Project Overview

Abstract of the Study: Hasmin Library System
A library is an organized collection of information resources made accessible to a defined
community for reference of borrowings. It provides physical or digital access to material, and may be
physical building or room, or a virtual space, or both. A library`s collection can include books,
periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, prints, documents, microform, cassettes, videotapes,
DVDs, Blu-ray discs, e-books, audiobooks, databases, and other formats.
Students may not know how to fully use the library`s resources. This can be due to some
individual`s unease in approaching a staff member. Ways in which a library`s content is displayed or
accessed may have the most impact on use. Libraries should inform their users of what materials are
available in their collections and how to access that information. Before the computer age this was
accomplished by the card catalogue, a cabinet that identified books and other materials.
Manual operating systems are vulnerable to error. For instance, a librarian who misfiles a
borrower`s records or indexes a book incorrectly slows down the process and wastes employee`s time.
Manual systems are also slow to operate. Instead of using a computer to issue and take back books,
locating and updating a card index is slow and laborious. Manual systems are unable to store large
amounts of data efficiently. With manual systems staff spends a lot of their time on mechanical, clerical
task rather than liaising with library visitors. Using a computerized library system, all the task can be
done efficiently, faster and error free.
