in hardness test

DEAR READERS,
2014 is still young and the first issue of our
new magazine is hot off the press! With
our "Breaking News" twice a year, all you
professionals in action will "know the drill".
And that in the truest sense of the word:
Information about drill bits and drilling,
challenges from everyday practices and
interesting facts about construction.
In this trade fair edition the focus is, of course, on the
International Hardware Fair in Cologne. In March well be
presenting a number of new products here such as the Bionic
Pro SDS-plus hammer drill bit. More details on this can be found
on pages 6-11. In addition there are many interesting topics:

We provide insights into our company, answer questions about

safety and user protection and have subjected our SDS-plus
3-cutter, the Trijet, to a hardness test. This is what we concluded:
Sometimes less is also more. But we do not want to give too
much away. Read it for yourselves.
We hope that you enjoy the "Breaking News". And of course
were always happy to hear your suggestions. For example via
our Facebook page or at info@hellertools.com.
Have fun browsing and reading!

HIGHER, FASTER, FURTHER

The New Century Global
Centre in Chengdu is the
biggest building in the world,
at 1.7 million square metres.

REKORDE AUS DER WELT DES BAUS

BIG,

BIGGER,

BIGGEST
Records and competitions are as old as mankind. And in the building
industry too, the name of the game is often "higher, faster, further".
Here is an overview of building sites in exceptional dimensions:
When exactly the first construction site in
the world was completed, no one really
knows any more. But the longest and also
the oldest road construction site is located
between Alaska and Argentina. As some
areas have still not been fully developed
or asphalted, the construction of the
30,000-kilometre-long Pan-American
Highway has now been ongoing since
1925. Surely no construction worker will
live long enough to witness both the start
and the completion of this project.
Going even higher was
the dream of the builders
of the Burj Khalifa in
Dubai. Construction on
the huge skyscraper began
in 2004 and in 2009 it
reached a record high of

04

828 meters. Since then it has held the title of

"the tallest building in the world". Overall,
the construction costs of the project amounted to 1.5 billion U.S. dollars. The most
important criterion for professionals on the
construction site: having a head for heights!
However, buildings dont just stretch up
high but also wide. And the construction
workers at the Beijing airport had to be
especially enthusiastic about movement.

Because, being 3,250 meters in length,

Terminal 3 there is the longest building in
the world. For 1.8 billion euros, the steel
and glass structure was built on 1.3 million
square meters, according to the ideas of
star architect Norman Foster. Also in China,
is the building with the largest area: The
New Century Global Centre in the Chinese
sub-provincial city of Chengdu, completed
in 2013 is the biggest building in the
world, at 1.7 million square metres.

WHAT MANY DONT KNOW

The record for the most crooked tower in the world is not held by the landmark in the Italian city of Pisa, but rather by a church tower built in 1450
in East Frisian Suurhusen. This record holder has a height of 27.37 metres
and is at an angle of 5.19 degrees right at the forefront of the category
of non-intentionally incorrectly-built buildings in the Guinness Book of
World Records. Here, unfortunately, Heller drill bits were not yet available: Drill forger
Jacob Heller from Schmalkalden was first documented in a chronicle in 1583.

manufacturers. The user gets what they were promised: a reliable
product. In addition, the durability of a product of German origin
is guaranteed. Throughout the
world, "Made in Germany" thus
stands for trust and reliability.

UNDER DISCUSSION
Experts give their assessment of the
current significance of this success label

JRG FROMMEYER, MANAGEMENT

MARKETING, PRODUCTS, OPERATIONS:
"Made in Germany" continues to be a
seal of quality that influences purchasing
decisions as well as a simple and compelling
summary of our high performance level. It is
not only in the export markets, with a share of sales of over
80 percent that our customers rely on values such as quality,
safety, and success. There are 3 key factors that bring Heller
products to their high level: Excellent raw materials, highly
automated machinery, and staff with
years of experience. "Made in Germany"
is therefore also a challenge we have to
set ourselves every day.

RAFIQ BANATWALA, OWNER OF NEXT GEN TOOLS:

Essentially, "Made in Germany" stands for high product
quality. It does not matter whether it is drill bits, machines,
tools or other products. The label stands for an advantage

MICHAEL KLEINE, MANAGER,

MAC PANTHER GMBH:
In an increasingly complex world, the desire
for simple guidance is becoming ever greater.
The label "Made in Germany" helps people to
find products that promise a consistently high
quality. "Made in Germany" is also a promise that moral and
ethical standards are being observed,
e.g. with regards to occupational
safety, wages and fair competition.

MARK ANDERSON, MANAGER AT AUSTRALIAN PRECAST

PANEL SYSTEMS:
In my view, the new Heller Trijet symbolizes everything that
"Made in Germany" stands for. Carbide drill bits from Germany
are generally among the best in the world. But the new Heller
Trijets are real "weapons" that was the unanimous opinion of
our team. During tests in our concrete panels with a thickness of
up to 70 megapascals, poor quality is recognized immediately.
The Trijet stands out prominently from the plethora of good
drill bits: Fast, with less vibration and a long life. These are the
properties that products "Made
in Germany" must allow themselves to be measured by.

BIONIC PRO HAMMER DRILL BIT

HAMMER DRILL 2.0

BIONIC PRO: SIMPLY. FASTER. HELLER.

The all-rounder: High drilling speed, enhanced durability and even

more comfortable drilling. Heller presents the new version of its
proven hammer drill bit the Bionic Pro. Thanks to the innovative
"Twinmax 3D" flute design the Bionic Pro hammer drill bit has a
large transport volume. This makes the all-purpose solution even
quicker and more effective. Rounded cutting edges, lower friction,
stabilized head geometry and 2-point centering increase the service
life in concrete and with exposed reinforcement. And the best part
of it: We have significantly reduced typical drilling dust explosions.

new generation of Heller
Enduro chisels. Thanks
to "self-sharpening"
geometry wear has been
significantly reduced. The
chisel profile only wears
slightly over the entire period of use. Through the larger chisel
blade length compared to a standard chisel, service life has
been significantly extended. The aggressive design ensures a
higher breaking effect, and removal rate. Moreover, the use

and working comfort have

been optimized by the lowvibration behavior.

