General ideas and whatnot.

Introduction
In your introduction, you should
Hook your reader with an explanation of your lens (the thesis of monster theory that youve
selected) and how it provides a more complete understanding of the monster text youve chosen
to analyse

Fully introduce both of your source materials
Contextualize your analysis by describing and BRIEFLY summarizing your primary text and
establishing how it lends itself to the lens and how your application of the lens may provide a more
complete understanding of the primary text
End your introduction with an argument that clearly establishes your claims about both the
thesis of monster theory youre using and specifically explains how your application of the lens may
provide a more complete understanding of the primary text and/or its place in our culture (this is
your thesis statement)
Forecast your essay by briefly stating how youll make each of your points. (This is a
sophisticated way to transition to the body of your paper.)

Body
This is where you will argue each of your individual thesis claims using PIE(t) to construct your body
paragraphs. Remember, each thesis claim should become the topic sentence of a body paragraph.
The rest of the paragraph then supports that claim with direct textual evidence followed by your
own analysis that carefully explains how that evidence supports the claim. You will have at least one
paragraph per thesis claim. Continue your introductory forecasting by arguing each thesis claim in
the order that you stated it in your introduction. In your body paragraphs, you should
Clearly and thoroughly explain your use of the lens to interpret the artifact and evaluate the
usefulness of that thesis of monster theory to provide a more complete understanding of the artifact
and/or its place in culture
Closely read specific passages of the source text through the lens of monster theory
Provide your readers with a detailed explanation of exactly how your textual evidence
supports each of your claims.

Conclusion
In your conclusion, you need to
Restate your thesis in a new way (In this analysis I considered).
BE BRIEF. Remember you just went through all of this in the body of your paper. Your reader doesnt
need a rehash just a reminder.
Reflect a bit on what you have found. Contextualize your analysis by explaining how the lens
you chose for this essay provides additional insight into the artifact (This cultural artifact is best
understood through this thesis of monster theory because...).
Your conclusion should explain to your readers why your argument is valid and worthy of
attention. What insight does your analysis of this issue provide for your readers? Why should your
readers care about this? Remember that the purpose of your analysis, like all literary analysis, is to
help your readers notice and understand something about the text
