Tubular Running Services

Leverage our tubular running expertise and innovative technologies to enhance the safety
and efficiency of your drilling operations.
Our tubular running services facilitate safe and efficient running of tubulars, minimizing
wellsite risk and reducing nonproductive time.
As the largest casing/tubing running company in the world, we offer an extensive selection of
advanced mechanized tubular running equipment.
We have developed many significant industry firsts, including:
Fully integrated control systems compatible with rig-drilling controls and zone-
management systems that enhance safety and critical-path efficiency
Modular rig mechanization systems that adapt to any rig environment, from land rigs
to fifth-generation submersibles for deepwater service
Universal remotely controlled system that makes modular rig equipment more
compatible, enhancing safety and efficiency
The Stabberless

system, which eliminates one of the most dangerous jobs on the

rig

Casing, Running and Drilling Systems
Weatherfords OverDrive casing running and drilling system comes from the world's
largest and most experienced provider of tubular running services. Our innovative experts
developed the OverDrive casing running and drilling system, which provides outstanding top-
drive casing makeup and drilling-with-casing (DwC) performance for unmatched
operational efficiency and safety.
The OverDrive system outperforms conventional tools by rotating and pushing down the
casing while running to help prevent differential stickingproviding greater security when
running casing or drilling with casing in high-angle, extended-reach and problematic wells.

Control Systems
The heart and brain of Weatherford's mechanized rig systems is the control system. Its
soft PLC environment, based on the industry standard Windows

NT

operating system,
runs on a high-performance industrial computer. Input from all sensors and actuators
processed in real time, produces movements that optimize time performance and partial
auto-sequencing. Weatherfords control systems are designed for stand-alone operation, but
can also interface with the rig's control system to prevent collision between the various
pieces of equipment used in the operational sequences, thus reducing the chance of human
error.
Integration and combination with other control systems are possible as well. With maturity of
design, our controlsystems offer instant troubleshooting and root-cause identification
minimizing maintenance time. Remote problem solving by Internet enables immediate
problem diagnosis and cost-effective modification and program adaptation

Hydraulic Power Units
Electric- or diesel-power units are available to provide a reliable power source for a wide
range of hydraulic requirements, including all onshore and offshore applications. Our power
units can be used to power everything from a single piece of equipment to a complete rig-
system solution.

Weatherfords power units are available in standard or custom-designed configurations and
are generally skid mounted. The units include provisions for DNV certifications for marine
handling.

Positioning Devices
As torque requirements increase, power tongs are being built stronger and heavier than
before. The larger mass of these tongs requires more manpower to maneuver. Alternatively,
the larger mass can be efficiently handled by one of Weatherfords powered manipulating
devices. Our positioning systems accelerate total makeup time by efficient tong
manipulation, saving rig time and enhancing safety. The simple design enables easy
transport and fast installation with only minor rig modifications. A single operator uses the
system to easilyand more safelymaneuver power tongs to-and-from the well center.
Safety, safety and more safety. Single-operator capability reduces risk exposure on the rig
floor and the extra controllability and maneuverability our positioning systems help avoid
accidents ensuring the precise placement of tongs.
Simple and fast installation. Weatherfords positioning systems can be installed quickly,
with only minor modifications to the rig for easy transport to the site and fast rig-up.
Low maintenance through simplicity. Simple, lightweight design enhances reliability
because our systems are powered by the tong power unit and do not absorb the weight of
the tongs, which are on a suspension line.
Offline service. Positioning systems can be easily disconnected from the rig so all service
work can be done away from the rig.

Power Tongs
Weatherford's hydraulic power tongs are engineered for the operational demands they will
encounter during use. Weatherford tongs set the industry standard by:
Improving crew productivity by simplifying operations
Enhance tubular investment with precise makeup and minimum marking
Ensure safety with integrated accident prevention systems
Hydraulic power tongs are available with Weatherford's Free-Floating Backups to
minimize pipe bending.
Drill Pipe Tongs are designed to allow for the quick and safe running or your drill pipe.
These tongs are available in sizes 3 1/8" to 7 1/4".
Casing Tong designs are available to deal with high-torque casing, lightweight casing, for
continuous output torque and the unique gated-rotary design. Size ranges available to meet
your casing needs.
Tubing Tongs have been designed for rugged use and reliable performance - even at the
higher torque required to break premium connections. Our two-speed, sealed planetary gear
transmission assures you dependability with minimal maintenance. These tongs handle
tubing sizes ranging from .66 to 7 5/8.

Bucking Units
Insufficient makeup of tubular goods can lead to time-consuming additional work and
expenses. Conventional systems for coupling applications lead to a number of problems,
such as slow handling that causes inaccuracies, 70 percent or more of the connections must
be rejected, the makeup is performed in several steps for stabbing and final torque,
insufficient makeup if the pipe is slightly bent, the threads are at extreme maximum or
minimum limits of the specified tolerances, deformation of the coupling due to excessive jaw
pressure, and insufficient data recording of the makeup operation.
Weatherfords custom-designed bucking systems address all of these challenges. These
CAM (Coupling Application Machine) systems set new standards for the oil and gas industry.
They can be used for makeup operation in pipe mills, threading facilities, repair shops and
workshops, pipe yards, completion applications, and operating (lieber: active/operational/in-
service) drilling rigs. The range of applications varies from semi-automated units for field
operations to completely automated systems that control every aspect of pipe and coupling
handling in a pipe mill.
