Closes All LanesPanthers on the Loose!

8/10/2014
-JENKINTOWN, PA-
The Panthers, an under .500 team have caught
lightning in the bottle as their stellar play has landed
them in the limelight. Their formidable opponent,
EZ Pass, this years first place team is on a mission as
they came up short last season in the big game.
EZ Pass had two losses during the season, their last
one at the hands of the Panthers.

Its hot inside the sold out AFS Hallowell Field House.
The game starts out at a very fast pace, the passes by
both teams are plentiful, the defenses are the in your
face kind with the Panthers playing zone while
EZ Pass goes man-to-man. Sounds like the making of
a great game, only one thing is missingscoring!
Free throws by David Wong and Steve Brecher along with the first basket of the game, an elbow
jumper by Ben Dobkin at the 13:57 mark give EZ Pass a 6-0 lead. The Panthers Steve Tolliver
breaks through with two 3s, Zeke Rotter scores inside and Michael Goldberg finds the cylinder,
offset by a David Zemel put back for the Toll Collectors as the Cats take a 10-8 lead with 5:25 to go
in the halfexhausting! There is good ball movement on both sides but the main story of the first
half is turnovers caused by charged up defenses and bench strength.
We find Panthers Jason Quint and
Steve Tolliver can hoops from
downtown along with put backs by
Zeke Rotter and Travis OConnor,
equaled by two treys by David Wong
and two free throws from Devin
Bluestein to give EZ Pass a 19-17
short-lived lead. The smallest player on
the court but big in heart, Evan Segal,
answers the call with a long range
three from the top of the key and
Jason Quint cans a hoop cutting down
the lane on an inbounds play to give
the Panthers a 22-19 lead at the half.

After a somewhat sloppy first half by both teams the Panthers came out of their lair ready to go for
the kill. Big man Travis OConnor rebounds a miss for a bucket and never say die
Harry Rosenberg makes an incredible drive across the lane from right to left and then gets an
inside hoop on a nice feed from Steve Tolliver to give the Panthers their biggest lead 28-19 with
17:03 to play.
Not wanting to let the game get out of hand, EZ Pass turns it up a
notch and deposits some of their own change into the basket.
Devin Bluestein drives hard to the hoop for 2, David Wong cans a
3 in rhythm, but now its Brecher time! Steve Brecher feels it now
making two foul shots, and get this, three 3s in a span of 4.5
minutes. Sure we all saw Yale Walden hit an 18 ft. banker and
Brandon Caine fight hard for two inside, but with 8:31 to play the
Toll Takers were back on top 38-31. At this time, its important to
recognize the outstanding hustle displayed by the Panthers
Brandon Caine as he dove into the stands to save a ball, stole the
ball and made a great pass to
Travis OConnor for a bucket, and
then got up and blocked big man
Ben Dobkins shotwow, what a
head turner! However, EZ Pass
does not let up and incorporates a
toll increase as Devin Bluestein fights hard to deposit a put back
on a reverse layup and then puts the pedal to the metal and blows
by everybody as he drives to the bucket for two. With 2:22 to play,
EZ Pass closes all the lanes to the hoop and goes into a four
corner stall. As they eat up the precious seconds on the clock
they maintain their lead as Steve Brecher scores on a fast break
and Josh Hirsch cans two from the charity stripe. The Panthers
did not lay down and die as Steve Tolliver hit a desperation 3
and Evan Segal cans a wild hook shot put back, but it was to no
avail as EZ Pass motored to their first championship with a
49-40 victory.
Co-MVP honors go to Steve Brecher, 14 pts. and David Wong, 17 pts., a dynamic duo to the end.
Steve Tolliver had 11 pts. and Travis OConnor had 6 pts. for the Panthers. Thanks for making this
the great league it is!
