Old is not a dirty word

by Clydene Overbey
In just a few days I will
have reached a major landmark
in my life. Twenty years ago I
would have been depressed
thinking I was getting old. Old
was a bad word and I wasnt
about to admit that I was entering into that terrible era.
Dont you dare call me old,
Im not old for a long time.
That is what Im bravely presenting to the world, but in my
mind I know the truth. Im
getting Old, and that is none
of your business.
Im proud and who
wouldnt be. Here I stand before you, old and proud. I am

happy with what I have accomplished and with things I

have seen in my 70 years. Just
think of the things Ive seen
that you will never even know
about or understand. I feel
blessed to have survived for
so long and be not much
worse for the wear. Im still on
my feet, if a bit less, I can see,
I can hear, I can feel, etc. Ive
lived through some hard
times, but I like to believe that
good times have prevailed.
Like the seasons, we all
have our time. We need to
make the best of it. There are
things that are important and
things that are not and sometimes it is not easy for us to

NOTICE OF PUBLIC SALE

Notice is hereby given that in accordance with Act 626 of 1983, as amended,
the Commissioner of State Lands will hold a public auction to dispose of the tax
delinquent lands which are listed below, all located in Franklin County, Arkansas.
The auction will be held at the Franklin County Courthouse located at 211 W.
Commercial in Ozark, Arkansas, at 10:00 a.m. on September 10, 2014. Bidder registration will commence at 9:30 a.m.
The land will be sold to the highest bidder, provided that such bid is equal to
at least the total amount of taxes, penalty, interest, and costs due as certified to the
Commissioner of State Lands. The full purchase price must be paid immediately
following the sale, with the first $100.00 of each parcel paid in cash, cashiers
check or money order. The balance may be paid by personal or corporate check. The
owner of record may redeem the property during a 10 business day period following the date of the sale. If the property is not redeemed during that 10 day period,
the purchaser will receive a Limited Warranty Deed for the property from the Commissioner of State Lands. The title conveyed by the Commissioner of State Lands
is not clear title nor a fully warranted title. The Commissioner of State Lands does
not guarantee or warrant clear or merchantable title to the property sold. The original owner, assigns, or heirs have a ninety (90) day period during which the validity of the sale may be contested in court.
The Commissioner of State Lands strongly suggests that potential bidders
perform their own research on the property listed below to determine its suitability
for their uses, the status of the title, the existence of liens, and other tax assessments
that may be due, but not collected by the Commissioner of State Lands. The sale of
the land does not extinguish any lien for delinquent improvement district assessments or relieve the purchaser of liability for delinquent improvement district assessments.
Copies of the complete rules and regulations for the sale of tax delinquent
lands are available from the Commissioner of State Lands Office, Room 109, State
Capitol, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201 or www.cosl.org.

tell the difference. If you dont

believe that, look around you.
Observe the world you live in
and look at what the priorities
seem to be. It seems everyone
wants to be young and rich
as long as they can, even
when they are old. Mothers
want to imitate their teen
daughters and relive their
youth through them. Most
people do not want to go gently into old age.
To be young is to be envied in our world. But youth,
like summer, fades into the
autumn of middle-age and
then the autumn fades into the
winter of old age. To keep
wishing for youth is as futile
as wishing for summer on a
bitter January day or wishing
for sun while walking in the
unrelenting October rain.
Its hard to live within ourselves. So many things try to
tug us one way or the other.
To know what is important
and what is not is not an easy
thing, no matter how easy it
sounds. When our season
turns to winter and we can no
longer remember what the
warm, summer sun felt like on
our skin, it seems to me we
would be better off to accept
the winter and enjoy it while
we can because like the October rain it will not be with us
very long.
All of us are in some season of life. Some of us are in
the springtime of life, and others are in the winter of life, and
the rest of us are somewhere
in between. But, in the end it
will not matter how much
money we made or what we
accomplished, the only thing
that will matter is how much
we were loved by God and

