. These nations are Britain itself, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Its conspicuous that these nations in their modern form have only arisen in the last few
centuries. It is not my intention to delve too deeply into the history here just to look at the
main events and compare them to what the Bible says.

The rise of modern day Britain can probably be traced to the split when England broke
away from the Roman Catholic Church and created its own new body in 1534, The Church
of England.

England went on to become a major world power in military and commercial activities. It
also became a major exporter of Bibles and missionaries in the 1800s. It became a world
leader when it passed the Slavery Abolition Act 1833 that abolished slavery throughout
most of the British Empire. Britain also prominently figured in the re-establishment of the
modern day State of Israel (Biblical House of J udah. Ref J oel 3:1-2 below) with the
passing of the policy statement known as the Balfour Declaration of 1917 (2 November
1917) stating that:

His Majesty's government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national
home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the
achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which
may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in
Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

J oel 3:1-2 (NIV) 1 'In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah
and Jerusalem, 2 I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of
Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance,
my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my
land.

There were major flows from Britain of immigrants to Canada, Australia, New Zealand
and America. Despite all the many twists and turns along each of these countries paths of
historical development, the immigrant flows eventually resulted in these countries all being
strongly related culturally and politically to Britain.

America of course went on to become the sole world super-power today.

With the possible exception of Britain today, most of these other countries have a strong
affinity on the part of many people from their respective populations to the modern day
State of Israel. This affinity with Israel is not shared on the whole by many other
countries around the world. This affinity between large segments of the populations is what
we would expect to see between countries that fulfilled the OT prophecy relating to the
descendents of Ephraim and Manasseh.

More importantly all of the nations that I have talked about in this section, have only
arisen in the last few centuries. This accords with what Ezekiel chapter 37 says namely
that God was going to bring back to life the Whole House of Israel from the dead
(disappeared) nation of Israel and that this process would be done in the last days

Ezekiel 37:9-19 (NIV)

9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, '
This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and
breathe into these slain, that they may live.'" 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me,
and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet a vast army.

11 Then he said to me: "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They
say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.' 12 Therefore
prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I am
going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the
land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your
graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and
I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and
I have done it, declares the Lord.'"

15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 "Son of man, take a stick of wood and write
on it, 'Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.' Then take another
stick of wood, and write on it, 'Ephraim's stick, belonging to Joseph and all the
house of Israel associated with him.' 17 Join them together into one stick so that they
will become one in your hand.

18 "When your countrymen ask you, 'Won't you tell us what you mean by this?' 19 say
to them, 'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph
which is in Ephraim's hand and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and
join it to Judah's stick, making them a single stick of wood, and they will become one
in my hand.'

Now this is exactly what we have seen beginning over the last few hundred years we
have seen all of these Israel nations progressively resurrected even though most people
in those countries dont recognise their true heritage.

The final joining of the two sticks where the revived Israel nations are finally rejoined to
the House of J udah (the modern State of Israel) spoken of in verse 18 above has yet to take
place. This will occur after the Second Coming.

Ezekiel 38:1-13 (NIV)
38:1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of
the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him 3
and say: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince
of Meshech and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you
out with your whole army-your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde
with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and
Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops,
and Beth (house of) Togarmah from the far north with all its troops-the many nations
with you. 7 "`Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and
take command of them. 8 After many days you will be called to arms. In future years
you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from
many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had
been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety. 9 You and all
your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will
be like a cloud covering the land.

10 "`This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that day thoughts will come into your
mind and you will devise an evil scheme. 11 You will say, "I will invade a land of un-
walled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people-all of them living
without walls and without gates and bars. 12 I will plunder and loot and turn my hand
against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock
and goods, living at the center of the land."(See verse 12 also below) 13 Sheba and
Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, "Have you
come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold,
to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?" '

The identity of GOG

Gog is connected to the land of Magog, and is also the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal
and is to be the commander of Persia, Cush, Put, Gomer and (Beth) Togarmah in their
assault on Israel.

As the map below shows, all these Old Testament nations today include many dissimilar
modern nations. More to the point, any idea that they co-operate politically is laid to rest
when you read the daily newspapers from these countries. The largest national grouping
among them is the Arabs. The Arabs were struggling to even agree on the agenda for the
proposed Arab League annual summit to be held in Tunis on May 22-23, 2004. Tunisia
had already postponed the summit, which was originally due to be held in March 2004
after saying Arab countries had rejected essential proposals for democratic reform and the
empowerment of women.

The only common thread that binds all these countries together is Islam. The spirit of
Islam is what the majority of people in those countries respect and which they pay homage
to. Islam truly is the chief prince and the commander of any common action that
Islamic countries take. In the case of terrorism, it is militant Islam that is the cement that
binds the terrorists and their motives together and acts as the unifying leadership for their
actions. Thus Gog can be truly identified as the spirit underlying Islam particularly
militant Islam.



