This document summarizes the properties and applications of 36% nickel-iron alloy. Some key points:
- 36% nickel-iron alloy has a useful combination of low thermal expansion, moderate strength, and good toughness down to -452°F (-269°C), making it attractive for cryogenic applications.
- It meets ASTM specifications for mechanical properties and chemical composition. Typical tensile strength is 65,000-80,000 psi.
- The alloy can be readily welded using TIG or MIG welding with a modified 36% nickel-iron alloy filler metal. Welds achieve matching strength to the base plate.
- The alloy's mechanical properties are not affected by long-
