Autonomous Robot

for Teaching and Research

As an autonomous ground vehicle, the Qbot
is suitable for teaching or research in a
variety of applications from search and
rescue to resource surveying. It can even be
used for investigating climate change by
monitoring leave-out patterns in forests. This
easy-use robot allows the humans designing
the applications to serve more as coaches or
managers rather than operators.
UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES:
For teaching purposes, the Qbot solution
consists of a vehicle system and
comprehensive curriculum. It is ideal for
undergraduate or graduate labs and projects.
With a series of pre-assembled experiments
as well as rapid and clean control prototyping,
the robotic platform can be used for engaging
and informative experiments as diverse as
motion planning, path tracking, obstacle
avoidance, mapping, vision processing, visual
servoing and mobile robotic control
architecture. The same principles are used in
real-life applications for autonomous robots
deployed in high-risk environments. This
makes the Quanser experiments more
relevant to the real world to captivate and
motivate more engineering students.
RESEARCH AND GRADUATE
STUDIES:
For researchers the robotic test bed is a
perfect system for the development and
evaluation of a variety of research topics.
This includes autonomous vehicle research,
machine and artificial vision, evolutionary
computing and high level control architecture
of mobile robot. This system allows full
Simulink
TM
control algorithms to be compiled
and downloaded to the Gumstix

processor -
offering incredible flexibility.

of bombs and mines.
QBOT
A
n autonomous robot is capable of moving around and sensing its environment. At the same
time it makes intelligent decisions while executing tasks or communicating with other
robots. The Qbot* is a low-cost robotic platform with all of the capabilities of an autonomous
robot. It is equipped with built-in sensors, vision system and a supervisory control structure.
"The Quanser Qbot is quite exciting from
a teaching perspective. It will allow one of
the most prevalent and popular mobile robots
on the market today to be controlled
from Simulink
TM
, the industry-standard control
software. It's a winning combination that
should provide a great teaching vessel
for mobile robotics."