In the opening scene (Ezekiel 38:10-13) in the final act which culminates in Christs
return:

8. These people will beliving at the center of the world.(most American Bibles)
9. Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish say "Have you come to plunder?
e.g. they are asking a question they are puzzled. What was your motive? - was it for
profit? was there another motive? (the US) why do you hate us. You only have to
discuss the matter today to find out people are still asking Why (and there are still
just about as many different answers as there are people to give them)

Curious Facts about America

Some of the above points can be applied to the current state of Israel (who will be attacked
in the next and final phase Ref. Zechariah chapters 12 though 14)

However all of the above points (Ezek 38:10-13) can be applied to the attack on September
11, 2001 on America.

The evil scheme was an Islamic plot by Bin Laden against a rich, unsuspecting country
which was at the political centre of the world (e.g. the only super-power in the world
today). Bin Laden believes that the country that the Islamic world describes as the Great
Satan (US) is the main enemy of Islam. It had to be attacked in order to weaken its grip on
the rulers of Saudi Arabia, who as far as Bin Laden is concerned have corrupted Islam in
Saudi Arabia because of American influence. Mecca, in Saudi Arabia was the original
home of Islam. As such, militant Muslims believe that it is important to keep Saudi Arabia
from being contaminated by the Christian west.

It is striking that none of the nations mentioned in Ezek 38:1-6 are mentioned in verse 13.
Only Sheba & Dedan (Saudi Arabia), in addition to the merchants of Tarshish (Spain)
are named in verse 13 asking the question why did this happen what was your motive
After the attack the Saudis were asking, why did our nationals do this. Even more
striking is the fact that the merchants of Tarshish (Spain) are also said to be asking these
questions, because they were, and still are not, either an historical or obvious modern ally
of America.

It is conspicuous that these two countries then joined an otherwise predominantly Anglo-
Saxon alliance in the last war in Iraq. In Spains case it was open for all to see. Saudi
Arabia was more secretive in order not to antagonize the Saudi people.

Question: Was Sept 11 the opening scene of the final act that leads to Christs return?

South Eastern ancient Armenia, which extended from
the south-central Black Sea coast to the Caspian Sea

Biblical Sheba was a kingdom in pre-Islamic south-
western Arabia, frequently mentioned in the Bible and

century), was Ma'rib, which lies 75 miles (120 km)
east of present-day San'a', in Yemen

Summary of the 4 critical points of evidence

1. About 3,500 years ago the Bible records that, Genesis 48:19 (NIV) But his father
refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He too (Manasseh) will become a people,
and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother (Ephraim) will be
greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations."

Question does the Bible say this or not, and can such a grouping of nations be
found in the world today?

2. As recorded in Ezekiel 38:10-12 10 "`This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that

The hard cold facts of recent history records that this country was in fact America

Question was it America that was attacked or was it the modern day State of
Israel that was attacked (e.g. the modern day Biblical House of Judah (J oel 3:1-2)?

3. The hard cold facts as recorded by recent history, in newspapers, TV and the official
governmental records of all countries of this attack shows that while SOME ONLY of
the points that Ezekiel 38:10-13 uses to characterize and describe the nation who would
be attacked can be applied to the current State of Israel the fact remains that ALL of
the above points (Ezek 38:10-13) can ONLY be applied to the attack on September 11,
2001 on America.

Question Is this correct or not?

4. The Bible records in Ezekiel 38:1-6 (NIV) 38 The word of the Lord came to me: 2
"Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of
Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: 'This is what the Sovereign Lord
says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. 4 I WILL turn you
around, PUT HOOKS IN YOUR JAWS AND BRING YOU OUT WITH YOU
WHOLE ARMY your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with
large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush and Put
will be with them, all with shields and helmets, 6 also Gomer with all its troops, and
Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops the many nations with you.

NOTE all the nations mentioned here are Islamic and as verses 3 to 5 make clear,
these nations are being dragged by God Himself like a fish with a hook in its mouth to
a fate that they did not choose themselves (read 38:16-23 & chapter 39 to see that fate)
It is also the fact that the WHOLE nation of Israel was Gods chosen instrument
through which J esus would rule over the world, both during the millennium and on into

eternity. The hard cold facts of recent history now record that this Islamic attack on
America and the sole super-powers response in the form of the war on terror has
been responsible for the major events throughout the Middle East that have developed
to the current point that virtually all commentators on that region of the world are now
fully expecting a general regional war to break out soon and that the character of
that war as it is shaping up, is perfectly described in Zechariah chapters 12, 13 &
particularly 14.

Question If God rules over Israel and uses it as his national instrument of rule
over the entire world then is it not consistent that He would use America as one
of the Israel company of nations and particularly so as it is the only country
with the means to achieve it, e.g. total military domination in order to drag the
Islamic nations to Armageddon and the destruction of Islam?


If the answer to all four questions above is yes then surely this is strong circumstantial
evidence that America today is in fact the Biblical descendent of the OT Manasseh.
