This document provides information about a 2-day training course on GPRS Protocols and Procedures. The course covers the GPRS network architecture, attach and PDP context activation procedures, and the air interface protocol stack. Day 1 focuses on these topics, while Day 2 provides additional details on radio resource allocation, BSS modifications, Gb interface protocols, and core network features. The course is recommended for operator and vendor personnel implementing and operating GPRS networks, as well as managers who need thorough GPRS system knowledge. Prerequisites include a basic knowledge of GSM, GPRS, and GPRS/EDGE technologies.

GPRS Protocols and Procedures GPRS is a packet-data transmission technique for mobile networks. This technique brings much exciting new potential to GSM systems. GPRS allows billing based on the actual volume of data transmitted, rather than on call duration. Network operators benefit from more efficient utilization of precious radio network resources. For the end user, GPRS eliminates most major drawbacks associated with traditional circuit-switched data services. Course description The Widermind GPRS Protocols and Procedures is a 2-day course. It is designed to provide firm knowledge of the GPRS protocol structure and the most important signaling procedures. Day 1 covers the network architecture, purpose and execution of GPRS Attach and PDP Context Activation procedures. The Air Interface protocol stack is presented from high application-data level down to bits in bursts layer 1. Day 2 provides additional details regarding radio resource allocation in traffic case GPRS attach. Day 2 also covers BSS modifications, the Gb-interface protocols and Core Network features. New technology for existing networks What are the benefits with GPRS? How does the READY-timer operate? Which protocol handles Attach Request? How does MS find the PBCCH? How is QoS negotiated? What is the significance of the USF-flag? What is handled by RADIUS and DHCP? Why is a Routing Area needed? What does the backbone protocol-stack look like? When does the MS inform the network of its multi-slot class? Who should attend? GPRS Protocols and Procedures is recommended to anyone in need of detailed GPRS knowledge. Typical participants are operator personnel implementing and operating GPRS networks, and vendor personnel in GPRS equipment production. Other categories include managers responsible for GPRS activities who need thorough GPRS system know-how to make everyday decisions. Prerequisites GSM Survey, GPRS Survey, GPRS/EDGE or equivalent knowledge. For more information about in-house training events, please send an email to Widermind at info@widermind.com.
