CONNECTED: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY ABOUT LOVE, DEATH, AND TECHNOLOGY
1. What is interdependence?
Based on Tiffany Shlains movie entitled Connected, interdependence may be defined as
the connection that we have with everything around us. Many examples of
interdependence were given throughout the movie and the writer of the film noticed that in
everything there is a connection, one way or another. Global interdependence is the most
commonly used example because it shows how all forms of living and non-living things have
an impact on everything they do. Every action done by one form will lead to a chain-reaction
that will affect others in the interdependent system. Interdependence is also evident in the
human race because people are social being, people have made many ways to connect
with one another.
2. What scene/moment in the film resonates with you the most on the topic of
interdependence? Why?
The scene in the movie that resonated with me the most is found towards the end of the
movie. It was very obvious to the throughout the movie that we are interdependent being
and live in a planet whose parts function interdependently as well. The movie mentioned
that the reality is that everything will continue to connect with one another we will
inevitable continue to grow interdependently with one other. I was thinking so what? Her
answer caught my interest because the growing interdependence must help also people
grow. It must be able to help people see the cause and effect about the actions people do.
Interdependence will help change of the world only if we are conscious about it.
3. Based on the film, give a sample of positive interdependence. Explain.
One of the positive effects of interdependence led to the advent of new technology that
will lead us to easily communicate with one another. Because of the desire of people to be
interconnected with one another, this lead to the discovery of technologies such the cellular
phones, telephones and internet. The discovery of the internet changes everything about
communication in our day an age.
4. Based on the film, give a sample of negative interdependence. Explain.
One of the negative effects of the growing interdependence and connection is the
growth of consumerism. Production became the focus and it had to be very efficient.
Because of the worlds growing connection, work could be done in different places where
production was lowest. Some countries grew but some was this as colonialism. Many
problems today are because of the desire of humans for efficiency and growth. The reality is
that people are multiplying but resources are not.
