A Brief on ONGCs Mumbai High Asset

Mumbai High is biggest oil & gas field in Western offshore .The field is
located about 165 kilometers away in Arabian ea at a water de!th of
"# to $# meters. The field was disco%ered in 1&"' by the legendary rig
agar amrat. The field was !ut on commercial !roduction in 1&"6.
The field has de%elo!ed with mammoth infrastructure for (il & )as

Detailed Desri!tion of the "#ui!ments Used$

A !ri%ate branch e+change is a tele!hone e+change that ser%es a
!articular business or office 4in our case* (.)38. This is the o!!osite
of one that a common carrier or tele!hone com!any o!erates for many
businesses or for the general !ublic.
The ;1A0= in the abo%e used system is only for the transmission
and the rece!tion of the %oice signals %ia the satellite.
The ;1A0= makes connection among the internal tele!hones of a
!ri%ate organi>ation 4(.)38 and also connect them to the !ublic
switched tele!hone network 4MT.78 as also to the satellite network as
shown in the abo%e case.
-& MU(
Multi!le,er$
A mu+ or a multi!le+er combines the many %oice signals into a
single !ath and gi%es the out!ut to the modem. 2t is used only for the
%oice signals and not for the data signals.
The mu+ used in the abo%e used system is as gi%en?

There are %arious cards that are used and fitted in the mu+ used
abo%e. The cards used currently in the MB= are as follows?

.& MOD"M
Modulator / Demodulator$
A modem is a de%ice that modulates an analog carrier signal to
encode digital information and also demodulates such a carried signal
to decode the transmitted information. The goal is to !roduce a signal
that can be transmitted easily and decoded to re!roduce the original
data.
The modem used for our satellite communication is the :adyne
3or!oration 6M6,'#1 atellite Modem.
2t is a micro!rocessor controlled 01C* /1C or (/1C
Modulator & 6emodulator for use as !art of the transmitting and
recei%ing ground eDui!ment in the communication system. The modem
is designed for ser%ice in an 313 system where two modems are set
for continuous o!eration with each system.
0& ROUT"R$
A router is a networking de%ice whose software and hardware are
usually tailored to the tasks of routing and forwarding information. The
router in the communication system abo%e is used for the data to be
transmitted from one end to the other.

A radio freDuency u!Econ%erter is a de%ice that takes an in!ut of
intermediate freDuency energy of a s!ecific freDuency range and
out!uts it on a higher freDuency.
The u!Econ%erters are designed for use in the communication
systems or in the satellite u!link data systems 4like here8 for the
transmission of 313* 6AMA and T6MA communication signals.
The u!Econ%erter used in the satellite communication system
abo%e is the 3omtech BT '5#5.

The downEcon%erters are designed for use in the communication
systems or in the satellite u!link data systems 4like here8 for the
rece!tion of 313* 6AMA and T6MA communication signals.
The downEcon%erter used in the satellite communication system
abo%e is 6TE'5#9.

:o8 Noise Am!lifier$
The low noise am!lifier 47.A8 is a s!ecial ty!e of electronic am!lifier or
am!lifier used in communication systems to am!lify %ery weak signals
ca!tured by an antenna. 2t is often located %ery close to the antenna. 2f
the 7.A is located close to the antenna* then losses in the feedline
become less critical
2t is a key com!onent* which is !laced at the frontEend of a radio
recei%er circuit. Bsing an 7.A* the noise of all the subseDuent stages
is reduced by the gain of the 7.A and the noise of the 7.A is in-ected
directly into the recei%ed signal. Thus* it is necessary for an 7.A to
boost the desired signal !ower while adding as little noise and
distortion as !ossible so that the retrie%al of this signal is !ossible in
the later stages in the system.
The 7.A used here is a 7(3B 7nacE11##E".

co!!er tele!hone lines than a con%entional %oiceband modem can

The distinguishing characteristic of A67 o%er other forms of 67 is
that the %olume of data flow is greater in one direction than the other*
i.e. it is asymmetric. 1ro%iders usually market A67 as a ser%ice for
consumers to connect to the 2nternet in a relati%ely !assi%e mode? able
to use the higher s!eed direction for the JdownloadJ from the 2nternet
but not needing to run ser%ers that would reDuire high s!eed in the
other direction.
A67 is generally offered at downstream data rates from 51, Cb!s to
about 6 Mb!s. A67 was s!ecifically designed to e+!loit the oneEway
nature of most multimedia communication in which large amounts of
information flow toward the user and only a small amount of interacti%e
control information is returned. e%eral e+!eriments with A67 to real
users began in 1&&6.

The distinguishing characteristic of A67 o%er other forms of

the other direction.
There are both technical and marketing reasons why A67 is in
many !laces the most common ty!e offered to home users. (n the
technical side* there is likely to be more crosstalk from other circuits at
the 67AM end 4where the wires from many local loo!s are close to
each other8 than at the customer !remises. Thus the u!load signal is
weakest at the noisiest !art of the local loo!* while the download signal
is strongest at the noisiest !art of the local loo!. 2t therefore makes
technical sense to ha%e the 67AM transmit at a higher bit rate than
does the modem on the customer end. ince the ty!ical home user in
fact does !refer a higher download s!eed* the tele!hone com!anies
chose to make a %irtue out of necessity* hence A67. (n the
marketing side* limiting u!load s!eeds limits the attracti%eness of this
ser%ice to business customers* often causing them to !urchase higher
cost 7eased line ser%ices instead.

Therefore* by modifying the system a bit we ha%e increased the
download freDuency kee!ing the total freDuency same. This enables
the user to ha%e greater download s!eed than the u!load s!eed.
