Part II: Reflection
CANDIDATE REFLECTIONS: (Minimum of 3-4 sentences per question)
1. Briefly describe the field experience. What did you learn about technology facilitation and leadership from completing this field experience?
In this field experience, I used technology to bring the past alive to students as well as bring recognition to local heroes. Creating this lesson taught me a lot about how to use technology to reach a multitude of students through differentiation and using a combination of technologies to reach a high LoTi Level and a high level of Blooms Taxonomy. Leadership in a technical role is an important part of being an Instructional Technology Coach. I learned that it is important to expect that not everyone is fluent in technology and make learning how to operate technology an important part of the lesson. Not only using technology in the lesson, but also teaching others how to properly use said technology.
2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs, enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected in Part I. Use the language of the PSC standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)
In this field experience, I had to use me knowledge of the content standards and technology standards to create a valuable learning experience for the students. I had to believe that authentic learning could be accomplished through the use of technology and develop a strategy to make that happen. Because the students had a digital research portion to the assignment, I had to be able to properly manage and facilitate the use of digital tools. I also was able to learn and troubleshoot problems in software as well as teach others to use the software necessary to complete this unit.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be assessed?
The Instructional Technology Plan for the Gainesville School System incorporate using up to date technology for teaching and learning. By using resources such as Skype, iPads and iMovie, this unit supports this plan as well as helps faculty become more comfortable with using technology in their lessons. Student learning is addressed by relating this project to content standards. Students were able to address the standards of learning about American involvement in wars from 1900 to present. These standards can be assessed by the students successfulness in the unit, in the classroom, as well as on the Common Core State Standardized Tests.
