THOUGHTS FROM BRAD
I want to thank everyone who came to the
annual Sunday school picnic. It was a great
time of fellowship and I must say the picnic
food and desserts were delectable. I also want
to thank Dave for sharing our devotional
thought.
I sure appreciate Dave preaching for me today
while my family enjoys a few days of vacation
before the Summer ends.
A paraphrase of 1 Cor. 3:10-15 says, "Take
particular care in picking out your building
materials. Eventually there is going to be an
inspection. If you use cheap or inferior
materials, you'll be found out. The inspection
will be thorough and rigorous. You won't get
by with a thing. If your work passes
inspection, fine; if it doesn't your part of the
building will be torn out and started over. But
you wont be torn out; you'll survive-but just
barely."
One day, we will stand before God, and He
will look at the materials we used. Some of us
will pass. Others will hear Him say, in effect,
"You are in. I love you. But you didn't really
pass inspection. You could have done more."
Two questions...
1. What do you think about that?

2. Will you pass the inspection?

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

KEENAGERS TRIP IN AUGUST: On
Wednesday, August 27, we will be traveling
to Amish Country to view David Warthers
Carvings. David is a fifth generation carver
and the grandson of the gentleman who
carved all the astounding trains which are
shown at the museum in New Philadelphia.
Davids carvings feature the history of
ships in ivory and ebony wood. There will
be time for visiting the antique shop, at
Dutch Valley before having our lunch there
at 11:45 am. Lunch will, of course, be on
your own. You may order from the menu or
take advantage of the buffet. Our tour of the
carving museum is at 1:30pm. Hopefully,
there will be time to visit one of our favorite
cheese shops afterward. A sign-up sheet is
now posted. Our time of departure is
8:30am. (Return time is uncertain.) The
cost for travel and admission is just $15 per
person.

ZANESVI LLE SENIOR EVENT: On
September 9, the North Terrace Church of
Christ will be hosting their annual New
Horizons retreat. This is a single day event.
Our hosts provide a continental breakfast,
lunch and a great program. If you register
by August 12, the fee is just $20 per person.
A sign-up sheet and registration forms may
be found on our main bulletin board.
Complete a form and pass it, along to me,
with your registration fee, for mailing. (I
have forwarded 6 registrations, already.)

EVENI NG WORSHIP: I will be filling in
for Brad this evening (8/10) and my theme
will be Strength Outside Ourselves (II
Corinthians 12:1-10).

MI DWEEK BI BLE STUDI ES: Our two
study groups will resume on September 10.
Watch for details.

FI NAL THOUGHT: Just because its a
well-beaten road is no sign it is the right
one.

during the first few days before and
after the start of classes. If you would
like to bake cookies, please put 3-4
average-sized cookies in a zip lock bag

"A shroud of secrecy cloaks a new nineteenth-century sect known simply as
"the Saints." But that veil is about to be drawn away. Amidst the majestic
beauty of 1857 Utah, the members of one secluded religious group claim to
want nothing more than to practice their beliefs without persecution. Yet
among them are many who engage in secret vows and brutal acts of
atonement, all in the name of God.

But one young woman, Hannah McClary, dares to question the truth behind
the shroud. Soon Hannah and the young man she loves, Lucas Knight, who
has been trained from childhood to kill on behalf of the Church, find
themselves fighting for their very lives.

As a group of unwary pioneer families march into Utah toward a tragic
confrontation with the Saints at a place called Mountain Meadows, Hannah
and Lucas are thrust into the most difficult conflict of all--a battle for truth and
justice, even as they are learning for the first time about unconditional love,
acceptance, and forgiveness."

Core Values...

Values central to the life, mission and
vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our
music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-
based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our
authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance
Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony &
live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity
of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism,
proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-
Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry
After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to
find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to
serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His
church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of
Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks
a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other
words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change
your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical
marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah
56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).

OUR PURPOSE

WE EXIST TO

Exalt Gods Greatness;
Evangelize Gods Work
Equip Gods People
Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ

OUR MISSION
To Love God and Love
People!
How Can I Respond Today?
At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all
issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear
concerning what a person must do to become a
Christian.
Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation.
Turn (repent) from the sin in your life.
Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord
of your life.
Be baptized (immersed) in water for the
forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy
Spirit into your life.
To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you
come forward during our commitment song at the
conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers
are welcome to become members at FACC by coming
forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior
Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you
complete a series of Curious classes to help you
better understand what you are committing to as a
member. If you would like to take a Curious class,
please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.
