CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
ORGANISATION FOR REPORT
The ndustres requre students who are taented n a respects. In the
present currcuum of Engneerng Educaton s a gap exstng between the students
and the ndustres. In order to brdge the gap , ndustra vsts are ncorporated to
the currcuum.
Industra vsts are very mportant for every student as t provdes a cear
pcture of the present scenaro and gude them n markng a brght future. The vsts
educate the students on accmatzng themseves to varous workng envronments.
Industra vsts/mpant tranng n the currcuum factate the students to be
expose to the ndustra ethcs. They earn about the work cuture and prncpes
whch hep n transformng themseves nto better professonas.
Industra vsts provde vta nformaton. It aso enabes to understand the
nterna workng envronment. These vst not ony gve exposure n academc pont
of vew, but aso enabes to nteract wth ndustra peope drecty.
Through these vsts the students become abreast wth the emergng trends
n technoogy and get traned to compement ther sks n future. The ack of ths
may deny the students an dea about the corporate word. Hence the currcuum
ays emphass on undergong ndustra vsts/mpant tranng.
It s antcpated that the ndustra vsts w have a number of advantages for
both the students and the companes nvoved.
Thrd year students w have the chance to vst a company they mght be
consderng for ther work experence ahead of the na year of ther course. Ths
makes them more aware of the operatons of the company.
Students are expected to understand to undertake a mnmum of 5 ndustra
vsts (promnent hardware/software deveopment concerns) or a mnmum of eght
weeks/60 days of ndustra tranng n ther course of study durng the 5
th
and 6
th
semesters. The students have to submt a report at the end of the 6
th
semester
pro|ectng the exposure he/she ganed durng ther respectve vsts/tranng. The
currcuum aso enforces the perusa of the report to be done by a pane of the stah
members for 50 marks. The proofs for havng undergone vsts/tranng are to be
cosed aong wth the reports as encosures.
Industres are chosen for ndustra vsts/tranng n the ed of Informaton
Technoogy and ts reated areas so that student gan knowedge and understand
the needs of technoogy that s vunerabe to changes. As a resut the students
equp themseves to meet these requrements. The ndustres are seected takng
nto account the reputaton and quaty management of the company.

customers pace to make the process of nstaaton easer.
A the above mentoned processes are undergone by a the products of HCL be t a
desktop or a aptop or a server wth sght changes. Thus the concern on the whoe
s ts entre process of producton and HCL tres to make ts product stand for ts
name.
MECHANICAL
The work of mechanca secton s to take care of components. They check whether
a the components functon propery whatever be the envronmenta condtons.
They nspect each and every cabnet for better functonng.
RELIA%ILITY
E. T(!:
In reabty usuay three tests w be carred on. They are ESD(Eectro Statc
Dscharge) test, Therma test and Drop test. The rst test s done usng a ESD guns.
(one gun produces 5kv and other produces 10kv ESD). The sharp end of the rst
gun s kept touchng the ends of CPU. Then the second gun s kept at a dstance of
3mm from the CPU. Durng the process the system s tested for dspay and
performance. If the system's performance remans the same they w proceed to
the next step ese they w make necessary modcatons.
T,(#4-* !(!:
Second test s a therma test. In ths test the system w be kept n a chamber
havng a temperature of 40 degree Cesus. The system's performance w be
anayzed. Ths s to check whether the system can wthstand varatons n
temperature. Insde the chamber the temperature of every component s measured
usng a scanner. The man am of ths test s to make the system t to be operated
at dherent temperatures.
D#"2 !(!:
The ast test s drop test. Frst the system s packed accordng to norms desgned by
PEG .Then the packed system s dropped down from a heght of 5 feet (usuay
dropped one tme by each face facng the ground). They aso ro the packed system
to some dstance. They then unpack the system and check for any damage and
agan anayze ts performance.
N"i( !(!:
It s a test carred on the system n ts workng envronment to check whether t
produced ess amount of nose whch s compatbe to the workng condtons.
DESKTOP
Ths team takes care of a the desktop components.
LAPTOPS
As t name mpes ts work s to take care of aptop components and software. Ths
secton s aso caed notebook. Here compacton matters a ot. The components
shoud be as sma as possbe and aso shoud be stabe. Then they match the
dherent OS wth the components and desgn the optma system.
SERVER
As we know server system s dherent from ordnary systems. They have 4 to 6 hard
dsks or even more accordng to the requrement. Aso the motherboard has two
processors for fast operaton. The conguraton of the server system shoud be such
that t shoud be abe to serve a ts cents fast. So the work of ths team s to
desgn a server accordng to the customers requrements.
%ENCH MARKING
The roe of the bench markng team s to set goas that need to be acheved by the
company. They desgn products such that they compete we wth ther compettors
and n whoe rase the market vaue of ther products.
MDP AND IIP
Ths s Mcrosoft Deveopment Programme and Inte Insde Programme.
The company s provded wth varous certcatons from eadng OS deveopment
concerns ke Mcrosoft and Lnux. In order to obtan these certcatons and be a
concern recognzed by the organzatons they need to foow varous gudenes
drawn out by the company. Ths part of the PEG s carred out by the certcatons
secton.
PERIPHERAL
The engneerng of the varous components of CPU s taken care by a the other
sectons .But t s the perphera secton that handes the process of anayzng the
varous perpheras used n the assembng of systems. It takes care about the
functonng of the keyboards, mouse, montors, prnters etc connected to the
system.
CERTIFICATIONS
In ths department the varous operatng systems ohered by the concerns ke
Mcrosoft and Lnux are tested. The varous conguratons requested by the users
are tested whether compatbe wth the operatng systems ohered and ther
performance s rated . After ths process ony the products become certed and
then they are submtted for approva to the OS provders ,ther consent puts the
product on manufacturng sector.

charge the hosptas the same rate as they dd n the past for hghy quaed
US transcrptonsts, but subcontract the work to non-US MTs, keepng the

2. There are concerns about patent prvacy, wth condenta reports gong

the countres that now outsource transcrpton work are the Unted States,
Brtan, and Austraa, wth work outsourced to Phppnes, Inda, Pakstan,

3. The ack of quaty n the nshed document s concernng. Many outsourced
