1. The document provides analysis for basic rates for various items of work in building construction including excavation, brickwork, concrete, plastering, painting, flooring, roofing, etc. The analysis breaks down the rates into costs for materials, labour, transport, plant and overheads.
2. For excavation work, soils have been classified into soft-loose, ordinary, hard-dense, mud-wet clay, soft disintegrated rock, and hard rock. Analysis is provided for excavation in each soil type to a maximum depth of 1.5m, with additional labour required for deeper excavation.
3. The overhead and profit factor applied to the basic rates is 148.5%

Basic Rat The basic rate is analyzed under the following headings !a" Materials The quantities of material required for the items are computed from known data and e#perience. Their total value is calculated on the basis of current costs of purchase at sources of supply. $nless% otherwise stated wastage is allowed in the norms. !b" Transport This component provides for the cost of transport of material from sources of supply to the sites of work. This component is usually added to the material cost. !c" Labour The labour wages are as approve d by the &overnment from time to time and on the basis of an ' hour working day. !d" (lant This component provides for the minimum plant required for the items of work. The cost of tools and implements is provided for tin the overheads allowances. !e" Basic )ost The Basic )ost is the sum of the costs of items !a"% !b"% !c" * !d" above. 2 O!r"a# s $ %rofit factor +verhead costs include such cost that cannot be considered as direct productive work on the ,ob.