"SELF-SHARPENING" / IDEAL FOR HARDEST STONEWARE
The trend in the bathroom is moving toward ever harder tiles,
both on the wall and on the floor. This stoneware presents one
of the major challenges. According to Villeroy & Boch, there are
hardly any efficient solutions for drill bits and angle grinders.

This is increased further by the requirement to dry drill, so as

not to leave any dirt or splashing water when renovating. And
glazed, hard-burnt tiles also cause real difficulties. The new
Cera Expert series can remedy this.

PREVENT DUST

LESS DUST,
MORE HEALTH

DUST FREE DRILLING WORK EFFICIENTLY

Dust exposure is a critical factor on the construction site. As of yet there is no international or EU
directive. Legal initiatives are expected in the future to reduce the dust exposure of workmen. In
addition: Dust produces a lot of dirt, cleaning it requires extra work. Using a chemical
anchor also requires a clean, dust-free drill hole.

Construction sites require real men!
They are required to work with their bare
hands and with heavy artillery, and have
to endure the wind and the rain.
There is lots of hard grafting, sweating and

SAFETY FIRST

TESTED,
CERTIFIED,
CERTIFIED
SAFE
On construction sites the highest safety
requirements prevail. Bad tools lead to
inaccuracies and unprofessional results. This
endangers the safety both of the user and
of the other employees. This is why Heller
sets top quality and control standards right
from the start of production.
QUALITY PROTECTS USERS
Product safety and user protection are top
priority in construction. Under the label "Quality
for Professionals" Heller stands for convincing
product quality. The production of drill bits "Made in Germany" is
certified and externally monitored. The result: the highest security
requirements with minimal tolerances. Special features include the
high precision in the symmetrical alignment of the carbide tips, a
special surface treatment and hardening, as well as the automatic
straightening method for reducing the probability of breakage and
vibration characteristics of the drill bit.

GOOD VIBRATIONS
As the first European drill bit manufacturer Heller has had its
products independently tested at Loughborough University
the leading institute for hand-arm vibration testing. The result:
optimal efficiency and minimal vibration. Anyone working a lot
professionally with hammer drills or similar oscillators must
reckon with the possible long-term health issues caused
by increased "hand-arm vibration". The "EU Vibration
Directive 2002/44/EC" aims to help here.

HELLER DRILL BITS

SETTING STANDARDS
IN USER PROTECTION
AND SAFETY

Construction professionals know the value of

the highest quality both for the success of the
construction project as well as in terms of safety.

DISTINGUISHED AS SAFE
Products from Heller are also certified by the "Prfgemeinschaft
Mauerbohrer e.V. (PGM)" (independent masonry drill bit testing
association). Through monitoring and tests the PGM checks if drill
bits have been correctly designed for use with approved anchors.
There are only a few authorized manufacturers who
were distinguished by the PGM. Drill bits with
this symbol provide geometrically accurate
holes for maximum grip and maximum safety.

3-cutter or 4-cutter? This question is the subject of much controversial

discussion among experts. Which drill bit has a higher transport volume,
which has a lower wear and which the lower vibration? The hardness test
with SDS-plus and SDS-max drill bits brings light into the darkness and
shows: Sometimes less is more. In addition to the Trijet from Heller,
4-cutters from the competition were tested.

WISDOM OF CONSTRUCTION

FROM THE HEADLINE:

WHAT DOESNT FIT

WILL BE MADE TO FIT
SMALL BRIDGE BUILDING GLITCH
Deviations of one or two centimetres often do not play a major role. But sometimes they can be decisive. This especially
applies to bridge building. The best example: the city of Laufenberg. This is right on the border between Germany and
Switzerland. That means: Part of the city is located in Germany, the other part belongs to the neighbouring country. In
2003 construction began of the Hochrheinbrcke, which would henceforth connect the two parts together. However,
there was a small but crucial difference in height of 54 centimeters. The reason for this was a classic design flaw: the two
countries have a different height reference. While Germany's is related to the sea level of the North Sea, Switzerlands is
taken from the Mediterranean. After all errors had been eliminated, the insurance of a Swiss engineering company was
liable for the damages.

A NAILED-ON SCREW HOLDS BETTER

THAN A SCREWED-ON NAIL

The best option, however, is a perfect drill hole anchor connection. In

addition, this ensures safety and prevents accidents in construction.
No helmet can ultimately protect against montages falling apart
or falling construction components. Heller products are certified by
the Prfgemeinschaft Mauerbohrer e.V. for a safe drill hole anchor
connection. Heller therefore offers maximum security for maximum
success of the construction project.

FOAM AND SILICONE

DISPLACE PRECISION

Circular holes and drill bits with low vibration reduce

the use of foam and silicone. The precise alignment
of the carbide ensures low tolerances in the radial
run-out. In combination with the optimal helical
shape, Heller drill bits cause less vibrations. This
means construction professionals need to reach for
the foam far less frequently.

DRILL BITS ARE SOMETHING

ONLY FOR REALLY HARD BOYS

Specially hardened drill bits not only ensure longer

life of the tools, but also prevent, for example, worse
accidents happening due to a drill bit breaking. In
order to minimize this hazard, Heller relies on a
special surface treatment and hardening, as well as
automatic straightening methods for reducing the
probability of breakage and vibration characteristics
of the drill bit.
