1 Differences Between Huawei D2 of the
China Telecom, Mobile, and Unicom Editions
Huawei D2 of the Telecom edition (D2-2010) supports CDMA 2000 EVDO Ver.A/1X 800
MHz, GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, dual-card dual standby mode, and inter-card call holding,
and uses K3V2 AP+ dual modem.
Huawei D2 of the Mobile edition (D2-5000) supports the TD-SCDMA A+F frequency/GSM
850/900/1800/1900 MHz, a single card, and UMTS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz during
international roaming, and uses K3 V2 AP+BalongV7R1 modem.
Huawei D2 of the Mobile edition (D2-0082) supports UMTS 850/900/2100 MHz
frequency/GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, and a single card, and uses K3 V2
AP+BalongV7R1 modem.

2.4 Home Screen


After I start third-party software, a black line occurs at the bottom of the screen. How can I
solve the problem?
When you click after starting third-party software, a black line may occur at the
bottom of the screen. To solve this problem, hide the navigation bar, and then open the
third-party software. The software is displayed properly.
2.4.1 How Do I Add or Delete a Screen?
1. Touch and hold on any blank area on a screen. On the option menu that is displayed,
touch Thumbnails.

2. Touch the plus sign (+) to add a screen. A maximum of nine screens are supported.

3. To delete a screen, touch the cross (x) in the upper right corner of a blank screen.

Three default groups have been created for grouping contacts stored in the phone memory.
You can hold on an existing group to rename it, or create another group. Then, you can touch
the plus sign (+) to add contacts to a group.

Forwarding a text message:
Hold on the text message to be forwarded, and touch the forward button on the displayed
option menu.
Sending a text message to multiple recipients:
In the To text box, enter multiple phone numbers, edit the text message and touch Send.
Alternatively, you can touch and add multiple contacts stored in the phone
memory or SIM card.
Saving a text message as a draft:
Enter the text message and the recipient's phone number, and touch or
. The text message is automatically saved as a draft. A text message can be
saved as a draft only when the recipient is specified.
You can send a short message to a maximum of 100 recipients.
2.6.4 How Do I Set the Message Ringtone and Vibration?
To set the message ringtone, touch Settings > Sound > Notification tone > Message.

To set the message vibration, touch Settings > Sound, touch Vibrate to set vibration for
incoming messages, and touch Vibration intensity to set the vibration intensity.
2.6.5 How Many English Characters and Chinese Characters Are
Allowed in a Long Text Message?
A text message can contain a maximum of 160 English characters or 70 Chinese characters.
A long text message can contain a maximum of 10 text messages. If the message content is
longer than 10 text messages, the message will be automatically converted to a multimedia
message.
The preceding description is true only for China Unicom and Chinese markets. The number of
Chinese and English characters that can be contained in a long text message may vary
according to market requirements.
2.6.6 How Many Text Messages Can Be Saved on My Phone?
It depends on your phone's storage capacity. To check your phone's storage capacity, touch
Settings > Storage > Internal storage.


By default, a maximum of 500 text messages can be stored on a phone. The maximum
number of text messages can be changed as required.

The keystroke sound is related to the input method and touch sound. In the input method
menu, you can disable the keystroke sound. To disable the touch sound, touch Settings >

2.7.1 How Do I Send a Multimedia Message?
When creating a text message, touch to add a subject, or touch to add an
attachment. Then the text message is changed to a multimedia message.
2.7.2 Why Does My Phone Fail to Send or Receive Multimedia
Messages? How Can I Solve the Problem?
1. Multimedia messages cannot be received if you do not have sufficient storage available
on your phone. To solve this problem, delete unnecessary files to free up some space.
2. Multimedia messages cannot be sent or received if the data service is disabled. To solve
this problem, touch Settings > Mobile networks, and select Data enabled.

2.7.3 Is There Any Restriction on the File Size, Video Format, or
Resolution When I Send a Multimedia Message?
1. If the size of a video or an audio file exceeds the specified size (generally 300 KB), the
file cannot be added as an attachment.
2. If a picture is too large, the system automatically decreases the picture resolution and
adds it to the multimedia message. The recipient receives a low resolution picture.
3. Video files in 3GP and AVI formats are supported. When recording a video file for
sending a multimedia message, the video resolution is decreased to prolong the video
duration.
2.8 Music
2.8.1 Can My Phone Record Ongoing Calls? Does It Support
Common Recording? Where Are Recording Files Saved?
Your phone can record ongoing calls. To record an ongoing call, touch and Record in
the displayed option menu. You can also use the recorder on your phone for common
recording.
Common recording files are saved in Recordings on the phone memory, and recording files
of ongoing calls are saved in record.

playlist once or repeat playing the playlist.
2.8.3 How Do I Create a Playlist?
1. Open the music player, touch and hold on the audio file you want to add to a playlist.
2. Touch Add to playlist > New, name the playlist, and touch Save.

the phone. After your phone recognizes the USB flash drive, you can see the USB drive
icon in the file manager. Then you can import or export files.

