&he PurchaserHs 11= 33 E 132 '. systems are 3 phase= 3 wire= !0 2;. &he substations
may be installed in e44ectively earthed and non%e44ectively earthed situations. *hen
installed in non%e44ectively earthed situations= signi4icant voltage variations 8up to line
to neutral voltage9 may be produced at the neutral terminal during an earth 4ault.
&he trans4ormers will be suitable 4or indoor and outdoor use.
&he service conditions will be in accordance with lause 1.2 o4 AS )00+).1= with the
4ollowing e3ception that the ma3imum air temperature will be 4! and the average daily
and annual air temperature will not e3ceed 3! and 2! respectively and conse:uently
the allowable reduced temperature rise limits to those speci4ied in AS 23+4.2 shall be
limited to !! and )0 4or top oil temperature rise and average winding temperature
rise respectively. &he mean relative humidity can vary between 40C and /0C.
%. Desi"n and Construction
Design and construction per4ormance parameters are detailed in this section and
supplemented by )ttachment 1.
%.1 General
"enerally= all design and construction o4 the items and their components and parts must be
6it 4or Purpose and 6it 4or Duty= including 4or Bormal yclic and Emergency yclic Duty as
described in this speci4ication and applicable documents to prevent distortion or damage
under service conditions and during handling and transport.
&he trans4ormers will be suitably sti44ened and braced to prevent distortion or damage
under service conditions or during handling and transport.
All sharp points on trans4ormer e3terior will be removed to prevent inJury.
All bolts nuts and washers 84asteners= studs= li4ting lugs etc.9 will be to Australian 7etric
Standards and be stainless steel "rade 31) or 304. ompatibility= with regard to corrosion

prevention= between the 4asteners will be observed. &o prevent binding= di44erent grade
stainless steel nuts and bolts1 will be used together with anti%sei;ing lubricant on all bolt
threads.
&he overall dimensions o4 the trans4ormers will not e3ceed the limits detailed in
)ttachment 1.
%.2 5oadin"
&he trans4ormers will be suitable 4or loading in accordance with AS 23+4= Part +. Bo part o4
the trans4ormer 84or e3ampleA bushings or tapping switch9 will impose restrictions on the
loading capabilities.
%.3 3il Preser$ation S,stem - T,pe
Sealed tan' type construction will be usedA however= the trans4ormers will not be
pressurised or incorporate gases other than air. Diaphragm sealing is not acceptable.
%.# Tan(s and 5ids
All sur4aces will be designed to prevent the accumulation o4 water.
All seams will be electrically welded and oil tight.
$n the e3ternal areas o4 the tan'= welding o4 hori;ontal and vertical Joints will be on both
sides o4 the Joint. *elding in all cases will be continuous.
All metal wor' will be electrically bonded to the tan' to permit earthing by the Purchaser. -4
a part cannot be ade:uately bonded it will be constructed 4rom a suitable insulating material
instead o4 metal.
&he tan's will be so designed that with a top oil temperature o4 10!= the oil level in the
tan' will be below the tan' lid 4lange.
&he lid o4 the trans4ormer will be capable o4 being removed without having to ta'e o44 other
components 4irst 8eg. cable bo39 and will be capable o4 supporting up to 100 'g o4 a
personHs weight without permanent de4ormation.
&he tan' will incorporate all mounting studs necessary 4or the 4itment o4 an #. cable bo3. -t
will also incorporate two mounting lugs located appro3. 4!0mm above ground level 4or
attachment o4 the #. cable support brac'et. 85e4er clause !.13.39.
%.% Joints and Gas(ets
All Joints will be oil tight. All gas'ets@seals will be designed to last the intended li4e o4 the
trans4ormer. (oints in gas'ets will not occur at bolt holes.
%.& Core and 6indin"s
All trans4ormers will have electrically separate high and low voltage windings connected to
comply with vector group Dyn11= or D;n0 as relevant to the items as stated in Attachment
1= o4 AS )00+).
&he core and winding assembly will be supported by the main tan' and not by the cover.

7eans will be provided at both the top and bottom o4 the core and coil assembly 4or locating
the trans4ormer core centrally in the tan' and securing it in position to prevent movement=
particularly during transport.
&he core and all metalwor' will be electrically bonded to the tan'. &he bonding will be
brought to one point only.
&he insulation between the core and the 4rame will have a resistance no lower than !0 7
a4ter assembly= and will withstand 2.! '. 4or one minute. &he core and 4rame will then be
electrically connected together at one point only.
%.' Tappin"s
tappings will be provided on the high voltage winding. &he tapping range 4or each unit will
be as stated above o4 rated voltage with a tapping step &ap position 1 will correspond to
the 4ull winding in circuit.
Each trans4ormer will be capable o4 o44%circuit tap changing by means o4 an e3ternally
operated seven position tapping switch.
&he tapping switch will have a permanent overload capability o4 !0C i.e. 1!0C o4
nameplate 4ull load current o4 trans4ormer.
&he tapping switch will be located near the top o4 the trans4ormer 4or ease o4 access and to
readily 4acilitate untan'ing o4 the trans4ormer.
&he tapping switch will be capable o4 being loc'ed in each position. &he loc'ing
arrangements will be such that it is not possible to loc' the switch between taps.
Each tapping selector switch position will be identi4ied by a number clearly and indelibly
stamped onto either the switch operating handle or the trans4ormer tan'.
A sealing gland will be provided on the tapping selector switch operating sha4t where it
passes through the trans4ormer tan' to prevent any breathing or lea'ing along the sha4t.

&he impedance voltage at rated current on principal tapping will be as speci4ied in
)ttachment 1.

&he method o4 cooling each trans4ormer will be $BAB.

