THESIS ABSTRACT
The study sought todetermine the extent of practice in
providing therapeuticcommunication in patient care at Cadiz
District Hospital.Descriptive method of research was used in
this study. The researchers used a self-made questionnaire as
data gathering instrument. The respondents were 49 inpatients
admitted at Cadiz District Hospital. Results showed thatwhen
taken as a whole, the extent of practice of therapeutic
communication in patients care is always, while when grouped
according to age is always, educational attainment and gender is
often, and monthly income is also always.

Finally,there is no significant difference between the
extent of practice of therapeutic communication in patients
care as a whole and when grouped according to age, educational
attainment, gender, and monthly income. From the results of the
study, the following recommendations were set forth: 1. Staff
nurses should learn how to incorporate the therapeutic way of
communication in various clientele to their everyday task 2.
Staff should enhance their awareness regarding their
responsibilities and patients right while giving care to the
patient 3. Staff nurses should collaborate with each other so as
for them to provide the quality care for their clients and
promote therapeutic nurse-patient relationship 4.The clinical
instructors, student nurses and staff nurses should enhance
their understanding of therapeutic communication during patient
care and continue to evaluate its effects 5. Nursing students
together with the guidance and support of their mentors should
apply therapeutic communication in all aspects of patient care
6. Therapeutic communication must be incorporated in the School
of Nursings curricula in the future.