Flash Drive to My Phone? How Do I Export Images or Videos to a
PC or USB Flash Drive?
Connect your phone to a PC, select PTP to transfer images or videos. Connect your phone to a
USB flash drive using the OTG cable delivered with the phone to transfer images or videos.
2.9.2 My Phone Cannot Open Some Photos or Videos. Why?
The source streaming media is of poor quality.
Network connection is unstable when an online streaming media is being played.
The phone's hardware may be faulty. For example, the display is damaged. To check this,

2.9.3 Where Are My Photos and Video Clips Saved? Can I Change

1. By default, photos and video clips are saved to the phone memory.
2. Changing the file saving location:
Huawei D2 does not support microSD cards. Therefore, you cannot change the location

No.
2.11.5 Can I Make Calls or Listen to Music Using a Bluetooth
Headset?
Yes. Turn on the Bluetooth headset, and set it to discoverable. Turn on Bluetooth on your
phone, and search for the headset. After the headset is found, pair your phone with the headset.
You can then use the headset to make calls or listen to music.

To listen to music, you must use a stereo Bluetooth headset.
2.11.6 What Is the Bluetooth Working Range?
The working range is approximately 10 meters.
2.11.7 My Phone Fails to Pair with Other Bluetooth Devices. Why?
The phone cannot find other Bluetooth devices.
To solve the problem, check that Bluetooth on other devices is turned on and the devices
are set to discoverable.
The phone cannot detect a Bluetooth headset.
To solve the problem, check that the headset is set to discoverable. For details about how

The phone cannot connect to other phones when sending files.

Yes. The phone uses American Global Positioning System (GPS) and Russian Glonoss
technology, ensuring accurate positioning.
2.13.2 How Can I Locate My Position or Use the Navigation
Function Quickly?
Wireless network location can locate your position quickly. To enable wireless network
location, touch Settings > Location access, and select Wi-Fi & mobile network location.

2.13.3 The Navigation Application On My Phone Cannot Receive
Signals From GPS Satellites. How Can I Solve the Problem?
Take your phone to an area with better signal strength.
Check the Location access settings. If only GPS satellites is selected, this problem may
occur when you are in a built-up area. To solve this problem, take your phone to an open
area. You may have to try for several times before your phone receives signals from GPS
satellites.
2.13.4 When Used Indoor, My Phone Usually Fails to Locate My
Position. When It Finally Locates My Position, the Displayed
Position Is Far From the Actual Position. Why? Does My Phone
Support Voice Navigation?
1. This problem may occur because GPS signals received indoor are weak. If you attempt
to use GPS to locate your position, your mobile phone may not be able to receive signals
from GPS satellites.
2. The location accuracy is dependent on the accuracy of the GPS satellites and the map
used by your mobile phone.
3. You can use voice navigation if your navigation application supports this function.

3.1 How Can I Set Network Parameters?
1. Insert a SIM card into your phone. The phone automatically configures Access Point
Names (APNs).
2. To view the APNs, touch Settings > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.


3.2 How Do I Enable or Disable Data Services?
Touch Settings > Mobile networks. The Mobile network settings screen is displayed. To

3.3.1 How Do I Connect My Phone to a Wi-Fi Hotspot and Access
the Internet?
You can use your phone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot and share your phone's mobile data
connection with another device, allowing you to access the Internet from it.
Touch Settings > More... > Tethering & portable hotspot > Portal Wi-Fi hotspot settings,
and set parameters on the displayed screen.
After the device finds your phone using Wi-Fi, you can access the Internet from the device
using your phone's mobile data connection.

3.3.2 Does My Phone Support Wi-Fi? What Protocol Does It
Support?
Your phone supports Wi-Fi.
Your phone supports 802.11a/b/g/n.
3.3.3 My Phone Is Connected to a Wi-Fi Network but Cannot
Open Web Pages. Why?
Possible causes are as follows:
The Wi-Fi network is not connected to the Internet.
The digital subscriber line (DSL) connection failed.
A domain name service (DNS) problem occurred. In this case, web pages cannot be
opened, but you may still log in to QQ. Attempt to log in to QQ to verify that this may be
the problem.
The websites that the Wi-Fi hotspot can access are restricted.
Your phone is faulty.

Check that the wireless router's service set identifier (SSID) is not hidden.
Turn on your phone's Wi-Fi again.
Restart your phone.
3.3.5 How Can I Tell Whether My Phone Is Using Its Mobile Data
Connection or a Wi-Fi Connection to Access the Internet?
Once connected to a Wi-Fi network, your phone uses the Wi-Fi network to access the Internet.
The icon on the notification bar indicates that your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi
network.