&he trans4ormers will be delivered 4illed 8to cold oil level9 with mineral insulating oil
complying with? AS 1+)+.1 % 1///= and be proven to be non%corrosive by 7ethod 1 o4
AS&7 D12+!%0) Standard &est 7ethod 4or orrosive Sul4ur in Electrical -nsulating $ils
and= -E )2!3! Ed. 1.0? -nsulating li:uids > &est method 4or detection o4 potentially
corrosive sulphur in used and unused insulating oil. &he :uality o4 7ineral -nsulating oil at
time o4 4illing 8i.e. on release 4rom supplier9 must have a moisture content o4 less than 20
ppm and greater than or e:ual to !0 '. 1rea'down .oltage.
Any and each insulating oil o44ered will be certi4ied as polychlorinated biphenyl%4ree 8P1%
4ree9 in accordance with the de4inition o4 P1%4ree in the Environmental Protection 8*aste

7anagement9 5egulations 2000 8Gld9. Analysis shall be conducted in a laboratory certi4ied
by BA&A 4or the appropriate analyses. &he &enderer will supply 4ull speci4ications and test
results 4or any and each oil o44ered.
%.11 :ushin"s and Terminals
%.11.1 General
All bushings will comply with AS@BIS )013+= AS 443) and the Service and Environmental
onditions as speci4ied in this technical speci4ication. All porcelain components will be
gla;ed and 4ully vitri4ied.
All terminal palms will be arranged vertically and comply with AS )22+1.301. &hey will be
copper with their contact sur4aces tinned or silver plated. 1oth sur4aces will be used as
contact sur4aces.
%.11.2 57 :ushin"s
&he #. bushings will be mounted hori;ontally on the side o4 the trans4ormer opposite the
2. cable bo3 and spaced to allow a bushing mounted current trans4ormer to be 4itted by
the Purchaser to each phase as shown in drawing 02%03%03.
&he part o4 each #. bushing within the tan' will be completely covered with oil when the
trans4ormer is cold 8with an outside temperature o4 1!9= and will be readily accessible
with the tan' cover removed.
&he distance between centre lines o4 the #. bushings will not be less than 200 mm 4or all
ratings. &he taut string metal to metal clearances o4 the bushing terminals will be not less
than 100 mm= phase to phase= and )0 mm phase to earth.
&he terminal palms will allow 4or current trans4ormers to be 4itted over them 8clear o4 the
contact area9.
&he neutral connection to the star point on the secondary winding will be brought out o4 the
tan' unearthed and insulated in the same manner as the phase terminals.
%.11.3 Mar(in" of Terminals
&he terminals will be mar'ed in accordance with AS 23+4. &he use o4 adhesives to attach
mar'ing plates will not be accepted.

&ypes o4 accessibility= Accessibility &ype A= A.) Acceptance criteria= riterion Bo. 1 to
riterion Bo. ! inclusive= 4or an -A classi4ication test current 4or each voltage level to the
PurchaserHs satis4action= generally being pre4erred by the Purchaser asA the 5ated short%
time withstand current 4or each voltage level as noted under lause 4.2 Electrical Power
Supply System haracteristics with an -A 6ault duration o4 1 second.

%.12.2 General e1uirements for 33 (7 Cable :o;es
&he access cover o4 the cable bo3 shall be capable o4 being removed@installed by two
persons without mechanical aids. A brushed aluminium cover 4itted with suitable li4ting
handles is pre4erred by the Purchaser. As a minimum= the top edge o4 the access cover
shall have a return to ensure the ingress o4 moisture through the gas'et is prevented. -t is
pre4erred that both side edges also include a return.

&he minimum clearances between e3posed live parts shall generally be in accordance with
the re:uirements i4 AS 20)+ 4or the re:uired impulse withstand voltages o4 200 '.p. *hen
determining minimum clearances= due consideration shall be ta'en o4 the 4le3ible cable
connections. *here manu4acturers use clearances that are less than those shown in AS
20)+= type test results are to be provided by the Supplier indicating that the clearances
selected are capable o4 meeting the above test voltages.
&he design o4 the cable bo3 shall be such that the cable termination connections can be le4t
bare without the need 4or 4urther insulation. &he provision o4 easily removable phase%
barriers is acceptable.
#ightning impulse withstand voltage tests shall be carried out with the cable lugs suitable
4or the applicable cable 4itted within the bo3 8to remain 4itted to trans4ormer during test
including cover9 to prove compliance with the speci4ied impulse withstand voltage level.
&he cable bo3 shall be completely weather and vermin proo4 and shall be ade:uately
ventilated to eliminate the possibility o4 build up o4 moisture internally.
&he cable bo3 shall be 4itted with a removable gland plate made o4 aluminium= brass= or
other corrosive%resistant material to the PurchaserHs satis4action= bolted to the underside o4
the cable bo3 to allow the cables to be laid into and removed 4rom the bo3 without the need
to thread the cables through the entry holes. &his 4eature provides ease o4 Jointing and
4acilitates the changing o4 trans4ormers.
An earth bar 4or cable sheath earths= insulated 4rom the trans4ormer steelwor'= shall be
provided in the cable bo3. &he earth bar shall have su44icient holes provided to allow 4or
individual connection o4 each cable sheath. Provision shall be made 4or e3ternal connection
to the earth grid.
&he minimum distance 4rom the gland plate to ground level shall be 4)0 mm.
&he cable bo3 4ront cover shall be 4astened using galvanised bolts= nuts and washers.
&he cable openings shall be located directly below the corresponding phase cable
connection points.
%.12.3 33 (7 Cable e1uirements
33 '. cable bo3es provided 4or distribution trans4ormers shall be suitable 4or terminating all
industry standard 33 '. cables used 4or power supply distribution.
Allowance shall be made in the gland plates to accommodate these cables.