The Franklin County 4-H
clubs are reorganizing and
seeking new members. The
purpose of these clubs is to
give youth ages five-19 an
opportunity to participate in
the youth development educational program of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.
Youth in 4-H clubs will
learn life skills, enhance leadership skills, and increase
self-esteem while serving in a
number of community service
projects. Youth in 4-H clubs
have an opportunity to compete in a number of competitive activities, attend camps
and earn scholarships for
how much we love and live for
Him.
When our winter comes
and we rage against the dying of the light, the only way
we will ever see another spring
is in the memory of those who
loved us as we bring back the
memories of those who have
gone into their second spring
that will last through Eternity.
I pray everyone everywhere
will know Jesus way before
your winter.
Now also when I am old
and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have
shewed thy strength unto this
generation, and thy power to
everyone that is to come.

shalt rise up before the hoary
head, and honour the face of
the old man, and fear thy
God: I am the Lord.

Bits from Batson

I hope you all had a great

week!
We spent Monday morning trying to get Logan
Hardersons driver s test
taken and come to find out,
they dont take the birth certificate card. Everyone else
does and I thought it was as
legal as the paper, but because
it doesnt have his parents
names on it and after 911 they
only take the paper birth certificates. You can go online
and get one in about 10 days,
so guess we wont be testing
real soon. Just to let you know
so you wont be disappointed
if you dont have a paper birth
certificate because it does not
say anything about it in the
drivers manual.
School will be starting next
Monday. Guess we are all
about ready. Logan has gotten his supplies and some
clothes and Laryn and Lakyn
Robinson are getting their
classrooms all ready for the
year to start. Craig Harderson
and I spent last Saturday taking Laryn different places in
Fort Smith to finish her supply list.
Visitors last weekend at
Laryn and Lakyns were Nikki

Youngblood, Katrina Bradley,

Paige Gordon, Lauren Robinson, Logan and Craig
Harderson and me.
Craig, Logan and I also
visited with Violet Willis,
Donna Jarmon, Ramona and
J.D. Marlow at Violets last
Sunday.
Ronnie Sherrell ate dinner
with Carroll and Deb Sherrell
last Sunday afternoon.
Nikki Youngblood, Lauren,
Lakyn and Laryn Robinson
spent Sunday evening at
Laryns classroom where they
worked on her door and bulletin boards.
Lakyn and Lauren
Robinson, Logan Harderson,
Carroll and Deb Sherrell, and I
spent a couple days last weekend shopping at Bargains Galore on 64. We found several
good bargains.
The last storm that
brought so much rain washed
out the Swingin Bridge at
Catalpa. Apparently, they received about five inches of
rain over the span of a few
hours. We all hope it gets rebuilt soon.
Good luck to the kids next
Monday! Have a great week!

LET THE BIBLE SPEAK

by John Brasseaux

Baptism: An Essential Response For Salvation

Many Protestant denominations discredit the Biblical teaching that baptism is an essential response in
order for a person to be saved. Jesus said, Go ye into
all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he
that believeth not shall be damned (Mk. 16:15-16). An
unbiased study of this and other related New Testament Scriptures will prove that baptism is essential for
salvation. But I believe honest people are being given a
false hope being taught salvation by faith only. In something that matters most, it must not be the case.
An examination of the unbiased translations on a
key passage shows that baptism is essential for salvation. The passage is Acts 2:38. In verse thirty-seven,
believers in Jesus Christ as Lord, convicted of sin, ask
the divinely inspired Peter, Men and Brethren, what
shall we do? Heres Peters response to their question: Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Notice how
that the various translations all are consistent in tying
forgiveness with baptism. The purpose of baptism is
clear in each:
- for the remission of sins KJV
- unto the remission of sins ASV
- for the forgiveness of sins RSV
- for the forgiveness of sins NASV
- so that your sins may be forgiven NIV
- so that your sins will be forgiven TEV
- so that your sins may be forgiven NRSV
- for the forgiveness of your sins NWT
- for the forgiveness of your sins NCV
- that your sins may be forgiven NAB
- for the forgiveness of your sins NJB
Although some who may have served on translation
committees over the past three hundred years may not
have personally held the belief that baptism is essential for salvation, we can appreciate their honesty in
consistently and correctly translating this passage. May
those of us who have the awesome responsibility of
preaching and teaching Scripture be as honest. After