3.3.6 I Cannot Connect to a Wi-Fi Hotspot. Why?
1. The network SSID and password have changed.

2. Touch Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings. On the Configure Wi-Fi hotspot screen, set
hotspot parameters such as the security mode and password and select Portable Wi-Fi
hotspot. Other phones supporting Wi-Fi can access the Internet using data connection of
your phone.
After a Wi-Fi hotspot is configured, a hotspot icon is displayed in the status bar.


3.3.8 Can I Access the Internet via Wi-Fi from a Device with a
Static IP Address?
When you attempt to associate your phone to an AP, the AP checks your phone's IP address. If
the static IP address of your phone is not on the default IP address segment assigned by the AP,
your phone fails to connect to the AP. You need to configure your phone's static IP address on
the IP address segment.

Huawei D2 can work with American standard-compliant 4-position 3.5 mm headsets.

Huawei D2 supports IP54-lelvel protection against water. If the phone gets wet, dry it and
leave it there for 24 hours.
Huawei D2 supports HDR Movie, stereo video recording, super handsfree, and Dolby sound
effect.
7.2 Common Software
If QQ and Sina Microblogging preinstalled on Huawei D2 are normal, you can use these
applications when you restore them to default settings. The latest common applications
installed on Huawei phones are tested before delivery. Third-party application upgrade may
case software failures.
7.3 QQ
Does my phone support QQ running in the background, QQ video chat, image sending, and

phone.

Consumption
1. Why my phone's temperature is high when I play games or watch videos?
It is common that smartphones consume high power, causing high temperature.
Huawei D2 supports 1920x1080 full HD and high hardware configurations such as
quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU, which brings good user experience but leading to high power
consumption. In some scenarios, especially in overlap scenarios such as you play videos
or games when the phone is being charged, the phone consumes higher power, and the
phone's temperature is high.
Huawei D2 has a temperature acceleration protection solution, preventing security risks.
Huawei D2 supports the fast charging mode in which the charger outputs larger current,
causing high consumption and high temperature. It is not recommended that you access
the Internet, play games, or watch videos when the phone is being charged.
2. Why do errors occur in game pictures? Why is my phone's performance low and why
does service interruption occur?
Huawei D2 supports 1920x1080 full HD. Some games are incompletely compatible with
the full HD, causing low performance and application interruption. To solve this problem,
upgrade the game version.

3. Why does my phone consume high power? Why is my phone's standby period shorted?
It is common that smartphones consume high power, causing high temperature.
Huawei D2 supports 1920x1080 full HD and quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU, which brings
good user experience but leading to high power consumption.
To solve this problem, perform the following operations:
Set the power saving mode to the intelligent mode in the Settings menu.
Decrease the screen brightness.
Disable seldom used software, preventing too much memory from being occupied
and saving power.
7.16 Data Backup, Restoration, and Upgrade Solutions for
Huawei D2
1. What are backup, restoration, and upgrade solutions for Huawei D2?
Use the phone's USB-OTG function to, back up, restore, and upgrade the phone using

function). The USB-OTG cable is different from a USB cable and is delivered with
Huawei D2, as shown in the following figure.

You can back up data to the phone memory by touching Back up to internal storage on
the Local tab page, or to a USB flash drive or a microSD card by touching Back up to
external USB storage on the USB storage tab page. The USB flash drive or microSD
card reader is connected to the phone using the USB-OTG cable.
Similarly, you can restore data from the internal storage space, a USB flash drive, or a
microSD card.
If you have another phone that can work as a USB flash drive, such as Huawei P1
and D1, you can perform the following operations to back up data on the phone and
restore the data on your D2:
1. Huawei P1 is used an example. Insert a microSD card in P1, touch Backup and select
Back up to Micro SD card to back up data and applications.
2. Connect P1 and D2 using the USB-OTG cable and USB cable, as shown in the
following figure.

Huawei phones can be upgraded using HOTA upgrade mirroring packages or upgrade
files on a microSD card. Huawei D2 does not support microSD cards. You can
upgrade D2 using the upgrade package, UPDATE.APP, on a USB flash drive or on the
phone memory. You can copy the upgrade package to the phone memory through MTP.
The upgrade does not clear user data.
Online HOTA system firmware upgrade is easy and efficient.
In Local update mode, back up the upgrade file UPDATE.APP to the phone
memory through MTP to restore the phone. Create a directory named dload in the root
directory on the phone memory, and save the UPDATE.APP file in dload.
In Update from USB storage mode, upgrade your phone after connecting it to an
external USB device through the USB-OTG cable. Create a directory named dload in the
root directory on the USB flash drive or a microSD card inserted into a microSD card
reader, and save the UPDATE.APP file in dload.


7.17 Why Does the Power Key Fail to be Awakened?
The Power key is a square key, and the switch is in the middle. The power key and switch
forms a lever structure, as shown in the following figure. If you press an edge of the Power
key, the switch cannot be triggered. You are advised to press the middle of the Power key.
