Date: Time: REMINDER!
18th December 1930-2130 Several years ago, for safety reasons, our
Scout County stated that any person taking
Information: part in a Scouting activity which involved
hiking, walking, or similar (i.e. bike riding,
Come in Hawaiian horse riding, etc.) is required to wear High
Visibility (Hi-Viz) Clothing, i.e. Hi-Viz vest
fancy dress. Play or coat.
Please note reflective armbands and the
games, eat food new reflective neckerchiefs
and dance all night! are not sufficient.

Additionally, where a unit is walking at night during the hours of darkness, that a Hi-Viz cover be placed
over the back- -pack of the rearmost person. This can be done by fastening another Hi-Viz vest or coat
over the bag.
Highway Code Rule 5 states that such a unit should display a white light to the front and a red light to the
rear during the hours of darkness. This rule must be complied with.
Hi-Viz clothing should even be worn when walking across country, as in the event of an unforeseen
rescue, the team can be easily seen especially by Air Ambulance or rescuers.
Should you wish clarification on any of these matters please do not hesitate to contact: -
Steve Cree Deputy County Commissioner

Over the weekend of
Or November 14/15 seven Scouts
Peter Bryan—Band Chairman on attended the
0115 9557324 Electronics Badge course held at
Be part of this musical 2nd Arnold HQ to learn about:
experience, come along and join us. •the fundamentals of electronics
•how to identify and use
the various types of electronic components;
•how to measure values of voltage, current and resistance in a simple circuit
•how to use a soldering iron to construct an electronic circuit;
•the safety precautions that should be taken whilst working with electrical equipment.
During the course of the weekend a number of circuits were successfully built and by the
end of the weekend each scout had successfully constructed a medium wave radio re-
ceiver which they took away.
Congratulations to the following who each earned their Electronics badge:
Liam Hammond & Tom Warrener (2nd Arnold), Hugh Atkin, Jack Walters, James Mawby
& Richard Dewsnap (Southwell)
& Tom Kozhukhov (4th Carlton).
Southwell Scouts Winter Expedition to Ilam
On Saturday 21st November
Southwell Scouts, Invictus
Explorers and Leaders set off on
an expedition to Ilam youth
hostel.

We left Southwell at 8am and

headed for a car park near
Thorpe Cloud next to the River
Dove. We then split into two
groups, had a look at the map,
then started our first hike. We
followed the river up north until
we got to Milldale then on the
return journey we took the
western side of the river along
the hills. Along the way we found proof that money does grow on
trees!

We stayed overnight at Ilam youth hostel. The hostel is a Victorian

gothic building, and it is rated four stars, which means it has
excellent standards. We slept in dormitories in beds with sheets
and duvets supplied for us. There were plenty of amusements but
we spent most of the night playing pool. I would recommend
staying at Ilam youth hostel because it’s great fun, relaxing, and the
food is fantastic.

The Next day we sat down

at breakfast and discussed
the route for that day, and
then we went out to start.
We started the route by
first following the river
north then following a path
South-East then back to
Ilam, and to the hostel to
pick up the minibus and
travel home.

Even though it was the

wettest weekend of the
year, and we all got wet and muddy, we still had a good time and enjoyed ourselves. We would like
to thank all the leaders that helped out and made this weekend possible.
