Bob Miller was a man of unquenchable hope who was consumed with a
vision of a world conquered by the gospel of Jesus Christ. As the years
went on this vision clarified, and his Christ-centered approach to life and
history became more and more emphatic. He learned to understand that
this world-wide victory of biblical Christianity will come about only
through Spirit-empowered perseverance in duty to Christ among Chris-
tians. So, to the very end of his life, Bob was seeking to influence peo-
ple, particularly young adults, for Christ.
Here, in I Corinthians 15, is the solid basis for our victory-oriented
hope of the future. It is rooted in the actual, historical, irrefutable resur-
rection of Jesus Christ from dead in the same body in which
suffered.
Exposition
1. The resurrection of Christ and our new birth as Christians. His resur-
rection guaranteed our spiritual resurrection as God's people, the new hu-
manity in Christ.
2. The resurrection of Christ and our physical resurrection. His resurrec-
tion guarantees that we will live beyond death and experience physical re-
surrection at the end of history when Jesus returns to earth.
3. The resurrection of Christ and the conquest of the world by Christ.
Having been crucified and raised from the dead, Jesus is now at the right
hand of God governing the world, advancing his kingdom and destroying
his enemies. He is returning physically someday to earth, but it will not
happen, until he has put down all opposition against him in all places.
4. The resurrection of Christ and our daily faithfulness to Christ, vs. 58.
Everything we do in obedience to Christ will be used by him to conquer
the world with the gospel. Even the smallest things, the most insignificant
things, will count for him, when they are done in obedience to his word
and to his glory.
Conclusion:
a. happened to Jesus happens to his people.
b. If we are domg what Jesus is doing we will share in the victory he is
winning. (vs. 24 and 58)
c. Use Bob Miller as an example in persevering in faithfulness to Christ
and in the hope of Christ's victory to the end. Praise God for Bob Miller.
