Save the Children – UK, Sialkot
Feb-1997 to 30th December 1999)
Save The Children working for lasting benefits for children overseas and the UK
remains Save the Children’s fundamental aim. The Fund’s fieldwork in the UK and
overseas gives it a voice of experience that is listened to around the world – in times of
crisis, and more importantly when policies affecting children are being established and
debated. That experience positions Save the Children as an agency that can influence
public opinion and policy in favor of the needs and rights of children worldwide. I was a
regular part time member of the Save the Children’s research team from Feb-97 till Dec
1999 and collect the base line information and did revisiting visits of 1629 villages of
District Sialkot.
We used PRA techniques in all the practices of the research.
The fieldwork commenced with basic training in survey methodology and child – focused
participatory research tools. It consisted of
Collecting data for village profile
Conducting family interviews
Leading focus groups on child labor attitudes
Practices among selected communities representative of Sialkot‘s population
Preparation of data sheets for analysis
