HIGHLIGHTED PROJECTS Testing Eectiveness of Hedging Strategies - Excel : B+ attained The purpose of the project was to clarifying the eectiveness of dierent hedging strategies using futures contracts to hedge the spot position. The main issue is to determine the optimal ratio used. We used excel to implement dierent methods of estimating optimal ratio- the static ratio and dynamic ratio. The results show that the dynamic methods improve the eectiveness of the hedge. Ranking Market Risk Measurements Matlab A attained In this project we attempted to test the eectiveness of dierent Market Risk Measurement - the Value at Risk Methods with dierent database, dierent condence level and dierent estimation windows. The Results showed that the standard methods using normal distribution and student-t distribution fails to measure the market risk while the non-parametric method, namely, the Hull-White (HW) method and the Boudoukh, Richardson, and Whitelaw (BRW) methods consistently satisfy the dierent criteria. Portfolio Management (Highest grades in the Course) A+ attained In this project, we used Matlab to implement nancial techniques in Portfolio Management. We compared dierent methods in portfolio formation, in dierent dataset using rolling windows. Then we compared the eectiveness of these techniques using the Sharpe ratios. We found that despite the fact that many techniques have been developed, the equally weighted portfolio still has highest out of sample Sharpe ratio, due to the eects of estimation errors of these techniques. The project gained the highest grade in the course due to deep knowledge in nance and Technical skills.
