The remarkable solubilizing properties of
TEGOSOFT

G 20 have been proven by an

investigation to determine the solubility of up to 1 %
Ceramide III in cosmetic oils. Since ceramides are
high melting lipids, there is a need to prevent them
from re-crystallizing.
Ceramide III was chosen as a model, because
it is one of the least soluble and highest melting
ceramides and thus has a high tendency for re-
crystallization.
Fig. 1 shows the results of the solubility tests with
1 % Ceramide III in different cosmetic oils.

With the exception of hydrocarbons such as Mineral
Oil, clear solutions of 1 % Ceramide III can be
obtained at 90 C in most cosmetic oils. The oils can
be differentiated by the temperature of re-
crystallization on cooling and the amount of crystals
observed after storage for one day at room
temperature.
