The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from
Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating
food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and
all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing,
holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the market-
place they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other trad-
itions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a]) 5 So the Phari-
sees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, Why dont your disciples live acc-
ording to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled
hands?6 He replied, Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypo-
crites; as it is written:These people honor me with their lips,but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in
vain; their teachings are merely human rules.[b] 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to
human traditions. 9 And he continued, You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to
observe[c] your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, Honor your father and mother,[d] and, Anyone who curses their
father or mother is to be put to death.[e] 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used
to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God) 12 then you no longer let them do anything for
their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you
do many things like that.

changing our curriculum to give more importance to spoken

Shuttle Tournament
Syro Malabar Cultural Academy is organizing a Shuttle
tournament. The event will be on Saturday, Aug 23rd
@ 9:00 AM. The games will be in doubles format. Please

There will be a music concert in the evening to

AUGUST PRAYER MEETINGS
Tis year's Indian Independence day parade will be held on Saturday,
16th August at Devon avenue. Our church will be leading the parade
under the name of our diocese. Te parade will on Devon ave. from
Western Ave.to California Ave. We will be meeting at St. Tomithy
Church at 10:30 AM on Saturday morning. We welcome all of you to
participate in this event to show our unity, culture and tradition.

for sponsors for the event.

The Episcopal Ordination of Mar Joy Alappat will be held on
Saturday September 27th here at the Cathedral Church at 9.00
am. All are invited to this program.
A sign up sheet has been displayed at the back of the church.
You can sign it if you would like to join as a Volunteer. Please pray for the
success of this event.
Bishop Elect Mar Joy Alappat will leave to India on Wednesday 13th of August
for attending the Syro Malabar Synod that is taking place at Kakkanad, Kerala
from 18th through 30th. Bishop will come back on September 5th only.
Those people who have made appointment with Bishop Elect for church
services in those days please meet him personally and make necessary re-
scheduling of your programs in his absence.
Marriage preparation classes will be held on 26 through 28 September 2014
Blessed Chavara and Euphrasia will be elevated as Saints in Vatican on
November 23 rd 2014. A pilgrimage has been arranged in the Banner of Syro
Malabar Diocese Chicago. The pilgrimage will go from Chicago on November
16th and return on 25th November. Those who would like to join please register
your name with deposit amount. The total price for this trip will be $2400.
The registration for CCD, Malayalam Classes and Cultural Academy has been started.
On 31st August, after Holy Masses at 8.00 am and 9.30 am, there will be
opportunity for Ezhuthiniruth for the children.
We are planning to join the Indian Independence day parade at Devon on August 16th. You
can be part of this parade
September 6th we will celebrate the Feast of Blessed Virgin Mary at the
Grotto. In preparation of this Ettu Nayambu feast we observe eight days of
fasting and prayer starting on August 30th through September 6th Saturday. There will be
Rosary Procession to the Grotto immediately after morning Mass everyday.
A retreat will take place for youth and children by Fr Augustin Valluran V C in Bishops lane
retreat center on August 11-14. You can register for this retreat on line power14.com
Diocesan Youth Apostolate is hosting Midwest conference at Bishop Lane retreat Center on
August 15 through 17. Please register your name.
Archbishop Mar Joseph Chennoth Apostolic Nuncio of Japan will visit our Cathedral Church
and say Holy Mass at 8.00 am on August 24th Sunday.
All members of SMCC Chapter is expected to meet today after 8.00 am Mass
Permission has been granted the Cathedral prayer group to conduct prayer sessions on every
first Thursday 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm in the Adoration Chapel and a prayer seminar with holy Mass
on every second Saturday in the Daily Mass Chapel. Welcome to new members.
Ecumenical Council of Kerala Churches conducts 4th Volley Ball Tournament on August 10th at
