1.0 INTRODUCTION

This subject aims to introduce international unit standards, vectors, scientific calculation with
regard to mechanics which are relevant to civil, construction and mechanical engineering and
computing science. This is a compulsory course for all first year Civil Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science students, and contributes two (2) units
towards Trimester 1.

The course revises basic Physics concepts learnt during secondary schooland builds on
these, introducing more topics relevant to Engineering. These fundamental topics are pre-
requisites for later courses.

A non-compulsory tutorial will be available for students. This provides students with the
opportunity to seek help from the lecturer with homework problems, exam preparation or
other physics questions.
