She has worked in Coronary Care, Surgical/Trauma ICU, Cardiovascular ICU and the Emergency Department. She received her BSN and MS (Trauma & Critical Care Nursing) from the University of Maryland. From 1992-2004 she worked at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. as a clinical nurse specialist and nurse manager for the cardiac surgery ICU and as an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing & Health Studies.
Carol currently works as a critical care educator and consultant and works clinical hours in the SICU at the Washington Hospi- tal Center, an 800-bed Level 1 trauma center. She has published widely in the nursing literature, including seven book chapters in major critical care nursing texts and multiple journal articles. She currently serves on the editorial board of Critical Care Clinics of North America and as a contribut- ing editor for Critical Care Nurse. Carol is an experienced lecturer and nurse educator, having spoken at the AACN National Teach- ing Institute (NTI) more than 15 years. She served as president of the Greater Washington D.C. chapter of AACN and as chairperson for the 1998 NTI and 2004 Advanced Practice Work Group. PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
The objective of this 2-day class is to review common acute and critical care problems and diseases and to expand critical care nurses knowledge base as to the pathophysiology, assessment, and treatment of these problems. This conference aims to prepare high acu- ity and critical care nurses to take and successfully pass the CCRN/PCCN Certification Exam.
