2 Notation On the attached staff paper, write out ALL the scales you will play this quarter for
scale exams. Be sure if you play two octaves you write two octaves. If you need
paper, ask. Most of the scales are in your books, simply copy them to your staff
paper. Neatness and accuracy are very important.

Compose a melody using one of the scales. Play the melody on your instrument to
see if it sounds good. Don't just write notes down. Be sure the rhythms are correct
and beats per measure are correct. Freshman only need to write 4-8 measures,
Sophomores 8-16, Juniors 16-24, and Seniors 24-32+. Neatness and accuracy are

3 Complete lessons 1 through 6 of 24 theory lessons on the MUSIC ACE program
on the band computer. This starts of VERY VERY easy, and progresses to a little
(but not very) more difficult music theory. Basically, it covers clefs, intervals, ear
training and some information on scales. This will help you immensely. When you
are finished, let me know and I will check your the program to make sure that you
