Guest Lectures Guest lectures were organized by the School of Basic Sciences details of which are as follows 1. A guest lecture was organized by Dr. M.G.Gorla, Professor, Department of Mathematics, HPU, on 22 nd March 2013 who made the students aware about the Importance of Mathematics in engineering. Students highly appreciated the knowledge shared by Dr. Gorla. 2. A guest lecture was organized by Dr. Mahavir Singh Chauhan, Professor, Department of Physics, HPU, on 9 th May 2013, who apprise the students about Nano Technology. The response of the students was overwhelming.
Industrial Visits/Educational Tours 1. School of Basic Sciences organized an industrial visit to Nathpa Jhakri power plant on 6th April, 2013. A group of 25 students from B.Tech. II year students of Electronics and Communication engineering along with five faculty members visited the plant. The plant visit has motivated the students to pursue their goal in this sector. 2. School of Basic Sciences organized an educational trip to Science City, Kapurthala on 4th May, 2013. A group of 200 students of B.Tech. 1st year along with 10 faculty members visited the place. This was an excellent place for students to experience the process of science.
Activities Organized Apart from Academics, activities were designed for the students of all branches by the School of Basic Sciences. 1. The very first activity of the session was organized and conducted by the Department of Communication Skills. It was an Extempore Competition which was held on 13 September, 2012. In this event many students from I Year, II Year and III Year participated. Though the performance of the participants was worth- praising, yet we had to select only three winners out of the total. Tanya of ECE II Year, Dikshit of CSE II Year and Chirag of ECE II Year stole the show with their excellent oratory skills.
2. Department of Physics in collaboration with other departments of basic sciences organized a Caption and Poster making contest on 7 th May, 2013. The topics of the event were given on the spot. There were 45 participants in the event and it was a huge success. The list of the winners is as follows Poster Making: Supriya Sharma(ECE 1 st Year ) stood first. Sachin Kashyap (ME 1 st Year ) stood second. Jai Kumar Rana(CE 1 st Year) stood third. Caption Writing: Anshul Parihar(ECE 1 st Year ) stood first Akshay Sharma(CE 1 st year) stood second Akhilesh (CE 1 st Year) stood third.
3. Department of Communication Skills organized an event named Renaissance. This event included a role play and a declamation contest. The participants were from MBA (I Year) and BBA (I year and II year) and B.Tech. Students. The winners of declamation contest are as follows: Anshu(ECE 1 st Year ) stood first. Sonika (ECE 1 st Year ) stood second. Tanya(ECE 2 nd Year) stood third.
